Slow Cooker Gammon In Coke. A delicious slow cooker recipe, slow cooker gammon with coke is a genius invention and tastes amazing. The perfect dump and start slow cooker gammon recipe for lazy days.
Slow Cooker Gammon In Coke
Slow Cooker Gammon In Coke is one of those slow cooker recipes that sounds wrong, but once you try it you will be 100% hooked.
It is up there with a lot of weird and quirky meals that you will have experienced. For me it is up there with the first time I tried duck a la orange, made turkey neck soup in the Instant Pot, or tried Air Fryer Jalapeno Poppers.
With the latter I was convinced that they would be so spicy I would need to see a doctor.
But I tried all 3 and fell hopelessly in love with them and I couldn’t imagine not using the neck from a whole turkey now.
When one of my readers suggested to me that I MUST TRY Slow Cooker Gammon In Coke, I was sceptical, but decided to give it ago and its now my new FAVOURITE way to enjoy slow cooker gammon.
Gammon In Slow Cooker Using Coke
If you are wondering why gammon in slow cooker using coke is a thing and why it is a good thing. Let me fill you in.
The coke is used as an alternative stock for the gammon. When you cook the gammon in the slow cooker you simply pour over the coke and then cook it in a similar way that you would normally cook slow cooker gammon.
There is nothing hard or complicated about gammon in the slow cooker using coke.
What you will be surprised about is the end result. The flavour of the gammon is wonderfully sweet.
A bit like when you make gammon with a honey in the slits, but with coke gammon there is less effort involved.
No slits are required into the slow cooker gammon and it’s what I would call a dump and start slow cooker recipe.
The method of gammon with coke is successful because when cooked the mix of coke with brown sugar creates a sugary syrup that is perfect for marinating gammon.
You could have your slow cooker gammon in coke during festive times such as Christmas or Easter or New Years Eve. Or just for when you want a quick family dinner.
I like it the best as a cheaper option for Christmas Dinner. Perfect for if you are watching the pennies and you want a cheaper alternative to roast turkey.
Slow Cooker Coke Gammon 1Kg
For my recipe today for slow cooker gammon in coke I am using a 1 kilo gammon. As many of you that read our blog regularly know, I am frugal and love to save money.
The gammons I am using were on clearance at Iceland during the last Christmas festive period.
They had the 2.5kg gammons in (very rare to see this size) and I chopped them up for what I needed.
Though Dominic wasn’t impressed, as he pointed out to me how much gammon shrinks and that he wasn’t hardly going to get any once it was chopped up!
I made some bigger ones and some smaller ones. The smaller ones are my 1 kilo gammons that I am cooking for you today in the slow cooker.
But you could use whatever size you wish, as it doesn’t alter the cooking time much to cook a bigger one.
Slow Cooker Gammon In Coke On Slimming World
Many of you landing on my slow cooker gammon in coke recipe will be wondering if it is Slimming World friendly. After all it is a favourite trend for Slimming World members.
Well Slimming World changed some of its Syns since the last book I had so I would recommend asking your consultant to convert it for you.
But what I will say before you do, is that you can swap coke for diet coke and brown sugar for stevia. Then all you need to worry about syn wise is how many syns in the honey.
Based on how much honey is in this recipe, if you were feeding 4 people it wouldn’t be a lot.
Slow Cooker Gammon In Coke – How Long?
To cook slow cooker gammon in coke it takes just 4 hours on high. Or if you wanted to cook your slow cooker gammon on low it would be 7 hours.
You can also leave it to rest once it has cooked and then make it ahead for a family gathering. Or like I did, put it straight into the air fryer to quickly crisp the honey glaze.
Slow Cooker Gammon In Coke + The Air Fryer
It always feels like it takes ages to finish the slow cooker gammon in coke in the oven, yet I can load the cooked gammon into the air fryer, and it takes just 5 minutes on high.
I will mix together my honey and mustard, trim off the fat and give it a quick air fryer blast. It tastes great and gives you that amazing glaze that we all go nuts for on our gammon.
