Why Air Fry Boneless Skinless Thighs?
I was chatting on the phone to my editor about the air fryer recipes we were going to be featuring in our complete air fryer cookbook. One that she just didn’t get my passion for is boneless skinless thighs.
I think she was even more shocked when I said I left Portugal and came back to England just so that I can air fry boneless skinless chicken thighs all the time.
I think by the end of the conversation she probably thought I was a bit nuts.
I am sure you are wondering why I couldn’t get the boneless and skinless thighs to air fry. Well I tried and I tried and even ordered them from the butchers. Well, the butchers were not qualified and tried to chop the bones out themselves and did an awful job. So awful that I was given a refund.
Of course, we could get bone in, skin on and that was the inspiration behind our honey garlic chicken thighs air fryer recipe.
I then craved going back to England just to cook my own boneless chicken thighs in the air fryer.
When we moved back in the summer of 2021 whilst staying at a holiday cottage on our return the air fryer boneless thighs was the second item we cooked after slow cooker corned beef hash.
In this boneless chicken thighs air fryer recipe we will be showing you our favourite air fryer method, with a simple seasoning, that you can rinse and repeat in your air fryer.
Can You Air Fry Skinless Boneless Chicken Thighs?
Yes, you can air fry skinless boneless chicken thighs and you will love them. Plus, because boneless chicken thighs are rather small you can do a good batch of them in your air fryer at once.
Why Air Fry Boneless Skinless Thighs So Nice?
I was first introduced to chicken thighs from an American having never heard of them until that point.
She mentioned that boneless skinless thighs are much nicer because of the fat in them and have a much better flavour than air frying chicken breast.
I tried them on a trip to the UK and thought they were amazing, both in the air fryer and instant pot boneless thighs too. Since then, I would always choose chicken thighs over breast.
But, because they are higher in fat than chicken breast, expect to have a fat build up at the bottom of your air fryer basket.
What To Do With Your Boneless Thighs?
When you cook boneless skinless chicken thighs in the air fryer, you can use them in the exact same way you would use chicken breasts.
You can shred the boneless thighs and make a yummy chicken sandwich with them. Or use them in our air fryer chicken pot pies, or how about making a delicious soup maker chicken soup.
Or you can have them as a high protein snack or what about making our air fryer chicken cobb salad.
What About Ninja Boneless Chicken Thighs
You can also use the Ninja Foodi air fryer function to follow this recipe, or any air fryer that you own. Just remember not all air fryers operate at the same rate so you might need to adjust the cook time and temperature to your air fryer.
Boneless Chicken Thigh Air Fryer Ingredients
Chicken – We used one pack of boneless skinless chicken thighs. There was 8 in our pack and you can do as many or as few as you want. Though note, only 8 would fit in our air fryer basket, so if doing more, we recommend doing them in batches.
Seasoning – For our air fryer boneless skinless thighs we seasoned them with cajun seasoning. It’s a brilliant all round seasoning and it then saves mixing lots of seasonings. You can also season with salt and pepper too.
Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this chicken thighs air fryer recipe it has been our Philips Air Fryer. We recommend this one and its wonderful for many types of air fryer recipes.
Plus, we recommend you head over to our air fryer recipes category as we have more than 500 tried and tested air fryer recipes and have been air frying for 10 years.
How To Air Fry Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs?
- Prep. Place the chicken thighs onto a plate or a clean chopping board and spray with olive oil and then sprinkle with salt and pepper and then cajun seasoning.
- Cook. Then place the boneless thighs into the air fryer basket and air fry for 25 minutes at 180c/360f.
And I am sure you can see now why people like boneless skinless chicken thighs so much.
Why Oil Boneless Thighs?
There is no skin on boneless chicken thighs so you are probably wondering why add the extra virgin olive oil.
Well, the oil stops the chicken thighs from drying out as they don’t have the skin for protection. Then secondly you have the oil that works like glue to the seasoning to make the seasoning stick to the thighs.
How Long To Air Fry Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs?
We recommend 25 minutes for boneless chicken thighs. They are not as big as chicken breasts and don’t have the bone to cook through.
But do check with a thermometer that your chicken thighs have reached an internal temperature of at least 70c/165f before serving.
More Air Fryer Chicken Thigh Seasoning Ideas
Cajun seasoning is my favourite option for your boneless thighs but there are so many others.
- Try our air fryer lemon chicken breasts seasoning and swap the cajun for lemon
- Try our Nandos peri peri chicken and give your chicken the wow factor
- Try our unbreaded chicken tenders flavour for something different
- Or keep it simple with just salt and pepper
