Frozen Corn On The Cob

I fell in love with frozen corn on the cob thanks to Iceland. We had moved to Portugal, and they opened a supermarket loaded with Iceland products and we just loved a bit of England in Portugal.

The prices were a lot higher than in England, but you don’t really care when you are missing your British food so much.

One area, that we would always bulk buy was the frozen fruit and veggies.

There was no decent alternative in the Portuguese supermarkets, and we would bulk buy the frozen broccoli, the frozen cauliflower, frozen fruit for smoothies as well as the frozen corn on the cob.

If you have read any of our frozen veggie recipes such as air fryer frozen broccoli, air fryer frozen cauliflower or air fryer frozen brussel sprouts, then note, these were all made with Iceland veggies.

But after making delicious frozen broccoli and cauliflower to go with salmon for lunch, our other true favourite was the frozen corn on the cob.

Which you might know as frozen corn cobbettes, or mini frozen corn on the cob. Usually, it comes in a pack of 8 or 9 and is perfect for cooking from frozen.

We will often serve air fryer frozen corn on the cob as a treat for the kids for dinner with a little butter.

But today, we wanted to share with you our experiment of using the same frozen corn on the cob and cooking it in a microwave instead. Would it cook faster? Would it taste as good? Would the kids like it?

Is Frozen Corn Cooked?

This depends…. The frozen corn on the cob that we buy it uncooked and can be cooked from frozen.

But regular bags of frozen corn are usually cooked, and you can just stir it into your food and makes a fantastic quick addition to a stew or casserole.

Best Way To Cook Frozen Corn On The Cob?

The best way for you to cook your frozen corn on the cob is in the microwave. We tested our favourite frozen corn on the cob (that we usually cook in the air fryer) and found that the cook time was nearly half of the air fryer and tasted so delicious too.

Add to this that you are retaining the flavour unlike boiling frozen corn on the cob that ruins the taste and nutrients.

Can You Microwave Frozen Corn On The Cob?

Yes, you can microwave frozen corn on the cob and best of all, it tastes AMAZING.

I have cooked regular microwave corn on the cob and decided to take the exact same method to the frozen variety and it worked perfectly.

How To Make Frozen Corn Taste Good?

The method for making corn on the cob taste good, is the same regardless of fresh or frozen corn.

Its all about the light seasoning and the butter and avoiding boiling the corn.

You can also mix and match the seasonings for what you are serving the corn on the cob with.

What To Do With Frozen Corn?

Frozen corn along with canned black beans and frozen peas, are my go to for filling up a stew or a casserole or even a soup. I will often have enough that wont quite fill us all up, so I will add in the frozen corn and other bits and pieces to make a full meal.

Or another thing I do when I want a quick frozen corn side is to make instant pot creamed corn.

Or if you have frozen corn on the cob, I recommend microwaving it and then serving it on the side with your other favourite Saturday night treats such as air fryer frozen chicken wings, ninja foodi pulled pork and of course air fryer potato wedges.

Corn – I recommend using 1 pack of frozen corn on the cob. You can do less if you prefer. But aim for corn that would fit in 1 large Ziploc bag and no more.

Water – To steam corn on the cob in the microwave you will need a tablespoon of water into the bottom of your Ziploc bag.

Seasoning – Then for seasoning your frozen corn I recommend you keep it simple with salt and pepper.

Optional – I love cooking frozen corn on the cob with a little butter or margarine. It gives corn on the cob the wow factor. You can also keep this low calorie by using a light margarine such as I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Light.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this frozen corn on the cob recipe it has just been our Panasonic Microwave Oven. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of microwave recipes.

Microwave Frozen Corn Tips & Tricks

  • Whilst I use a steamer basket for most veggies in the microwave, I find its much easier to use a Ziploc bag for corn.
  • Make sure your Ziploc bag is properly sealed and not full of air. Otherwise it will leak out during microwaving.
  • If you have leftovers, leave in the fridge, and reheat in the microwave the next day.

Top Microwave Trick – Many of us have a different microwave wattage. Start checking your frozen corn at the half way point and adjust the cook time as necessary.
