Air Fryer Frozen Brussel Sprouts
I was a frozen Brussel Sprouts virgin until the spring of 2019. I had never once bought frozen sprouts and cooked them in the air fryer and soon realised I was missing out on something special.
It all came about when I decided to do a big experiment in the cooking of frozen vegetables and led to me writing about instant pot frozen vegetables and instant pot frozen broccoli.
In all honesty, frozen vegetables cooked in kitchen gadgets blew my mind.
You could say that I was a bit of a snob when it came to frozen vegetables and always assumed that they were tasteless and why buy frozen when I can buy fresh????
But after trying out many vegetables last year in both the air fryer and the instant pot there was no going back.
Now when I buy fresh vegetables from the supermarket each week it is a lot more limited to what it once was.
I will buy fresh tomatoes, zucchini, mixed peppers, onions and most other vegetables will come from the frozen section.
My favourite frozen vegetables that I love to cook in the air fryer and the instant pot include:
- Frozen Broccoli
- Frozen Cauliflower
- Frozen Leeks
- Frozen Brussel Sprouts
- Frozen Corn
Today though, I want to share with just how easy it is to cook frozen brussel sprouts combining both the instant pot and the air fryer.
Or if you have one you could use a Mealthy Crisplid or an Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid.

Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts From Frozen
I am one of those veggie loving people that is OBSESSED with brussel sprouts. I would eat them all year round if possible.
But sadly, living in Portugal means this has never been an option. Fresh brussel sprouts is only available in limited supermarkets during Christmas.
Outside of Christmas unless you go to the British supermarket, you have no chance of getting any.
It would become a delicious Christmas treat that we would have.
Our family enjoying brussel sprouts (okay just me and Dominic as the kids don’t like them) means that frozen or nothing.
But the greatest thing about frozen brussel sprouts is, not only can you enjoy them out of season, but there is no prep.
You can steam the sprouts first in your instant pot and then toss in your favourite maple syrup glaze and load them into the air fryer until you have perfect crispy sprouts.
Why Sprouts In Air Fryer?

When you cook sprouts in air fryer, they taste much better than cooked in the skillet or baked in the oven.
It is like eating roasted sprouts that have been made extra crispy due to a lot of fats.
The only difference is that when you cook sprouts in air fryer, hardly any oil is used at all and they are very SIMPLE to prep.
Plus, you can mix and match your ingredients to make your favourite type of brussel sprouts.
At Christmas we always have air fryer brussel sprouts with bacon and you can make these, or opt for how we are having them today which is air fryer brussel sprouts with maple syrup.
Are Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts Healthy?
Yes they are. You can cook brussel sprouts just as they are and just toss them in salt and pepper.
They will taste much better compared to the old school method of boiling them until they are green balls of horrible mush.
You can toss your brussel sprouts in a small amount of extra virgin olive oil and maple syrup for the best results.
Cooked this way your air fryer brussel sprouts will still be suitable for:
- Low Carb
- Keto
- Paleo
- Vegan

Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts With Maple Syrup
Unlike when I cooked air fryer frozen broccoli, brussel sprouts are easier to handle. They don’t fall apart like a just steamed piece of broccoli would if you tried to mix it.
That means that air fryer frozen brussel sprouts are ideal for mixing in a layer of maple syrup or another favourite flavouring.
What I did was add my just steamed brussel sprouts to a bowl, added in maple syrup, extra virgin olive oil and salt and pepper.
Then using a spoon, I gently mixed it together before loading the sprouts into the air fryer.
