Microwave Corn On The Cob
I remember it like it was yesterday.
It was the summer of 2012 and we were at Disney World. We were on a five week trip and having a wonderful time. We went to Boston, Vermont and to did 3 weeks between Disney World and Universal Studios.
I wanted to buy everything that I saw and take it home with me. But when you have packed for a five week holiday there is not much room for souvenirs.
In fact, I would have to repack the suitcases each time we got on a plane because they all had different rules with baggage.
So, when I was going around the shops I aimed for small things that I could keep for a long time and remind me of our great holiday.
One thing, that I found in the shop was some really cute corn on the cob holders. In the shape of mickey ears with different coloured ones.
I bought them and even 10 years on we are still using our Disney corn on the cob holders to make corn.
Whilst the corn on the cob holders haven’t changed, what has changed over the years is how we cook our corn.
We love air fryer frozen corn on the cob and our new favourite is microwave corn on the cob.
Just last night we found some spare fresh corn in the fridge and did the kids microwave corn and they got excited over which mickey ears they were going to use.
Can You Microwave Corn On The Cob?
Yes, you can. Cooking corn on the cob in the microwave, is AMAZING and I just wish that I had done it sooner.
Corn on the cob in the microwave is so ridiculously easy and you can use fresh corn without husks and its so easy your kids can prep it and put it in the microwave, just make sure you remove it from the microwave for them so that they don’t burn themselves.
Can You Microwave Corn On The Cob Without The Husk?
Yes, you can. You can very easily steam corn on the cob in the microwave without the husk.
I know this, because whenever I have purchased corn on the cob they have always been without the husk and my corn on the cob has always been fail proof.
Best Way To Microwave Corn On The Cob?
The best way to microwave corn on the cob and the easiest ever way to do corn on the cob is using a Ziploc bag.
What you do is place a small amount of water and your butter into the Ziploc bag with seasoned fresh corn on the cob.
Seal the Ziploc bag and you have quick corn on the cob.
The microwave steams the corn on the cob, and you will be amazed at how many minutes it takes to cook your corn.
Microwave Corn On The Cob Without Husk
The traditional way to cook corn on the cob in the microwave, is to cook it in the husk and the husk stops it from drying out.
But like I mentioned above, if you swap the husk for the Ziploc bag it solves this problem and also cooks it in the butter.
Buttered Corn On The Cob
Are you like me and love buttered corn on the cob with some salt and pepper? That is my all time favourite way to enjoy my corn.
The easiest way to achieve this with the microwave, is to season your corn on the cob first, or whilst it is in the Ziploc bag and then add butter to the bag too.
Then you have a gorgeous buttery corn on the cob once cooked.
Then the butter melts as the corn cooks, and you can also serve it with extra butter too if you want.

Corn On The Cob Microwave Recipe Ingredients
Corn – I recommend any fresh corn on the cob with its husks removed. You can do as many will fit in a Ziploc bag, which with our bags would be a max of 6. Though because we were just doing them for dinner for our little ones we did just 2.
Water – To steam corn on the cob in the microwave you will need a tablespoon of water into the bottom of your Ziploc bag.
Ziploc – You will also need a 1 gallon Ziploc bag which if you work with metric like me, that is 4.5 litres capacity.
Seasoning – Then for seasoning I love to keep it simple when I cook corn on the cob in the microwave and just use salt and pepper.
Butter – I love buttered corn on the cob and I add a little to the Ziploc bag and then you can add a little extra as you serve your corn.
Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this microwave corn on the cob recipe it has just been our Panasonic Microwave Oven. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of microwave recipes.

How Many Minutes Do You Microwave Corn On The Cob?
This is what I asked my friend, after he introduced me to making corn on the cob in the microwave.
He said 3 minutes for microwave corn on the cob and I thought surely not? Surely, corn on the cob will not be done in 3 minutes.
Well, I tried corn on the cob, and it was just done.
I then did it again for 5 minutes and it was just how I like it.
The big takeaway here, is that microwave cooking time for fresh corn on the cob will vary depending on your microwave wattage.
I did corn on the cob with an 800w microwave, yet the person sharing the recipe had a 1000w.
How Long Do You Microwave Corn On The Cob?
After lots of research and learning about different wattage I have found that the corn on the cob microwave time is:
- 600 watts – 7 Minutes
- 800 watts – 5 Minutes
- 1000 watts – 3 Minutes
- 1200 watts – 2 Minutes
If in doubt with how long it takes for corn on the cob to be cooked for your microwave, do a minute less, check on it and see if you need to add extra cooking time.
