I love Dom’s logic and answer when we talking about soaking air fryer potatoes….. He always says nobody ever soaks potatoes before using the deep fat fryer, so why the air fryer?

And he is right!

The only real time you should soak potatoes before air frying is if you are doing them 1000000% oil free (which we don’t advise as its too dry) or if you are using really dry out of season potatoes.

Potatoes – Lets start with some beautiful red skin potatoes. You can do baby potatoes, or medium or large reds here. Its totally personal preference. Though note, this red potatoes air fryer recipe time and temp is based around regular medium sized reds that have been quartered.

Oil – Please don’t use avocado oil its not very good for the air fryer and stops your air fryer red potato from getting crispy. Instead opt for extra virgin olive oil or for extra crispy and if you are feeling like you need pure comfort food swap this for coconut oil or duck fat.

Seasoning – Then for seasoning your air fried red potatoes its totally personal choice as you easily mix and match flavours. We love salt and pepper as a starting point. Then you can add mixed herbs, parsley, cajun or any other favourite.

Then chop the red potatoes (if of a medium size) into quarters so that they are like roast potato sizes. Or if they are baby reds then keep them whole.
  • Oil. Then place your red potatoes into a mixing bowl with the oil and seasonings and mix the potatoes well with your hands. Then place the potatoes into the air fryer.

How Long To Air Fry Red Potatoes At 400?

We don’t recommend a full cook time at 400f or 200c. That is because cooking red potatoes in air fryer at such a high temperature will result in dry red potatoes.

Instead we recommend that you increase the temperature up to 200c/400f for the last 5 minutes for the amazing crispy texture.
