Air Fryer Baby Potatoes
Can I use the word “foodgasm”? The hubby isn’t looking right now and hates that word, maybe that is why he doesn’t like Instagram?
Well it perfectly describes these air fryer truly crispy baby potatoes. They just taste so good that you want to eat them all day and every day.
Its that moment when you want the skin of the potato to be so crispy that it almost pops the potato open but doesn’t.
When the skin of the baby potatoes is wrinkled with crispy texture and you try them and wish you didn’t have to share them with anyone.
I was really upset when I first made these air fryer baby potatoes because I had made just enough for a picture in one of my favourite dishes.
This meant that I had to wait until Dominic had finished taking all the pictures before I could dive and eat some.
How wrong is that?
Next time instead of making 500g of baby potatoes in the air fryer, I should increase it to 750g and then I can eat as he photos!
It also passed the kids anti skin problem too. They remove the skin from everything, even sausages and refuse to it. BUT they will beg me for my chicken skin.
Well today, they didn’t seem to notice that there was skin on the baby potatoes and they went straight in and binged on them until they were all gone.

Can You Cook Baby Potatoes In The Air Fryer?
YES, you can. I feel like I need to shout from the rooftops of Recipe This and say that air frying a steak, is AMAZING.
Do You Call Them Baby Potatoes?
Growing up in Yorkshire, then living in Lancashire, then moving abroad to Portugal and having many US readers means I am used to foods having a different name.
Zucchini also being courgette, rutabaga also being known as neeps or swede, eggplant also known as aubergine and the list goes on and on.
But with baby potatoes I am amazed by how many different names they have.
When I asked my readers the ones with the most votes were:
Air fryer little potatoes, air fryer new potatoes, air fryer mini potatoes, air fryer small potatoes, air fryer whole baby potatoes and the list went on and on.
Growing up in England I would call them new potatoes, but if I was describing them to a blind person and needed to be descriptive, I would call them small baked potatoes that are cooked in the air fryer.
Because that is what we are talking about today. Potatoes that have gone all crispy like a baked potato and where the skin is a little wrinkly and how they are so delicious you want to eat two bowls of them.
Even better, the prep is so fast and you don’t have the long cook time of baby potatoes.
Are New Potatoes Gluten Free?
Yes, they are. The ingredients used to make delicious new potatoes are new potatoes, seasoning and a little extra virgin olive oil. This makes them a fantastic healthy air fryer side dish.
Cooking Little Potatoes in Air Fryer
The first thing I will say about cooking baby potatoes in the air fryer, is to aim for a similar size. You don’t want to have some of them cooked and then the others to still be hard in the middle.
I opened my bag of baby potatoes and glanced through them until I had sorted them into the ones that didn’t need slicing in half and that I knew would cook well.
After I had decided which of my baby potatoes I wanted to cook with, I mixed them in a bowl with a simple marinade.
I live on the Mediterranean and its all about the simple ingredients that make food taste so, so good.
For my baby potatoes marinade it included:
- Olive Oil
- Sea Salt
- Steak Seasoning
- Fresh Parsley
Steak seasoning gives it that rustic flavour and reminds me of the baby potatoes you often get served with steak in steak restaurants in Spain and Portugal. But you can replace this with black pepper or a taco seasoning if you prefer.
How To Cook Baby Potatoes In Air Fryer?
To cook baby potatoes in the air fryer is this simple:
- Load baby potatoes into a bowl.
- Add seasonings.
- Toss with your hands.
- Air fry.
- Serve.
How Long To Cook Baby Potatoes In The Air Fryer?
I have found that 17 minutes is the perfect amount of time if the air fryer is not preheated. But if your air fryer is already warm, then reduce it down to 15 minutes.
You must also remember that not all baby potatoes are the same size, so stick a fork into the biggest one, and if it is not quite soft enough then add another 2-3 minutes.

These were so wonderful. Will definitely continue to make! 💗
How much sea salt do you use?
Hi Maggie,
We used about a teaspoon ????
Can I cut a white potato into 4 pcs and get the same result? or should I use the skewer?
Hello Julie,
If the 4 pieces are the same size as the baby potatoes then you should get a similar result ????
I have an air fryer oven. What temperature should I set it for.
Hi Diane,
I recommend the same temperature. I also recommend when using the oven when you see higher temperatures being used that you use the top shelf of your air fryer oven.
I have never tasted potatoes so crispy before. Will always cook them in the air fryer from now on.
I am new to the air fryer and have to say, this recipe is what makes the air fryer worth buying.
I cut back on the seasoning and it was still a bit too much. Still, I like and will make again for sure!
I have made these a couple of times. And they are so soft and creamy inside. Wonderful! But they don’t get crispy. I use EVOO and the seasonings. So they taste great but I want the crispy potato skin. What am I doing wrong? Please help
Hi Jean,
Have you tried tossing them in extra virgin olive oil prior to cooking or are you just giving them a quick spray?
Kind regards
