Turkey Wings In Air Fryer
Today is day 6 of our turkey theme at Recipe This. We are showcasing some of the best ways to cook turkey with kitchen gadgets.
We have already showed you how to cook air fryer turkey burgers and an air fryer boneless turkey breast, air fryer turkey crown was day three, air fryer turkey legs was day 4 and yesterday it was the turn of air fryer turkey thighs. But today it gets even better with an air fryer turkey wings.
I remember my husband would always avoid chicken wings, I never asked why and just assumed they were not his thing.
Eventually I asked him why he rarely wanted air fryer frozen chicken wings and loved his answer.
He simply said, that why have chicken wings with the little meat on them, when you can be eating chicken drumsticks.
He has a point and it made me think why I too are not that bothered for chicken wings.
But what I do love instead when its in season, is turkey wings. A lot more meat compared to chicken wings, but just as crispy and delicious as the chicken.
If you love chicken wings but wish there was more meat, or adore chicken drumsticks, then you will love turkey wings in the air fryer.
Plus, as well as our free newsletter, we also have a free air fryer mini course. It is ideal for air fryer beginners or those that want to get more confident with their air fryer. The free course runs for 5 days with a new lesson delivered each day to your inbox.
Can You Cook Turkey Wings In An Air Fryer?
Yes, you can cook turkey wings in the air fryer, and they are AMAZING. Let me say that again, turkey wings in the air fryer are AMAZING. I just felt like I had to say that twice just to demonstrate how AMAZING they are!
All the flavours of chicken wings, but bigger, though you can’t fit as many in the air fryer at once.
Air Fryer Cajun Turkey Wings
This is my favourite flavouring, and you will love how easy it is to make air fryer cajun turkey wings.
You can go with a wet cajun marinade or use dried cajun seasoning. The choice is 100% yours.
Though if you are wanting a lower calorie alternative then the dry rub works best.
The ingredients I use with air fryer cajun turkey wings include:
- Turkey Wings
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Balsamic Vinegar
- Garlic Puree
- Cajun Paste
- Paprika
- Salt & Pepper
Air Fryer Jerk Turkey Wings
Just like with cajun turkey wings, you can go with a wet or a dry rub for jerk too. I often have both in my pantry as I love jerk seasoning. My favourite is to use a dry rub and make some air fryer jerk chicken and then serve it with some couscous or some instant pot brown rice.
Some don’t like too much jerk on their turkey wings, so you need to think about who you are feeding and not add too much! Yes I am talking about me and feeding my fussy teen of course!
The ingredients I use with air fryer jerk turkey wings include:
- Turkey Wings
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Balsamic Vinegar
- Garlic Puree
- Jerk Seasoning
- Paprika
- Salt & Pepper
Note that between the two types there is only ONE ingredient change. Showing you just how simple it is to mix and match for your favourite flavour. You could swap for lemon pepper, Italian seasoning, hot sauce etc.
Also note that turkey wings with a marinade style sauce compared to a dry rub will look different and a wet marinate will need to be on foil to stop it burning and making the air fryer dirty.
Turkey Wings Air Fryer Ingredients
Above I showed my two favourite methods. Air fryer cajun turkey wings and air fryer jerk turkey wings. But regardless of what seasoning you go with, the main ingredients for turkey wings remain the same.
Wings – You can use any medium sized turkey wings in the air fryer. Just note that the bigger the quantity the less likely you are to get crispy turkey wings, because the air fryer will be too full and not produce the results you want.
Oil – I recommend some extra virgin olive oil in a spray bottle that you can spray all over the turkey wings. This will help create crispy air fryer turkey wings.
Seasoning – Now this is when it gets interesting. As you can mix and match and use any seasoning that you want. You can start out with salt and pepper then if you wanted jerk add jerk seasoning or jerk marinade. Then if you wanted cajun swap for cajun seasoning or cajun marinade. Or just want it simple then salt, pepper and Italian seasoning will do the job.
Sauce. If you would usually have chicken wings with a barbecue sauce, then you can achieve the same with the air fried turkey wings. Simply toss your cooked turkey wings in barbecue sauce, or another favourite sauce.
Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in our turkey wings in the air fryer, it has just been our Philips Air Fryer. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of air fryer recipes and roasts meats like turkey perfectly.
How To Cook Turkey Wings In Air Fryer?
- Prep. Start by prepping your turkey wings. Smoother your turkey in extra virgin olive oil and then season well. The oil then becomes the glue for the seasoning and ensures flavoursome turkey wings.
- Cook. Load your turkey wings into the air fryer basket and cook for 25 minutes. You can also half the time and do half on each side for an even crispier turkey wing recipe.
- Extras. Now that you have cooked your turkey wings, if you want the wow factor, you can toss them in barbecue sauce, jerk sauce, cajun sauce, or another favourite sauce.
How Long To Cook Turkey Wings In Air Fryer?
The cooking time for turkey wings in the air fryer is JUST 25 minutes. A little longer than chicken wings due to the size and similar to cooking air fryer chicken drumsticks.
Air Fryer Temp For Turkey Wings?
The ideal air fryer turkey wings temperature is 180c/360f. This is because you don’t want to go too high because it will cook the skin and not the inside, go too low and you won’t have air fryer crispy turkey wings.
