Cheese Sauce
This was my impress the boyfriend he is a chef, kind of recipe. The one thing I was really good at, when I met my husband Dominic way back when I was 17 back at the beginning of the millennium.
And OMG my homemade cheese sauce came in so many different ways. It was used to make a lasagne, to make a vegetable bake, to make cauliflower cheese, to make moussaka, to even be dumped on toast for the best Welsh rarebit.
It could even be cheese free and then loaded with parsley for a fish sauce or even mixed with loads of garlic for a garlic creamy sauce served with some steak.
Plus, it was a proper cheese sauce with the roux and I would make it in a pan before serving it.
But over the years I made it less and less and it was soon replaced with my soup maker cheese sauce that is flourless and made with hidden veggies instead of flour and butter.
The chef hubby mentioned after we bought our Thermomix if we could make a real cheese sauce in it, and I thought why not?
So today, is my original cheese sauce that I first learnt to cook when I was about 12, transformed to the Thermomix.

My thoughts on Thermomix Cheese Sauce:
It’s addictive – If you have not made cheese sauce yet in the Thermomix, once you start there is no stopping you. It tastes good, it’s the right consistency and so much easier than cooking on the stove.
Freezer – You can also make a big batch and freeze some. We like to be able to have a last minute cauliflower cheese and we know we can just grab some cheese sauce from the freezer whenever we want to.
You can have variety – You can also mix and match the ingredients for different themes, such as swapping milk for chicken stock for serving with some chicken.
But most importantly, would I recommend cheese sauce in the Thermomix? Yes, I would. I would highly recommend that every Thermomix user tries cheese sauce. So easy and perfect for Sunday dinners.

Cheese Sauce Thermomix Ingredients
Flour – I recommend a quality flour. A cheap flour can result in a cheese sauce that puffs up too much and is often known to cause gastric problems. I usually use bero or a similar flour and you will need plain flour not self raising.
Butter – Then the second most important ingredient in a cheese sauce recipe is the butter. Though you can opt for a low fat alternative such as a reduced fat margarine instead.
Milk – Then once the flour and butter have made the classic roux you will need plenty of milk to transform the roux into a white sauce.
Cheese – Then to make the white sauce into a cheese sauce you will want lots of your favourite cheese as well as any seasonings you would like to add in. If you would like a classic orange looking cheese sauce, make sure you opt for orange cheeses such as red Leicester or a orange cheddar. Alternatively for a white cheese sauce go with a white cheddar or a mozzarella.
Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this cheese sauce in Thermomix recipe it has just been our TM6 and its wonderful for many types of sauces.
Plus, we recommend you head over to our Thermomix recipes category as we will be adding Thermomix recipes as we try new ones for you.
How To Make Cheese Sauce In Thermomix?
- Load. Add your butter into the Thermomix and cook at 100c/210f speed 2 for 2minutes.
- Roux. When the butter has melted add in the flour and cook for a further 2 minutes at speed 4 at the same temperature. You will then have your roux.
- Sauce. Then add in your milk and do the same time, speed, and temp as you did to make your roux. You will now have a creamy white sauce.
- Finish. Add in the cheese, any seasonings and cook at the same temp, for 2 minutes on speed 4. You will now have a cheese sauce. Add some extra milk if too thick and if not cheesy enough feel free to add more cheese.
And you now have a Thermomix cheese sauce and I am sure you can’t wait to make it yourself in your Thermomix.
What About Thermomix Pasta Sauce?
If you’re making cheese sauce for pasta, then I recommend making the pasta at the same time as the cheese sauce.
I normally make some basic pasta in the instant pot following the cook times of my instant pot macaroni pasta salad and then I will pour the cheese sauce over the pasta and mix well.
What To Make With This Easy Cheese Sauce?

- Air Fryer Potato Gratin
- Air Fryer Green Bean Casserole

What Thermomix Settings Do You Use?
The easiest way to do this thermomix cheesy sauce recipe is to use the manual settings.
The manual setting is perfect for mixing and cooking at the same time. You can be setting the temperature, the time, and the speed all on one screen. Then it will beep when it is done.
For example, when we were making the cheese sauce we used speed 4 for 2 minutes on 100c/210f most of the time.
Your cheese sauce thermomix recipe is below, note you can print it out with or without photos, adjust servings, or click between metric and imperial depending on where you are in the world.

Do you have this recipe to make without a Thermomix? I do not have one but would like a nice cheese sauce for several meals I make.
Hi Sally,
unfortunately we do not have any other kitchen gadgets that allow you cook and blend at the same time which is what is needed to melt the butter and mix the flour.
However we have our soupmaker cheese sauce:
https://recipethis.com/quick-blend-syn-free-slimming-world-cheese-sauce/
Which is butter and flour free and uses veggies as a base. Alternatively you can make this with a butternut squash soup as the base and then just add loads of cheese, so if you have an instant pot follow our instant pot butternut squash soup:
https://recipethis.com/instant-pot-butternut-squash-soup/
and then add as much cheese as you would want 🙂
