Greggs Steak Bake

This week on Recipe This, we are celebrating great Greggs frozen food that you can cook in the air fryer.

We have already done Greggs vegan sausage rolls and Greggs chicken bakes, as well as our Greggs Magic Bag and today is the turn of another of Greggs best, and that is Greggs steak bakes.

If you have not had a steak bake from Greggs yet, then you are in for a treat as they are truly delicious meat loaded British pasty.

As someone that grew up in England and moved back to England because I missed the food so much, steak bakes is one of those staples that we all must try at least once.

What is great about the Greggs pasty range is that you can buy them in bulk from Iceland where they are sold frozen but raw and then cook them in the air fryer.

You can also use the air fryer to reheat steak bakes that you have bought from a Greggs bakery.

Today we are going to show how to cook greggs frozen steak in the air fryer, as well as reheat already cooked steak bakes.

Can You Air Fry Greggs Bakes?

Yes, you sure can. steak bakes in an air fryer are delicious. I recommend adding some egg wash, load them into the air fryer and you have perfectly golden steak bakes, that look just like the steak bakes that you are sold inside of a Greggs bakery.

I have also experimented and used extra virgin olive oil spray instead of egg wash, but have found it doesn’t produce such a golden glow.

Can You Reheat Greggs Steak Bake?

You sure can and I have done it more times than I can remember. You can also do the same with other brands of frozen pasties too. It doesn’t have to be a greggs steak bake.

They require a much quicker cook time compared to raw and frozen steak bakes and its perfect for your leftovers from a trip to the bakery.

Can You Reheat Greggs Steak Bake In Microwave?

You sure can reheat greggs steak bake in the microwave but it doesn’t mean that you should!

When you reheat a Greggs steak bake in the microwave, they go soggy and greasy and taste rather awful.

However, reheat greggs steak bake in the air fryer instead and its crispy again, the grease has gone to the bottom of the air fryer basket, and it tastes like a steak bake just bought from Greggs.

Can You Eat A Greggs Steak Bake The Next Day?

Yes, you can. It is completely safe to eat a Greggs steak bake (or any of Greggs pasties) the next day. Though if you are doing this, I recommend that you only leave it one day before consuming.

Also make sure if you are leaving your Greggs steak bake until the next day that it is thoroughly reheated.

I also appreciate that, if you are outside of the UK, you probably cannot source Greggs pasties to air fry.

Our Greggs steak bakes come from the frozen range in Iceland and we have bulk bought many of their different frozen Greggs products to see how they do in the air fryer.

Instead, I recommend that you use any frozen steak pasty. Then aim for one of a similar size to ours so that your cook time can be similar.

Greggs Steak Bake Ingredients

Greggs Steak Bake Ingredients

Frozen – You will need your Greggs frozen steak bakes from Iceland that you will want to cook in the air fryer. You can do two at a time in an average size air fryer, but if you want you can do them in batches.

Eggs – You will need eggs for the egg wash. I usually add a large egg to a ramekin and mix it with a fork with a splash of milk. Or you can make it more flavoursome by adding some seasoning to the eggs such as salt, pepper, and steak seasoning. Or your plan B is to use some extra virgin olive oil spray like you will see in our pictures below.

Sauce – Are you the one that likes something to dunk their beef pasties into? I am. I love mayonnaise or ketchup the most. Just grab whatever you prefer or go without.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this Greggs steak bake air fryer recipe it has just been our Cosori Air Fryer. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of air fryer recipes.

Plus, we recommend you head over to our air fryer recipes category as we have more than 500 tried and tested air fryer recipes and have been air frying for 10 years.

How To Cook Greggs Steak Bake In Air Fryer?

  • Load. Remove your frozen steak bakes from its packaging and add it to the air fryer basket.
  • Spray. Next spray the steak bakes with extra virgin olive oil. This will help stop them looking anaemic and give them a crisp. Alternatively swap this for egg wash.
  • Cook. Air fry your Greggs steak bakes for 14 minutes until golden and piping hot in the centre.

And I am sure you can see now how easy it is to air fry steak bakes and why it has become one of my favourite frozen foods.

How Long To Cook Greggs Steak Bake?

Greggs steak bake cooking time is JUST 14 minutes. And we follow a dual temperature.

This means that we start the air fryer at 160c/320f to defrost and cook in the middle and then increase the temperature up to 200c/400f for the golden pasty crust.

This is also essential when reheating meat from frozen and do check with a thermometer that your pasties are piping hot.

How Do You Reheat Greggs Steak Bake?

If you are reheating Greggs steak bake then the cook time is a lot less.

This is because the for the regular recipe the Greggs pasties are frozen and uncooked.

For a reheat of a Greggs steak bake I recommend 4 minutes at 160c/320f. Then check if it’s piping hot before serving.

Can You Freeze Greggs Steak Bakes?

Yes, you can. But don’t forget the golden rule of only reheating meat once. Therefore, if you have brought a steak bake home from Greggs, and then reheated it and not finished it, then you can’t reheat it again.

If you plan to freeze, then bring your greggs steak bakes home, make sure they are cold and then load into your preferred freezer containers.

Greggs Vegetable Bakes

If you are missing Greggs vegan steak bakes and are looking for an alternative vegetarian food, then I highly recommend Greggs vegetable bakes.

They carry the same time and temp as the steak bakes and do taste delicious.

    • Hi Winniebear,

Thank you, unfortunately they are not but I am sure they have some kind of alternatives, try and look for any frozen un-cooked pasties and they should be like ours and the cook times should be the same 🙂
