I am sure by now, if you have read Recipe This for a while, that you will know us Milners have a thing for hot dogs and sausages.
They are one of those delicious foods that cook so well in kitchen gadgets.
We love to make instant pot hot dogs and get excited over the dirty water method. Our readers have been following our air fryer hot dogs recipe for some time now and we also love to air fryer sausage links.
Sausages have been a thing of mine for more years than I can remember and our instant pot frozen Italian sausages is inspired by early cooking I did for Dominic when we first set up home.
Air fryer frozen hot dogs came about because we had some spare German sausages in the freezer, plenty of frozen hot dog buns and wanted to share with you how easy it is.
That you have a simple way for cooking your favourite frozen hot dogs and that dinner does not have to be a big deal. You can throw it all in the air fryer and have a delicious dinner to share with your family.
You can then choose how you like them. That might be mustard, mayonnaise, burger sauce or even tomato ketchup.

Yes, you can cook frozen hot dogs. Just like with frozen sausages, hot dogs can also be cooked from frozen, and we have done this many times in the air fryer and in the instant pot.
The best way to cook frozen hot dogs is to cook them in the air fryer. The air fryer can defrost and warm through the hot dogs at the same time and make them more grill like.
You can of course cook frozen hot dogs on the grill, or in the microwave, but we much prefer the air fryer method.
Can You Air Fry Frozen Hot Dogs?
Yes you can and they are AMAZING. Frozen hot dogs cook better in the air fryer compared to fresh. That is because the wet moisture from the frozen hot dog sausage helps decrease the amount of smoke in the air fryer.
Plus, you have no worries about food waste because you can grab your hot dogs directly from the freezer, remove the packaging and load them into the air fryer basket.
They are also perfect for those lazy days when you are too tired to cook but have mouths to feed. Just throw your frozen hot dogs in air fryer and you are all set.
What Do Air Fryer Frozen Hot Dogs Taste Like?
Air fryer frozen hot dogs taste just like hot dogs from the fair or from your family barbecue. Think of a grilled like flavour but cooked much quicker. I love air fryer frozen hot dogs for those times out of season when you are craving a hot dog, but its way too cold and annoying to go outside and turn the barbecue on.

Well let me tell you, that thanks to the wonderful technology of the air fryer and the way it circulates air, cooking frozen hot dogs taste amazing.
They do not have that horrible dry taste that frozen food often has, and you can remove the packaging, load them in the freezer and cook your frozen hot dogs.
Can You Cook Straight From Frozen In Air Fryer?
Yes, you can cook straight from frozen in the air fryer and air fryer frozen food is very popular, especially for those just starting out with the air fryer.
The first food we ever air fried was air fryer frozen chicken strips and we have many favourite air fryer frozen foods including air fryer frozen boneless chicken wings, air fryer frozen chicken kiev, air fryer frozen cauliflower (always a lunch favourite) and Jorge could just eat a bowl of air fryer frozen sweet potato fries.
Frozen Hot Dogs In Air Fryer Ninja Foodi
Also, if you have a Ninja Foodi and want to use the air fryer setting for frozen hot dogs in the air fryer, then you can do this too.
Simply use the air fryer basket of the Ninja and then follow the same time and temps.
Frozen Hot Dog Air Fryer Ingredients
Hotdogs – For frozen hotdogs we used one box of the TGI Friday’s frozen hotdogs which are so delicious. They come in a block of frozen hotdogs so you can partly defrost first to help separate them before air frying.
Optional – I love my sauce on a hotdog and usually have a combo of tomato ketchup and mustard. You can do the same or use your own favourite.
Can You Recommend An Air Fryer?
I often get asked which air fryers I recommend and which one I use. In 95% of our air fryer recipes, we use either the Philips Air Fryer XL or the Cosori XL because they are the best ones, we have found out of many air fryers we have tried over the years. But if you would rather have a dual air fryer we recommend this Ninja Dual (make sure you order the right one as not all are good) or the Philips Dual.
How To Cook Frozen Hot Dogs In Air Fryer?
- Load. Place your frozen hot dogs into the air fryer basket. They are likely to be stuck together like a block.
- Cook. Next air fry frozen hot dogs for 8 minutes at 160c/320f.
- Separate. Then the hot dogs will be soft enough to separate with a knife and then you can spread them out in the air fryer basket.
- Cook. Then air fry the hot dogs for a further 6 minutes at 180c/360f or until heated through.
- Serve. Next serve your hotdogs in buns with your favourite sauces and why not try it with some air fried onions?
How Long To Cook Frozen Hot Dogs In Air Fryer?
Air fryer hot dogs frozen usually take about 14 minutes. But this depends on how efficient your air fryer is and the size of your hot dogs.
Ours took 14 minutes and were really thick hot dog sausages.
Then for the temperature, the recommended frozen hot dogs in air fryer temperature is 160c/320f for the initial defrost to 180c/360f for heating through.
Frozen Hot Dog Buns In Air Fryer?
You can also use the air fryer to defrost and warm your frozen hot dog buns.
If doing the hot dog buns we recommend 5 minutes at 160c/320f from frozen, or 3 minutes at the same temperature to warm them up if they are not frozen.

Instructions
- Let’s cook hot dogs from frozen. Place the block of frozen hot dogs into the air fryer basket and air fry for 8 minutes at 160c/320f.
- When the air fryer beeps, they will be semi-defrosted and you can use a knife to separate them.
- Air fry the hot dogs for a further 6 minutes at 180c/360f.
- Warm up the hot dog buns for 3 minutes at 160c/320f or if frozen increase the time to 5 minutes.
- Then serve the hot dogs in buns with your favourite sauces.
