Air Fryer Chicken Kiev

When you think of an air fryer chicken kiev, the likelihood is that you are thinking about an air fryer frozen chicken kiev. The sort that you grab a box of kievs from the freezer, load them into the air fryer, and then air fry until you have crispy chicken with a delicious filling.

But our reader Carol, asked for something different – she wanted to know all about chicken kiev in air fryer, but instead of from frozen, a chicken kiev she had bought from the chilled produce aisle in her local Tescos.

We loved the idea, and we were soon wondering how long would we be cooking chilled chicken kievs in the air fryer and would it differ from frozen?

In today’s chicken kievs in air fryer, we will be testing Tesco’s chilled chicken kievs and seeing how they compare.

Can You Cook Chicken Kiev In Air Fryer?

Yes, you can cook chicken kiev in air fryer and you will love it. The chicken breading goes so crispy in the air fryer, plus the filling is so good and cooks perfectly. Plus, because chicken kievs are quite small, you can easily fit them in any size of air fryer.

Can You Cook Tesco Chicken Kiev In Air Fryer?

Yes, you can cook Tesco chicken kiev in the air fryer. Both the frozen and the chilled chicken kievs that we are showing you how to cook today.

If you do spot Tesco chicken kievs on a yellow sticker in the chilled aisle, you can also add them to the freezer for later and cook from frozen if you prefer.

Air Fryer Chicken Kiev Ingredients

Air Fryer Chicken Kiev Ingredients

Kievs – You will need some chilled chicken kievs. We used four chilled kievs from Tescos but any will do.

Flavours – There are often different flavours of chicken kievs but we love the classic taste of garlic butter.

Chips – I don’t know about you but I want chicken kiev and chips. Our favourites are air fryer frozen crinkle cut fries, but you can use any. You can also cook the chips in one basket and then the chicken kiev in the other.

Peas – This is of course optional, but I love to add some peas. Plus, you can cook them in a little ramekin with some butter and its so simple.

Can You Recommend An Air Fryer?

I often get asked which air fryers I recommend and which one I use. In 95% of our air fryer recipes, we use either the Philips Air Fryer XL or the Cosori XL because they are the best ones, we have found out of many air fryers we have tried over the years. You can click on the links above and read up on them. But if you would rather have a dual air fryer we recommend this Ninja Dual (make sure you order the right one as not all are good) or the Philips Dual.

How To Cook Chilled Chicken Kiev In Air Fryer?

  • Place. Start by placing your chicken kievs into one of your air fryer drawers. Then place the frozen chips into the other.
  • Cook. Set the time and temperature. We recommend for ease of use, to match the dual drawers and cook for 18 minutes at 180c/360f, shaking the chips halfway through.
  • Peas. Then remove the kievs as they will only need 18 minutes in the air fryer and replace with a ramekin of frozen peas with some butter. Cook for a final 4 minutes at 200c/400f to finish the chips and warm through the peas.
  • Finish. Serve the chilled kiev with the chips and peas and you have dinner.

Note – we cooked our air fryer chicken kiev in our Ninja Dual, you can do the same in an air fryer basket just place the chips around the kievs.

Is It Better To Air Fry Or Bake Chicken In The Air Fryer?

When you have a Ninja Air Fryer, you are likely to have both an air fry button and a bake button, as well as roast and a few others and it can be confusing over which one you should use.

Well, unless a recipe needs to cook under 160c/320f, you should always use the air fry button. The fan is more powerful, and with the other buttons you will just feel like the air fried food is lacking.

Paper Liner Chicken Kievs

Note that we cooked chicken kievs on a paper liner in the air fryer (we used these ones). The reason for this is because:

  1. It makes it easy to remove them from the air fryer as you just grab the sides of the paper liner.
  2. If any of the chicken kiev leaks out, it lands on the liner and you can then drizzle it onto your dinner plate.
  3. It avoids a clean up of your air fryer drawer.

How Long To Cook Chilled Chicken Kiev In Air Fryer?

The fresh chicken kiev cooking time is JUST 18 minutes. This is really quick and easy in the air fryer and you will love the crisp on the chicken kiev breading.

Or check out our air fryer frozen chicken kiev details which is JUST 20 minutes.

    1. Hi Nick,

This is because when made fresh the chicken is raw and in the box we used the chicken was pre cooked so you are just defrosting and heating up the kievs 🙂

    1. Hi Millie,

If you are cooking 2 kiev´s then i would increase the time just slightly by a minute or 2 🙂

Followed the frozen directions and it worked great! The only thing I may try next time is to spray some cooking spray half way through. The breading ended up being a bit too dry for my liking.

love fried foods. I think an air fryer will be best for me in the future. Its a great idea to cook with 80% less oil 🙂
