Air Fryer Hot Dogs
Air Fryer Hot Dogs anyone? I love hot dogs and in the air fryer they taste so good.
Hot dogs take me back to so many happy memories and shout out COMFORT FOOD and no matter whether you’re young or old, hot dogs are the perfect quick feast.
We have a favourite water park here in Portugal. I would compare it to a smaller version of Wet N Wild, but the atmosphere is better and there is less slides. It is called Slide N Splash.
We like it because it is compact and you don’t have a long walk from ride to ride. We will set up for the day on the grass with our towels and have a wonderful day out. There is a massive kid’s area and I will get lost in the moment.
But unlike many commercial days out, the food is very good. I just don’t have the willpower to bring packed lunches as we look forward to the food so much. They have homemade burgers and then a section where they sell the hot dogs. And OMG the hotdogs are so good.
It is how my daughter Sofia’s addiction to hotdogs has come from. She is 4 years old and always refuses a burger, but hot dogs she loves!
When we told her that we had bought the ingredients in for air fryer hot dogs, she spent a full week and a half nagging us for them, until of course we gave up and made them earlier than planned!

Air Fryer Hot Dogs (Your Way)

The wonderful thing about air fryer hot dogs, is that you can choose how you have them. There is no right or wrong way to have your hot dogs in the air fryer.
I like to have my air fryer hot dogs with crispy fried onions, mustard, warm hot dogs, warm bread and melted butter around the hot dog bun.
But Dominic hates mustard and will swap mustard for mayonnaise.
Or the kids will have them with tomato ketchup. After all kids love ketchup!
Cooking Hot Dogs In The Air Fryer
I love the air fryer for quick and easy family meals and snacks. It feels like it ticks so many boxes for so many kitchen gadgets and allows you to reduce the amounts of gadgets taking up room in your kitchen.
One of my favourite uses of my air fryer is the quick ability to warm up bread. But unlike a toaster, you can use any size of bread that you like including hot dog buns.
I also use the air fryer a LOT for warming up sausages. Or if you want a sausage buttie and you’re in a rush, you can throw frozen sausages into the air fryer and it cooks them fast.
The air fryer we have, that we used to make our hot dogs in, is the Philips XL and you can order it here or read our Philips Air Fryer XL Review.

How To Cook Hot Dogs In The Air Fryer?
The process of cooking hot dogs in the air fryer is so simple. The biggest thing to remember is that hot dogs in buns taste so much better if the bread is warm and if you have warm melted butter inside of the hot dog bun.
We cook our hot dogs in the air fryer is as follows:
- Place the hot dog sausages into the air fryer basket and cook to the 70% ratio.
- Remove the hot dog sausages from the air fryer.
- Slice down the middle the hot dog buns and add in butter and the hot dogs.
- Place back in the air fryer and cook for the remaining 30% ratio.
- Serve with your favourite hot dog toppings.
By following the 70%/30% ratio it allows you to get the hot dogs to nearly hot, then gives you time to warm up the hot dog buns at the same time as finishing cooking the hot dogs. You’re not waiting around then for the bread to warm up.
Or don’t you just hate it when you get your butter out and its rock hard. Instead you can use the air fryer to melt the butter into the hot dog buns!

Hi, I am just wondering if the time stays the same for your recipes in the air fryer if I am using less items. ie: I wanted to try ONE hot dog in the air fryer to taste it, is it still 4 mins and then 2 mins?
Hi Norma,
Yes usually the time is still the same but if you use less items the air can circulate alot better in the air fryer so making the food cook slightly quicker. So for the hot dog on its own i would use 3 mins and then 1 minute 🙂
