Air Fryer Crumpets
We all have those favourite foods from childhood, don’t we? I have so many greats and crumpets are up there in the top 5. My grandad who was a fantastic cook, got me hooked on crumpets, as well as other classic foods like liver and onions, black pudding, scotch broth and his amazing fishcakes.
For a guy that was born in 1917 and raised his children during the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s he was a modern dad with a true talent for cooking.
So, when he showed me that crumpets taste amazing when warmed up over a coal fire and then loaded with butter I was smitten.
Since then, my crumpets addiction has grown and grown. When I lived in England, I would always have Warburtons Crumpets for breakfast. I remember being on a trip back to England in 2008 and sleeping on a great friend’s sofa.
He just couldn’t believe that I would spend a whole week just eating crumpets. I hadn’t had any for months and the craving was crazy. He also was a gem and bought me some more when I ran out.
Fast forward to Christmas 2020 and I was in the English supermarket with Dominic. He was buying his Warburtons thick sliced toast bread and I was buying Warburtons Crumpets and he asked if they were on the blog. There are 1000+ recipes now so sometimes he forgets which ones we have done.
When I said NO, I just knew there and then that I must do you a recipe for air fryer crumpets.
What Is A Crumpet?
A crumpet is a small griddle cake, or many call it a mix between a pancake and an English muffin. It has a similar central texture as bread. It is famous for its pretty holes and many love the crumpet because of the way the crumpet toppings dribble in the holes.
A crumpet is most popular in the UK, but is also popular in Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.
What Are Crumpets Made Of?
The main ingredients in a crumpet are:
But of course, with Warburtons selling 700 million crumpets a year and having the perfect recipe, I am all about toasting my favourite brand of crumpets instead!
Can You Cook Crumpets In Air Fryer?
Absolutely! In fact, cooking crumpets in the air fryer is easier than our air fryer toast. I know this sounds silly when they are similar foods, but because crumpets are heavier than toast, it doesn’t do a runner into the air vents.
You can simply place four crumpets at a time in your air fryer and then let the air fryer do the hard work.
How To Cook Crumpets?
Cooking crumpets in air fryer is one of the EASIEST EVER air fryer recipes.
- Place frozen or fresh crumpets into the air fryer basket.
- Set time and temp.
- Air fry + add crumpet toppings.
- Serve with a warm mug of English tea.
There is a little bit more to air fryer crumpets, but that is the basics.
How To Eat Crumpets?
If you are wondering what crumpet toppings to include, then I am going to make this boring and tell you that a buttered crumpet is the best.
There is nothing better for your crumpets then melted butter. The butter melts into the holes and it like the best alternative toast experience ever.
Or make it like the British Afternoon Tea by adding some jam to your crumpets too.
Or my other favourite topping is to add some butter along with some Philadelphia soft cheese.
Are Crumpets Bread?
Crumpets have a texture and taste similar to bread but there are more like a thick pancake batter. If you have ever had English Muffins, think of them as similar to those.
Can You Eat Crumpets Cold?
Yes you can. But they are boring and it’s like when you eat your dinner when it has gone cold. It is just not the same. Plus, a lot of the crumpet’s obsession is about them being warm with melted butter dripping down.
Can You Toast Crumpets From Frozen?
Yes you can and I do this a lot. You see where I source my Warburtons Crumpets from, is sold frozen. Therefore, I will usually transfer them from the supermarket freezer to my freezer. I will then have a craving for crumpets and realise that they are in the freezer.
Grab some out and throw them straight into the air fryer for them to be toasted from frozen.

TikTok Air Fryer Crumpets
Crumpets has recently become a thing on TikTok and become a TikTok trend and we decided to try it the different way.
Instead of simply loading crumpets into the air fryer and air frying, you cut them into quarters, like you would with afternoon tea sandwiches.
Then load them into the air fryer (on foil) sideways and spray with extra virgin olive oil.
Then add grated cheese and air fry for 4 minutes at 200c/400f. You then have this cheesy air fryer crumpets thing that is AMAZING. And if you want crumpets with cheese, then this is how its done.
But it gets better….if you remove the crumpets with the foil you can eat from the foil and save on washing up!
