Fried Egg In Air Fryer
Our first fried egg in air fryer happened during the testing process for The Complete Air Fryer Cookbook. Someone asked us if we could include fried eggs in the air fryer.
And we were like, erm fried eggs in the air fryer sounds like a plan. We then did fried eggs on their own and as part of a full English breakfast.
We did the popular air fryer fried eggs ramekin method, but as we have experimented more and more with different ways to air fry a fried egg, we have 3 new options for you.
Can You Fry An Egg In An Air Fryer?
Yes, you can fry an egg in an air fryer and its easy peasy. In fact, I would say that a fried egg in the air fryer is a lot easier than in a frying pan. I know many people when they think of fried eggs, think of it spitting at them, getting the pan to the correct heat and do they flip the fried egg or not.
Whilst frying eggs in air fryer is quickly cracking the eggs in a preheated air fryer and then letting the air fryer work its magic.
Why Preheat The Air Fryer?
I know I mention all the time that I donโt preheat the air fryer, yet I just said to preheat the air fryer for making fried eggs.
Youโre probably confused especially if you have listened to our podcast about preheating the air fryer.
But hear me outโฆ.
If a food would be a disaster without a preheat of the oven or a frying pan, then it needs a preheat of the air fryer. For example, if you put a whole chicken in the oven without a preheat it wouldnโt ruin it, it would just take ages to cook. Whilst a fried egg without a preheat of a frying pan would be a failure. Just like you must preheat when making our air fryer Yorkshire puddings.
Can You Fry An Egg In A Ninja Air Fryer?
Yes, you sure can fry an egg in the Ninja Air Fryer and the paper liner method we are going to show you for fried eggs is made in the Ninja Air Fryer Dual.
What Material Can You Put In An Air Fryer?
The easy answer when it comes to air frying is that anything that is oven friendly is air fryer friendly as long as it fits.
This means that for materials that you can use in the air fryer includes:
- Paper liners, baking paper, parchment paper, greaseproof paper (depending on what you call it where you live
- Glass containers such as pyrex (but more on why we donโt use them below)
- Casserole dishes, but need them that fit your air fryer
- Ramekins
- Foil including foil trays/pans
- Mini oven trays, perfect for air fryer oven types
- Silicone are perfect and you can use silicone mats, trays, cake pans etc
If youโre wondering about if you can use glass in the air fryer, then note, whilst it perfectly fits and is safe, it gets very hot, is hard to remove from the air fryer and is very slow cooking.
Best Materials To Use In The Air Fryer?
Out of those mentioned, my favourite that we use in the air fryer, and that you use for frying eggs in the air fryer include:
Paper liners โ genius especially because they have an overhang so it makes it easy to get food in and out of the air fryer. We use these ones.
Mini casserole dishes โ we used these in our first air fryer cookbook and also used them to make the fried eggs with. I can fit one in each air fryer dual drawer, or two in my cosori air fryer. This is the pack of mini casserole dishes we have.
Silicone containers โ silicone is another genius air fryer move. No greasing containers and the food comes out perfect every single time. We have this new 4 pack that we bought from Lakeland and they are a perfect air fryer fit.
Ramekins โ an extension of the casserole dish as itโs the same material. But what is wonderful here is that you can fit 4 in the average air fryer and they are perfect for lots of things. I even use them to melt butter in the air fryer with. These are the ones we use.
Fried Egg Air Fryer Ingredients
Eggs โ We used 2 large eggs. Donโt worry about bringing them to room temperature. Either from the fridge or from your egg holder is fine.
Accessory. Of course, you then need to choose between paper liner, silicone egg moulds, or a casserole dish or ramekin. Though note, because casserole dishes/ramekins are not non-stick you would need a spray with oil to make it easier to clean afterwards.
Can You Recommend An Air Fryer?
I often get asked which air fryers I recommend and which one I use. In 95% of our air fryer recipes, we use either the Philips Air Fryer XL or the Cosori XL because they are the best ones, we have found out of many air fryers we have tried over the years. You can click on the links above and read up on them. But if you would rather have a dual air fryer we recommend this Ninja Dual (make sure you order the right one as not all are good) or the Philips Dual.
Paper Liner Air Fryer Fried Eggs
- Preheat. Start by preheating the air fryer to 180c/360f for 2 minutes.
- Prep. Line the air fryer with a paper liner and then crack the eggs onto the paper liner, putting one at each end so that it will hold it down and the paper wont move about.
- Cook. Fry eggs in air fryer at 180c/360f for 6 minutes or until the fried eggs are set.
Now that is the paper liner version of how to fry an egg in an air fryer. My preferred method for how much it actually looks like a fried egg. So next is the silicone mould version.
Air Fryer Fried Eggs In Silicone Cups
- Preheat. Start by preheating the air fryer to 180c/360f for 2 minutes.
- Prep. Place the silicone into the air fryer, spray with olive oil and then crack an egg into each mould.
- Cook. Fry eggs in air fryer at 180c/360f for 7 minutes or until the fried eggs are set.
Note the difference with silicone, they need an extra minute because silicone in the air fryer takes slightly longer.
Fried Eggs Air Fryer Casserole/Ramekin Method
- Preheat. Start by preheating the air fryer to 180c/360f for 2 minutes.
- Prep. Place the casserole mini dishes, or ramekins into the air fryer and spray with olive oil and then crack an egg into each dish.
- Cook. Fry eggs in air fryer at 180c/360f for 5 minutes or until the fried eggs are set.
Now that is how easy it is cooking fried eggs in air fryer.
But how do they truly look once cooked?
This is the three types of egg after they have been removed from the accessories.
My vote is for the paper liner for looking the most natural, the silicone for the easiest method (putting it in and getting it out) and casserole dish last because itโs easy for it to stick.

How Long To Cook A Fried Egg In Air Fryer?
The cooking time for fried egg in air fryer varies depending on what accessory youโre using.
- 5 minutes for a casserole dish or a ramekin
- 6 minutes for a paper liner
- 7 minutes for a silicone mould
What about air fryer fried egg temperature? We recommend cooking the air fryer eggs at 180c/360f.
