Instant Pot Air Fryer Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Welcome to my Instant Pot Air Fryer Cauliflower Pizza Crust recipe. This is an updated version of our non-gadget three cheese cauliflower pizza that we originally shared back in the summer of 2016. It is now cooked in both the instant pot pressure cooker and the air fryer for the best results.

One question I often get asked is whether I prefer the instant pot or the air fryer.

I feel like a politician that never gives them a straight answer and never gives it a thumbs up for the instant pot or a thumbs up for the air fryer.

That is because both the air fryer and the instant pot have different uses and ideally, every kitchen should own both an instant pot and an air fryer.

On a typical day in the Milner house we will use both the instant pot and the air fryer.

Today as I write this, we had a delicious healthy lunch. It was salmon, broccoli, sweet potato fries and a fried egg.

Perfect for a day when we are working out and want the protein and the vegetables.

The salmon and broccoli were cooked together in the instant pot and the sweet potato fries in the air fryer.

It all came together at a similar time and the fried egg was done on the stovetop.

It was the perfect lunch and you can follow the recipes below:

On the typical day this is how we cook.

The same can be said for making a cauliflower pizza crust. The prep of making the cauliflower crust is done in the instant pot, then the air fryer is used for the toppings and cooking the pizza.

Job well done and so delicious.

If you don’t have both the instant pot pressure cooker and the air fryer, then I highly recommend you have both as they are equally useful for day to day cooking.

Why Make An Instant Pot Air Fryer Cauliflower Crust?

  • You don’t need a food processor
  • Total cook time of the pizza and making the pizza crust is JUST 12 minutes
  • The air fryer makes the crust so crispy!
  • Less washing up

What Is Cauliflower Pizza Crust?

Cauliflower pizza crust is a healthier alternative to a classic pizza dough. Instead of using flour to make the dough a combination of cauliflower, cheese and egg is used.

It has become popular since many people switched to the paleo diet over the last decade. It has now become very popular among many dieters that avoid flour.

Instant Pot Cauliflower Crust

Let’s talk first about the instant pot cauliflower crust. If you have ever followed Paleo or Keto, the chances are you will have put yourself through making your own cauliflower pizza crust at home.

Let me guess….

You followed a cauliflower crust recipe that you found online and you put a cauliflower in the food processor until you almost broke it, then you had to do it in several batches and then you removed the moisture.

Then you mixed the ingredients and then it was time to oven bake the cauliflower pizza crust.

After this point, if you have still got some sanity left, added pizza toppings and you were finally DONE.

Talk about time consuming and hard work!

Do it in the instant pot and you can cut some corners (sorry not all). You don’t have to use a food processor at all as the cauliflower is cooked first, but you do have to squeeze out the liquid from the cauliflower.

You dump the cauliflower into the instant pot, squeeze when cool enough to touch and then make into a pizza dough with extra ingredients.

The time to make it is reduced by a lot and thankfully no annoying food processor to clean!

Air Fryer Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Once you have your amazing cauliflower pizza crust dough, it can be rolled out onto a pizza tray and your toppings can be added.

Then the air fryer works its MAGIC and makes your cauliflower crust crispy and taste as good as a real everyday pizza.

Because I have the Philips Air Fryer XXL I bought this pizza tray accessory. I can then add the pizza dough directly onto it and cook the pizza in the air fryer.

Or if you have the air fryer oven you can load it onto one of the trays.

Cauliflower Pizza Crust Ingredients

There is not a lot of ingredients to make cauliflower pizza crust.

Two large cauliflowers are a MUST because once you have removed the excess liquid you are often left with a small pizza dough ball.

As well as cauliflower your dough is mixed with cheese and egg to combine.

Beyond this, it comes down to your favourite pizza toppings.

Ninja Foodi & Crisplid Pizza Crust

Or if you don’t have an air fryer but have a crisplid this is another way you could cook an air fryer cauliflower cheese pizza.

Simply use the steam option for cooking the cauliflower and then use the crisplid for the cooking of the pizza.

In the Milner house we currently have this Mealthy Crisplid which attaches onto most instant pots.

How Healthy Is Cauliflower Pizza Crust?

That would depend on what you consider to be healthy. Some people would consider a healthy pizza to be one that is free of flour, whilst someone else would consider it to be a pizza that is free of cheese.

In a nutshell our cauliflower pizza crust is:

  • Gluten Free
  • Keto Friendly
  • Low Carb
  • Flourless
  • Diabetic Friendly

Can You Make Cauliflower Pizza Crust Ahead Of Time?

Yes you can. If you want to do this I recommend you follow our instant pot cauliflower pizza crust recipe first, then fridge the pizza dough for later.

Then when you are ready to cook your cauliflower pizza, load it into the air fryer with its pizza toppings.

Can You Freeze Cauliflower Pizza Crust?

Absolutely! Keep your pizza dough in a ball and cover in cling film and load into the freezer. Though wait until it is completely cool to stop any condensation.

Why Is My Cauliflower Pizza Crust Soggy?

This usually occurs when your cauliflower pizza has been cooked at a temperature that is too low or if you have not squeezed enough liquid from the cauliflower prior to making the dough.

Though 90% of the time it is because enough time was not spent on removing the liquid.

Beyond A Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Welcome to my flourless best ever Mediterranean broccoli pizza.

What you might not be aware of, is that you can use other vegetables as a base for a hidden veggies pizza crust.

My all time favourite is a pizza crust that is made from broccoli and carrots come at a close second.

The reason for this is that cauliflower holds rather a lot of water and its much quicker to squeeze the liquid and make a crust from carrots or broccoli than it is cauliflower.

For example, see my two pizza dough balls below:

Cauliflower Pizza Crust Vs Broccoli Pizza Crust

The broccoli and cauliflower were cooked in equal amounts but look at how much more broccoli pizza crust you can make for the same amount of money.

All you need to know to switch veggies is to make sure you don’t use a vegetable that is high water and you make it with cheese and egg in the same way as a cauliflower pizza crust.

Can’t make it now? Then pin it for later!

Thanks for the heads up. It should be working now as we are transfering onto TLS protocol for our website so there might be a few issues along the way.
