Reheating Chinese Food

After sharing with you how to reheat ribs in the air fryer yesterday, I realised I had left you without the bigger piece of the puzzle.

And that is reheating your other Chinese food in the air fryer.

I don’t know about you, but its very easy to order too much on your Chinese takeaway.

I blame the takeaways for this. Whilst I would love a little seaweed I end up with a big box and with only me eating the rice, I would rather have a quarter of the portion they send me.

And then when it comes to crispy duck and pancakes, you order extra pancakes and extra hoisin sauce, because the portion size for pancakes never matches the portion size for shredded duck.

I am now lucky enough to have a Chinese takeout (voted the best in my town) about 30 steps away from my front door and wanted to buy loads of Chinese food, to test for you how it reheats in the air fryer and then you can do the same with your Chinese leftovers in your air fryer.

Can You Reheat Chinese Food In An Air Fryer?

Yes, you can reheat Chinese food in the air fryer. There are so many different Chinese foods that you reheat in the air fryer.

But of course, the cook times are not equal to all of them, and that is why we are running through the best way to reheat different Chinese foods in the air fryer and what containers to use for best results.

Can You Reheat Fried Food In An Air Fryer?

Yes, you can. It’s easy to reheat fried food in the air fryer, then it is to cook fried food in the air fryer.

That is because many fried foods are often battered and cooking battered food in the air fryer is hard work to achieve and often creates a lot of mess.

And it is often easier to cook breaded food in the air fryer than battered.

But reheat your favourite sweet and sour chicken balls in the air fryer, or salt and pepper wings and you will be impressed with the results.

How Long Does Chinese Food Last In The Fridge?

This depends on the type of Chinese food you have in your fridge. The Chinese food that must be consumed the quickest is leftover rice. This must be consumed within 2 days.

Then anything containing meat or fish must be consumed in 3 days and vegetables and potatoes are good for up to 4 days.

Therefore, you can keep your salt and pepper chips in the fridge for 4 days, your fried rice for 2 days and your sweet and sour chicken balls for 3 days.

Though, I do prefer to consume all my leftover Chinese food within 2 days.

Leftover Chinese Food

Leftover Chinese Food

For our experiment of reheating Chinese food, we have the following leftovers to air fry:

  • Salt & Pepper Chips
  • Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings
  • Prawn Toast
  • Egg Fried Rice
  • Spring Rolls
  • Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls
  • Chinese Spare Ribs
  • Duck & Pancakes

You might have something similar, and then you can follow the cook times and temps and have your own leftover Chinese dinner.

Of course, we bought a lot of extra Chinese just so that we can show you how to reheat Chinese food in the air fryer. Normally we only have a tiny bit leftover!

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used to reheat Chinese food it has just been our Cosori air fryer and Philips Air Fryer XL. We used both because they can be sat next to each other, reheating at the same time, so that no food went cold.

Plus, we recommend you head over to our air fryer recipes category as we have more than 500 tried and tested air fryer recipes and have been air frying for 10 years.

Reheat Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings

Reheat Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings

We started by reheating our salt and pepper chicken wings. Because we had a mix of leftover wings and chips, we mixed them together and added them to the air fryer basket.

This turned it into a bit of a stir fry and the flavours combined were delicious.

  • Temperature: 160c/320f
  • Cook Time: 6 Minutes

Reheat Prawn Toast

Reheat Prawn Toast

If you have not tried reheating prawn toast in air fryer yet, then you MUST as its much better than the microwave. A natural crisp to it, lovely flavour and perfect for serving with your other Chinese food.

  • Temperature: 160c/320f
  • Cook Time: 3 Minutes

Reheat Egg Fried Rice

Reheat Egg Fried Rice

The best way to reheat egg fried rice in the air fryer is a ramekin with some butter. This stops the rice from drying out and also butter makes everything taste amazing.

You can also do a pot just for one or do a larger portion. But remember you can only reheat rice once, so only do enough for you right now.

Do check out our reheat rice in air fryer for some more options.

  • Temperature: 160c/320f
  • Cook Time: 4 Minutes

Reheat Spring Rolls

Reheat Spring Rolls

We also doubled up the air fryer basket and reheated spring rolls and reheated sweet and sour chicken at the same time.

They are a similar size, and you can do the same with other Chinese appetizers too. Depending on what you have leftover.

  • Temperature: 160c/320f
  • Cook Time: 5 Minutes

Reheat Chinese Spare Ribs

Reheat Chinese Spare Ribs

We also had a batch of Chinese spare ribs, the problem here is that they are loaded in Chinese sauce and I don’t want to dirty my air fryer.

What I did was load the spare ribs into a silicone container and then air fried. It is then just a wipe clean of the container.

  • Temperature: 180c/320f
  • Cook Time: 6 Minutes

Do check out our reheat ribs in air fryer for some more options.

Reheat Crispy Duck & Pancakes

Reheat Crispy Duck & Pancakes

Then last we reheated our crispy duck and pancakes in the air fryer. I placed the shredded duck into a silicone mould again and then sprayed it with extra virgin olive oil to help make it nice and crispy again.

  • Temperature: 160c/320f
  • Cook Time: 3 Minutes

Then after this I loaded up the pancakes (note the air fryer is hot due to all this food being cooked so doesn’t need long) and cooked them for 1 minute at 120c/250f.

I now had a massive Chinese dinner for the five of us, with all this yummy Chinese food.

And now you know how to reheat Chinese food in the air fryer, I am sure you are licking your lips with ideas.

How Long To Reheat Chinese Food In Air Fryer?

The cook time for reheating Chinese food can vary depending on what you are reheating.

Notes

Leftovers. Note that we had a big pile of leftovers and above we have included everything we reheated in the air fryer. Your leftovers are probably different to ours.
Nutrition. With so many different Chinese recipes we decided to not put nutrition info on these recipes.
Order. What you see above is the order in which we reheated our leftovers. We also used two air fryers, but you can do it with just one air fryer.
Spray – Spraying with extra virgin olive oil is 100% optional. I find that you get a light crisp on your leftovers without, but you might prefer them more crispy than we do.

I love crispy Chinese anyway but this was out of this world, it really did not taste like a reheat Chinese. So crispy and hot thanks for the directions, i was scared of burning it.
