Lamb Leg Steaks
Yesterday on the blog I shared with you my love for air fryer lamb chops, and that I went on the train with Sofia to visit my favourite butchers because their lamb and other meat is amazing.
What I didn’t tell you, was that whilst there and looking at their amazing window display, I purchased some lean lamb leg steaks.
And said to Sofia, that we better get some lamb steak to cook at home later in the air fryer.
We headed home and as it was late, saved the lamb leg steaks for lunch the following day. Cooked with fresh mint and an easy lamb steak marinade, the lamb leg steaks were amazing.
And today, I am so excited to share with you tender lamb leg steaks cooked in the air fryer.

Can You Air Fry Lamb?
I get asked a LOT if you can air fry lamb and may answer is always a big fat YES.
Lamb is amazing cooked in the air fryer, and you will love how hassle free it is and how tender and juicy air fryer lamb becomes.
You don’t have to be a skilled chef to cook lamb in the air fryer, as often recipes are as simple as dumping a few ingredients together.
Can You Air Fry Lamb Steaks?
Yes, you can. Just like other steaks, lamb steak in the air fryer is juicy, tender, never tough and makes you wish you cooked air fryer lamb steaks more often.
My chef husband always calls it the best lamb steak recipe he has ever tried and will often smile like a Cheshire cat when he finds out I have bought some lamb steaks from the butchers.
Why Are Lamb Steaks Tough?
Lamb leg steaks shouldn’t be tough. In fact, they should melt in your mouth just like air fryer ribeye steak or air fryer rump steak does.
Usually if your lamb steaks are tough, it is because you have either cooked them at too high a temperature (a big beginner air fryer mistake) or it’s a much cheaper cut of lamb steak and is meant for slow cooking, just like how you treat braising steak.
How To Cook Lamb Steaks So That They Are Tender?
The best way to cook lamb steaks so that they are tender, is to use the air fryer and opt for a better lamb steak cut.
The best I have found for the air fryer, is either lamb rump steaks, or lamb leg steaks.
Then make sure you marinate the lamb steaks first as it adds flavour and helps them become even more tender.
How To Marinate Lamb Leg Steaks?
I recommend for a quick marinade method for your lamb leg steaks, is to mix your marinade ingredients in a small bowl and then spoon on your lamb steak seasoning.
Then place your lamb steaks on a chopping board in the fridge for an hour and it will help marinade them.
Then once you are ready, air fry your lamb steaks with its delicious marinade.
Lamb Steak Recipe Ingredients
Lamb – I recommend using either lamb leg steaks or lamb rump steaks. You want to avoid the air fryer from smoking and using a fattier cut of lamb can cause this. Plus a fatty cut is not going to be as tender once cooked.
Garlic – This lamb steak recipe tastes amazing because of the garlic. But there is a fantastic cheat option and that is to use frozen chopped garlic.
Honey – Then I recommend you use honey that you can mix with the garlic as it gives a lovely Mediterranean style flavour.
Mix – Then to mix your marinade, we include extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice. It helps create a creamy but not overly wet marinade with the garlic and honey.
Mint – Then because minted lamb steaks are the best, we add in some fresh mint to the marinade and also use some extra fresh mint for decorating the air fryer basket with.
Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this air fryer lamb steak recipe it has just been our Cosori Air Fryer. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of air fryer recipes.
Plus, we recommend you head over to our air fryer recipes category as we have more than 500 tried and tested air fryer recipes and have been air frying for 10 years.
How To Cook Lamb Steaks In Air Fryer?

- Cook. Then load the air fryer lamb leg steaks into the air fryer basket and cook for 10 minutes.
- Finish. Serve with your favourite steak sides and enjoy!
And I am sure you can see now how easy it is cooking lamb steaks in an air fryer and why you should be doing it too!
How Long To Cook Lamb Steaks In Air Fryer?
The lamb steak air fryer time is JUST 10 minutes. This produces air fryer lamb leg steak that is perfectly cooked to a medium.
If you like your lamb steak to be well done, then I recommend adjusting the time to 13 minutes.
Whilst the recommended lamb steak time is 10 minutes, the lamb steak temperature is best at 180c/360f for an even cook and without your steak getting tough or going dry.
Even though its tempting to cook steak at 200c/400f it does result in tough steak.
Lamb Steak Air Fryer Tips & Tricks
- I recommend marinating your lamb steak before cooking in the air fryer. It makes such a big difference to the texture and taste and well worth the effort.
- You can use this same marinade on lamb chops, lamb ribs, lamb burgers and many other of your favourite lamb dishes.
- Try to buy lamb rump steak or lamb leg steaks as they make the best lamb steak in the air fryer.
- You can also reheat steak in the air fryer, and leftover steak air fried is amazing.
Interesting Air Fryer Trick – You could also cook less steak and cook chips at the same time for a yummy air fryer steak and chips dinner. Place chips on one side of the air fryer basket and chips on the other.

Why do nearly all recipes all ask for Olive oil when I cannot stand the taste or even the smell of Olive oil.
Hi Peter,
You can use some vegetable oil if you would like or any kind of oil spray, it really doesn’t matter if you do not like olive oil we do like olive oil and this is why we use it 🙂
I don’t like olive oil so use grated dripping.
I love my lamb and i was wondering if there was a thing like a lamb steak and asked my butchers and got some, i followed your instructions and they were delicious many thanks.
