Steak And Chips
If you live in Europe, then there is a good chance that you grew up on Steak and Fries. Or maybe your mum wanted it to sound really posh, so she would use the Belgian and French wording of Steak Frites.
Or if you grew up in the UK (like me) then you probably called it good old steak and chips.
I was very lucky growing up and thanks to family holidays I had the chance to try it in the UK, Spain, Portugal and France. Though it was always the nicest when we had it in France.
You would always get a piece of rump steak with some garlic butter and a side portion of French Fries.
You could then add on extra sides that you wanted. Often this would be onion rings or fried tomatoes. I loved both of them and it was too hard to choose a favourite.
Can You Cook Meat And Chips Together In Air Fryer?
Yes, you sure can cook meat and chips together in an air fryer. Just think of any of your favourite meat and chips combos and then imagine them in the air fryer.
Our favourite two is air fryer sausage and chips and of course, air fryer steak and chips!
Can I Cook Meat And Potatoes At The Same Time In An Air Fryer?
Yes, you can air fry meat and potatoes at the same time in the air fryer. If you have a dual air fryer (we have two of these models) you can do the meat in one drawer, whilst you do potatoes in the other and use the match or sync features. Or with the basket air fryer you could put the meat either over the potatoes or to the side of it. Or with the air fryer oven we like to do it like a classic traybake.
For example, our air fryer steak bites and potatoes. Where we chop the steak into chunks and cook it at the same time as delicious chunks of potatoes.
Should I Sear Steak Before Air Fryer?
No need to sear steak before air frying, because the air fryer does the searing for you and works as a pan.
Ninja Foodi Steak And Chips
For Ninja Foodi steak and chips the system is the same as an air fryer basket, you just cook the potatoes for a little while first as the chips take longer than the steak. Then add the steak on top and then finish it off.
Ninja Air Fryer Steak And Chips
If you have a Ninja Air Fryer, then you will love a Ninja Air Fryer steak and chips. One drawer does the chips and the other does the steak. You then use the sync feature so that both will be ready at the same time.
Steak And Chips Recipe Ingredients
Steak – We used sirloin steak for our steak and chips in air fryer, but you can use any such as ribeye, rump, New York strip etc. Don’t place the steaks on top of each other and in an average sized air fryer you can usually fit two medium 6oz steaks over your chips.
Potatoes – For the best steak and chips in air fryer we recommend that you prepare the chips first and then give them a partial cook. This is because the potatoes have a longer cooking time on them compared to the steak.
Oil. Whilst steak doesn’t require any oil the chips do. We recommend a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil.
Seasoning. Then for seasoning your sirloin steak and chips, lets start with your sirloin steak. We recommend salt, pepper, garlic powder and some steak seasoning. Or you can keep it simple with just some salt and pepper. For the chips we added salt, pepper, and dried parsley.
Garlic Butter. Of course, the garlic butter is a nice added extra to the steak but not essential if you are on a diet. For the garlic butter we used butter, dried parsley and garlic puree and mixed them together. Then added them to the steak a minute for the end of the cooking time.
Steak, egg and chips – add a fried egg to your steak and chips and follow our air fryer fried egg recipe from the complete air fryer cookbook.
Steak, chips and peppercorn sauce – I am a HUGE fan of steak with peppercorn sauce. Its so good and you can add the sauce to a ramekin and warm it up in the air fryer. Or why not make our peppercorn sauce without cream, for a healthier version of air fryer steak and chips?
Can You Recommend An Air Fryer?
I often get asked which air fryers I recommend and which one I use. In 95% of our air fryer recipes, we use either the Philips Air Fryer XL or the Cosori XL because they are the best ones, we have found out of many air fryers we have tried over the years. You can click on the links above and read up on them. But if you would rather have a dual air fryer we recommend this Ninja Dual (make sure you order the right one as not all are good) or the Philips Dual.
How Do I Cook Steak And Chips Together In An Air Fryer?
- Prep. Start by peeling your potatoes and chopping them into chips. Add the chips to a bowl with oil and parsley and mix well with your hands. They are now ready for the air fryer.
- Tip. Next tip the chips into the air fryer basket and spread them out. Air fry the chips for 12 minutes at 180c/360f or until fork tender.
- Shake. Next shake the chips in the air fryer basket and place the steak over the chips. Season the steaks. Note that the juices from the steak will make the chips taste even better.
- Cook. Air fry the steak and chips together for a further 4 minutes, then flip the steak, season again and cook for another 4 minutes.
- Optional. If you would like your chips more crispy, then remove the steaks and allow them to rest whilst you cook the chips for an extra 5 minutes at 200c/400f.
And I am sure you can see now how easy it is to cook homemade steak and chips in air fryer and why you should be doing it too!
How To Cook Steak And Frozen Chips In Air Fryer?
If you would like to make this steak and chips recipe with frozen chips then you can do this too.
We would recommend you follow our air fryer frozen steak fries recipe and then 8 minutes before the end of the cooking time you add the steak, like we have done with our homemade version.
How Long To Cook Steak And Chips In Air Fryer?
For our steak and chips in air fryer recipe the cooking time depends on if you want your chips extra crispy. Usually, the air fryer steak and chips time is 20 minutes. Which includes a 12 minute chips head start followed by 8 minutes for your medium rare sirloin steaks.
Sam & Doms Top Tips For Success
We recommend that you cook your chips first and then add the steak on top of your chips, or to the side if using a dual air fryer.
The chips for example will take much longer to cook and you don’t want the steak hanging around.
