Frozen chicken nuggets must be one of my guilty pleasures. We all have that comfort food that we don’t admit to eating and frozen chicken nuggets is one of mine.
I blame a lack of frozen chicken nuggets as a kid. You would go around to your friend’s house for dinner when at school and you always compared notes with what they got compared to what you got.
I would often get Heinz pasta in a can. Macaroni cheese, spaghetti Bolognese, spaghetti hoops and other similar ones with a slice or two of cucumber and a little bit of grated cheese on top.
Dominic would get similar but call me posh as he got the cheap version of Heinz!
My friend Louise had lots of canned soup going on. My favourite was Oxtail Soup and her dad (who knew I was addicted to cheese) would serve it up with cheese on toast. I’m just getting hungry thinking about it.
But my friend Sara had the best food. Her mum would cook sausages in the deep fat fryer with fries and they were oh so good.
I never got anything like this at home and I certainly didn’t get dinner out of the fat fryer! Yet Sara was always so skinny compared to me and still is!
Nowadays so many families serve up chicken nuggets and chips to their kids for dinner when they come home from school.
It is normally frozen chicken nuggets that are thrown in the deep fat fryer, paired with some chips. There may be peas or beans on the side to go with them.
But the deep fat fryer is so fattening, and the air fryer can provide much better results for your frozen chicken nuggets.
Can You Cook Frozen Chicken Nuggets In An Air Fryer?
Yes you can. Frozen chicken nuggets are ideal for the air fryer. They cook perfectly without being dry, they have a crispy coating. But without the need for the deep fat fryer.
Think the calories of oven baked chicken nuggets for the texture of deep fried chicken nuggets.

We love to cook frozen chicken breast nuggets. But what is wonderful about the air fryer is that you can use any.

- Remove frozen chicken nuggets from the packaging.
- Place into the air fryer basket.
- Air fry + serve.
There is a little more to it than that, but those are the simple basics!
How Long To Cook Frozen Chicken Nuggets In Air Fryer?
The frozen chicken nuggets air fryer time is JUST 8 minutes. Can you believe that? The idea that chicken nuggets can be cooked from frozen in JUST 8 short minutes. I think it is amazing and even my chef husband is shocked and looks at me and wants to question whether they are cooked or not!
What Temperature To Air Fry Chicken Nuggets?
The ideal temperature for air fryer chicken nuggets is 180c/360f. This ensures that the chicken nuggets are piping hot and that you have a crispy crunch on the chicken nuggets.
I am very fussy when it comes to frozen chicken nuggets. I simply, won’t buy any chicken nuggets and they must taste good. I hate them from nearly all fast food establishments apart from McDonalds and I blame Jamie Oliver for that.
I remember watching Jamie Oliver when he was trying to solve childhood obesity in the US and he showed a group of children the rubbish that goes into frozen chicken nuggets. How it is all the leftover rubbish from the chicken carcass and highly processed and very bad for you.
After that McDonalds stepped up their game and improved their chicken nuggets recipe. Out went the rubbish and in came chicken nuggets made from real chicken breasts.
We often have them as a frugal alternative for lunch. A big box of 20 chicken nuggets and 2 fries is enough to feed the 4 of us for lunch when we are out shopping.
Frozen Chicken Nuggets + Ranch Dipping Sauce
Frozen chicken nuggets taste even better if you make a quick ranch dipping sauce to dip in. Making your own ranch dipping sauce is so quick that you can make it, have a sit down, all before the air fryer beeps after its 8 minutes!
I make ranch dipping sauce for my frozen chicken nuggets by mixing:
- Dried dill
- Greek yoghurt
- Garlic puree
Just 3 simple ingredients that most families will have in and won’t need to go grocery shopping to source the ingredients.

Recipe Ingredients:
- Pack Frozen Chicken Nuggets
- ¼ Tsp Garlic Puree
- 1 Tbsp Dried Dill
- 5 Tbsp Greek Yoghurt
Instructions
- Place the frozen chicken nuggets into your air fryer basket.
- Cook for 8 minutes at 180c/360f.
- Make the ranch sauce. Mix together in a small bowl the Greek yoghurt, dried dill and garlic. Serve warm with your ranch sauce.

Do I need to turn nuggets over in 4 mins.? Since nuggets are frozen premade, no oil necessary?
Hi Mel,
Its personal choice. They can be more crispy if you turn them. Just like they can be crispier if you spray with a little olive oil.
Yes chicken nuggets that my children can cook, thank you and they do not come out burnt!
Yes i turned mine half way through just to make sure, i think it is really dependent on which air fryer you have and how much it cooks the food from the bottom. Mine came out quite crispy.
