Chicken Sausage In Air Fryer
Us Milner’s have been using the air fryer since 2011 and one of the biggest shocks has always been how much the air fryer can smoke when cooking sausages.
But it was also a good thing, as it made us realise, that the sausages we were air frying back then were very cheap, full of fat and really not very good for us. Yes, I am talking to you Richmond sausages.
We soon swapped them for butcher sausages and the smoke stopped. We then made air fryer frozen sausages, air fryer sausages (using thawed sausages), air fryer sausages and peppers and air fryer sausages and chips for you, all of which are equally delicious.
But what we learnt from living in Portugal for 12 years, is that they make the best chicken and turkey sausages. They are lean, therefore don’t smoke and taste amazing.
We will usually have them for lunch with some instant pot cabbage for a quick lunch for two.
We grabbed a pack of their chicken sausages with the plan of showing you how to cook chicken sausages in the air fryer.
Best Way To Cook Chicken Sausage Links?
I have found that the best way to cook chicken sausage links is in the air fryer. I love that the air fryer has the same set and forget principles of a microwave but makes your food ultra crispy too.
You can load chicken sausages into the air fryer and then come back when it beeps to perfectly cooked chicken sausages.
Plus, as mentioned above I love to pair them with instant pot buttered cabbage and will have the air fryer cooking the sausage and the instant pot cooking the cabbage at the same time for a quick healthy lunch.
Can You Air Fry Turkey Sausage?
Yes, you can! The same rules apply to turkey sausage as they do to chicken sausage in the air fryer. As chicken and turkey have a similar fat level and texture, you can use either turkey sausages or chicken sausages in this air fryer recipe.
Even better, I find that turkey sausages are on deals and incredibly cheap after Thanksgiving or Christmas. What I will do is bulk buy turkey sausages, freeze them and then defrost them as I want them.
What Is Air Fried Chicken Sausage Like?
When you cook chicken sausage in the air fryer, they are like chicken sausage that you have cooked on the grill, or in the frying pan, just with less fat.
Any fat in the sausages will fall into the bottom of the air fryer, making your chicken sausages even leaner.
But what I like most about chicken sausages is that they taste like they have been deep fried and have a wonderful crisp to them, just without the high calories.
How To Cook Chicken Sausage In Air Fryer?
This is how to cook chicken sausages using the air fryer:

Like mentioned above turkey sausages in air fryer, is the same as cooking chicken sausages. The shape might alter, but the cooking times and temperature generally stays the same.
You can also follow our air fryer chicken or turkey sausage recipe for vegan sausages, vegetarian sausages, or even a thin cut of pork sausages.
How Long Do Chicken Sausages Take To Cook?
We recommend that you follow a chicken sausage cook time of JUST 16 minutes. This includes a 12 minute cook time to get your air fryer chicken sausages cooked, followed by a shorter cook time of 4 minutes for getting your sausages nice and crispy.
What Temp For Chicken Sausage?
The recommended chicken sausage cook temp is 180c/360f for cooking your chicken sausages, followed by a higher temperature of 200c/400f to crisp them up.
This is what I call my dual air fryer temperature. Where you are starting lower, then increasing the temperature to finish off your air fryer recipe.
