Air Fryer Italian Sausage & Peppers
If you have read the air fryer recipes at Recipe This for a while, you will know I like easy recipes and that I have been having a love affair with sausages in the air fryer for some time now.
I have already shared with you how to cook air fryer sausage and chips, air fryer frozen sausage links, air fryer sausage rolls and kept it simple with air fryer sausage.
For today, I am going low carb with delicious Italian sausages that I bought from my local butcher, along with mixed bell peppers.
One of the greatest things of living in Portugal, is the easy access to Mediterranean cuisine.
I am always complaining how difficult it is to source certain American foods, but that is often forgotten when I have amazing Italian sausages in my hand.
My thing for the air fryer, when I am just cooking for myself for a breakfast or brunch treat, is let’s load it all in together and get excited when it beeps, and you know your food is ready.
My favourites will involve hardly any prep, a quick season and then DONE and that is why I am such a big fan of air fryer Italian sausages and peppers.
Italian Sausage In The Air Fryer
One of the biggest early mistakes I made with the air fryer, was the type of sausage links that I was cooking in it.
They were what used to be my favourite brand of sausages which back then was Richmond.
I didn’t know any better and I didn’t know that they were way higher in fat content compared to other sausages. These were terrible for our diet as well as terrible for our air fryer.
This is because the high fat means that it makes the air fryer very smoky and will set off your fire alarms.
Fast forward a few years and the Butchers sausages that I had always refused to buy for being too expensive were reduced in price.
I bought the lot and that was my first introduction to Italian sausages as well as several different types of British sausages.
Cooked in the air fryer, Italian sausages never got smoky and I started batch buying them each time they were on clearance and loading them into the air fryer from frozen whenever I wanted to cook with them.
Can I Cook Italian Sausage In An Air Fryer?
Absolutely! Like I mentioned above, because Italian sausage is less fatty compared to cheap sausages, it cooks perfectly in any air fryer.
You could cook Italian sausages in the air fryer for one or make a big batch of them in the air fryer oven.
At Christmas, it is the Milner family tradition to have sausage sandwiches in the air fryer and it is nearly always with the use of Italian sausages.
Air Fryer Sausage Peppers And Onions
I am a fan of air fryer sausages and peppers and of air fryer sausage peppers and onions.
If you would like to use our recipe today for sausage and peppers and add in sausages, then it is easy to do so.

Air Fryer Frozen Italian Sausages
When I made these Italian sausages and peppers for you, I started off with frozen Italian sausages. They were so frozen as you can see below that they were stuck together:
A quick defrost is all that is needed for the Italian sausages, they separate well, and you can then load up your peppers and air fry.
How Do You Cook Italian Sausage In An Air Fryer?
Cooking air fryer Italian sausages is lazy and here are the simple steps to follow:
- Load your frozen Italian sausages into the air fryer basket and do a quick defrost.
- Separate the sausages, add in mixed peppers and onions along with seasonings.
- Load back into your air fryer basket and cook thoroughly.
How Long Do You Cook Italian Sausage?
Cooking Italian sausage in the air fryer is JUST 20 minutes. Even better, this is using frozen Italian sausages and includes the defrosting process.
The prep time for these sausages and peppers is just a few short minutes too making it great for weekday breakfasts when you are in a hurry. Or maybe a lazy brunch on a Sunday?
