I mentioned yesterday in our slow cooker chicken wings recipe, the Milner family tradition and how much we love wings for an easy Saturday night supper.

Well, I always say my hubby loves them, but not as much as these slow cooker drumsticks.

You will never see Dominic purposely ordering some wings, or choosing chicken wings at a buffet.

And the reason?

He always mentions what a chicken fan he is and how wings hardly have any meat on them, compared to what you get with chicken drumsticks.

Put the exact same marinade, and the exact same seasoning on chicken drumsticks and he will binge on them.

If you want a change from chicken wings, then these chicken drumsticks are JUST as good, have a similar cook time and a similar method.

Plus, you could mix it up and do slow cooker chicken thighs and drumsticks together if you prefer.

Can You Cook Drumsticks In A Slow Cooker?

Yes, you can. You can cook chicken drumsticks in any brand of slow cooker, even the Crockpot.

We regularly load up chicken drumsticks into the slow cooker for something simple to eat.

Can I Cook Chicken Drumsticks From Frozen?

Yes, but not in a slow cooker. The internal temperature of chicken drumsticks doesn’t get hot enough to fight off the bad bacteria that causes food poisoning.

However, it does in the instant pot. I recommend if yours are frozen that you cook our instant pot frozen chicken drumsticks instead.

Please promise me you wont make slow cooker frozen chicken drumsticks and don’t listen to those that are not qualified to give out proper advice on the topic, as there are many that will tell you otherwise.

Plain Chicken Drumsticks In Slow Cooker

The easiest way to make Crockpot drumsticks is to make plain ones. All this is what I call Dominic’s chicken drumsticks that he makes for me.

They are not plain as in flavourless but plain as in no barbecue sauce or marinade.

They are made just as they sound.

You load chicken drumsticks into the slow cooker, season with salt, pepper and something else that is simple such as tarragon or Italian seasoning and then mix them to make sure they are well cooked.

Then you slow cook.

That is it!

And OMG plain chicken drumsticks in the slow cooker are perfect for something quick to do with them and come out juicy and yummy.

Plain Chicken Drumsticks In Slow Cooker On Low

If you want to do plain drumsticks on low, then the method is the same it’s just a longer cook time.

You are swapping 4 hours on high for 7 hours on low.

Barbecue Chicken Drumsticks

Then the next method to learn to cook in your slow cooker, is barbecue chicken drumsticks.

Simply make plain and then after cooking, toss the chicken drumsticks in barbecue sauce.

You then have that traditional sticky texture.

Or if you love honey, you can add honey and make slow cooker honey bbq chicken drumsticks.

Or mix it up with some Asian seasoning for slow cooker Asian chicken drumsticks.

Slow Cooker Chicken Drumsticks Recipe Ingredients

Chicken – To get started with the ingredients its all about the drumsticks. You can go with cheap supermarket drumsticks or chop up some drumsticks. I love to get a special price for chicken legs then chop into drumsticks and thighs for a couple of different meals.

Marinade – In this Crockpot drumsticks recipe, I am using a sachet of Blue Dragon oyster and spring onion sauce. Its fantastic for on drumsticks and you can also use extra spring onion for extra flavour.

Seasoning – For seasoning we used salt, pepper, Chinese five spice, ginger, and garlic.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this slow cooker chicken drumsticks recipe, it has just been our Crockpot. We have this one and it does an amazing job and is also ideal for sautéing too.

How To Make Your Own Drumsticks?

• Prep. The first step is to get your marinade and seasoning ingredients together and load them into the slow cooker. Give them a mix and they are ready for the drumsticks.
• Drumsticks. Add in your chicken and mix with your hands.
• Cook. Slow cook until you have tender chicken drumsticks.
• Load. Once the chicken drumsticks are done, load onto a plate for serving, or smoother in barbecue sauce.

How Long To Cook Drumsticks In Slow Cooker?

I recommend four hours on high for perfectly fall off the bone slow cooker chicken drumsticks. However, if you prefer slow cooker drumsticks that are not fall off the bone, but are just cooked, then you can opt for three hours.

Or if cooking on low, I recommend 7 hours.
