Air Fryer Shrimp Fajitas
You probably want to know what the story is behind these air fryer shrimp fajitas. After all, us Milner’s have been air frying for a decade and you probably want to know when we started this air fryer fajitas obsession.
Well, it was when I had some spare frozen shrimp. We were making a recipe for air fryer cajun shrimp and I had bought more shrimp than I needed. Along with a fridge clear out of some mixed peppers that needed using up, it become shrimp fajitas.
I then shared it in the Recipe This Facebook Group and everyone loved it and were asking me to load up the recipe and I have finally got around to doing that for you today.
Shrimp Fajitas In Air Fryer
When you cook shrimp fajitas in the air fryer, its like one of the easiest and healthiest lunches that you can cook for lunch or dinner. In fact, if you follow Keto or a low carb diet or even paleo, it would be ideal. You could even have it for a zero point blue recipe on Weight Watchers.
You are loading the shrimp fajitas ingredients directly into the air fryer basket. Then you let the air fryer work its magic and come back to perfectly cooked fajitas.
If you have not done fajitas in the air fryer before then check out our other recipes:
You can also mix and match and make chicken and shrimp fajitas or do a surf and turf.
Or I like to think of air fryer fajitas as an alternative to a stir fry but cooked in the air fryer.
What Are Shrimp Fajitas?
Shrimp fajitas (or prawn fajitas) are shrimp, onions, and peppers, cooked together with fajitas seasoning. Often referred to as cooking shrimp and vegetables.
You can mix and match seasoning depending on how spicy you would like your fajitas. You can also swap shrimp for beef, tofu, chicken, or pork.
What Spice Can I Substitute For Fajitas?
Classic fajitas seasoning will include:
- 1Tsp Chilli Powder
- 1Tsp Paprika
- 1Tsp Garlic Powder
- 1Tsp Cumin
- ½ Tsp Oregano
- Salt & Pepper
Simply load these fajitas ingredients into a bowl and mix them with your other ingredients. Often much cheaper than just buying a fajitas mix.
Frozen Shrimp Fajitas
In this recipe today I am also using frozen shrimp for the fajitas and that is what makes this air fryer recipe so special.
You see it takes me a couple of minutes (max) to prep the peppers and onions and get the fajitas seasoning out of the kitchen cupboard. Then I grab a load of frozen shrimp out of the freezer and mix everything together.
The frozen shrimp I use are already cooked, already peeled and you are just using the air fryer to reheat them.
This means they have the same cook time as the peppers and onions and means that lunch can be ready at the same time.
Plus, because the shrimp is moist because it is frozen, it means you don’t need any oil in this recipe.
You can probably see now why I am so obsessed with this shrimp fajitas recipe.
How To Make Shrimp Fajitas?
Cooking shrimp fajitas in air fryer is one of the EASIEST EVER air fryer recipes.
- Peel and slice your onion.
- Slice your peppers.
- Toss in a bowl with your air fryer seasoning.
- Air fry + enjoy.
There is a little bit more to air fryer sweet potato cubes, but that is the basics.
Air Fryer Shrimp For Tacos
You can also use this recipe for making shrimp for tacos. Simply follow the shrimp recipe and then load into tacos and you have taco night in the air fryer. Even better, before you start air frying your shrimp fajitas, use the air fryer to warm up your tacos.
What Goes With Shrimp Fajitas?
My favourite way to enjoy shrimp fajitas is on their own as a light meal. The air fryer makes a LOT of fajitas at once and for a meal for one its perfect.
But if I were feeding a family of four instead, I would warm up some tacos and serve the shrimp in tacos. Then serve with our instant pot frozen ribs and our air fryer potato wedges. Then it would make a wonderful supper of tacos and ribs and wedges.
Air Fryer Shrimp Recipes
I love cooking shrimp in the air fryer, and I am not the only one. My youngest son Jorge when he was two would say “mummy please me have prawns” and then get excited and get them from the freezer for me and would always add the seasoning.
But that is not the only way that Jorge loves his shrimp and here are a few other air fryer shrimp recipe ideas:
- Air Fryer Breaded Shrimp
- Air Fryer Shrimp Scampi
- Air Fryer Cajun Shrimp
- Air Fryer Frozen Breaded Shrimp
- Air Fryer Frozen Popcorn Shrimp
