Hummus Dip

Whether like me you call it hummus or have another name for it such as hommos or houmous, it is delicious creamy dip for making in your Thermomix.

I first came across hummus, with its houmous spelling back in the 90’s whilst on holiday in the Greek Island of Skiathos.

Served the traditional way with plenty of garlic and wide pita bread for serving it with, it soon became a favourite of mine.

Now whenever I am in the supermarket and they have some hummus dips on reduced price, I am there buying them and having them at home a healthier way with some carrot sticks and celery sticks.

Today, I wanted to share with you a fast way to make hummus using the Thermomix. The Thermomix can cook the garlic, mix the ingredients and then create the creamiest hummus dip you have ever tried.

Why Is Hummus So Fattening?

I often hear people mentioning that if you are on Slimming World or Weight Watchers, never to order hummus from the Greek restaurant as it is far too fattening.

Well, its all about the high calories in the extra virgin olive oil along with the tahini.

Then if you bought houmous from Tesco’s you will be shocked at the oil content.

This is what makes the hummus fattening and what you can do instead, is use the Thermomix to make hummus and really chop down the calories thanks to a lot less oil in your own homemade version.

Thermomix Hummus Without Tahini

Tahini gives your hummus Thermomix recipe extra flavour, but there is no rule out there that says you MUST make hummus with it.

You could simply leave it out and have a delicious hummus dip.

Of course, it won’t be a traditional hummus recipe, but it will still taste good and have you reaching for more.

Or you can leave out tahini when you are craving hummus and realise you don’t have any in!

In our Thermomix hummus recipe, we are going for a middle ground and using half the quantity of tahini and a lot less oil.

Thermomix Garlic Hummus

I am a HUGE garlic fan and can never get enough of it. I love air fryer roasted garlic and can just eat it from it being cooked and peeled.

I also love it in a lot of different recipes and struggle to start a savoury recipe without the addition of the garlic.

No surprise that when I make Thermomix hummus, I am adding some garlic first. Using the Thermomix to chop up the garlic and then to sauté the garlic before adding in the other hummus ingredients. You can do the same and you can also sauté some onion or peppers first if you prefer.

Thermomix Hummus With Dried Chickpeas

I also love to cook dried chickpeas and have a recipe where I cook dried chickpeas without soaking them in the instant pot pressure cooker.

If you want dried chickpeas, I recommend following our instant pot chickpeas recipe first, then loading them into the Thermomix.

Why Is My Hummus Runny?

The reason your hummus is runny, is because your ratio of chickpeas to liquid is wrong.

I have made many batches of homemade hummus over the years and usually make my slimming world hummus in the soup maker and what I have found is the perfect ratio.

2 cans of chickpeas and 1 drained and 1 not drained.

Then you have the liquid from the undrained can and then you have a runny hummus, then the second drained can is added in and this makes it like a traditional thick hummus dip.

Thermomix Recipe #6

As I write this, the Thermomix is my latest kitchen gadget. It joins my air fryer, instant pot pressure cooker, slow cooker, pie maker, and soup maker, plus many others and I am looking forward to seeing how the Thermomix makes cooking even easier.

For fun I am sharing with you behind the scenes Thermomix recipes of the first 30 things I made with my new kitchen toy.

That way you can see if the Thermomix is for you and if these recipes will fit in what you like to make.

Today’s Thermomix Hummus is Thermomix recipe #6. And don’t forget to catch up with Thermomix Choc Chip Cookies (recipe #1), Thermomix Buttercream (recipe #2), Thermomix Whipped Cream (recipe #3), Thermomix Rocky Road (recipe #4) and Thermomix Playdough (recipe #5).

My thoughts on Thermomix Hummus:

It’s a rinse and repeat recipe – I took the same recipe that I have been making for years in the soup maker and it worked perfectly in the Thermomix. The greatest thing about this recipe is you can rinse and repeat and use this as your basic recipe for years to come.

Garlic is a game changer – What makes the Thermomix hommus stand out from making it with other kitchen gadgets is the garlic. You can use the Thermomix to chop and cook the garlic and this saves time and makes the process so much easier.

I love the variety – You also have the option to swap the garlic for peppers, beetroot, or even onion, depending on what extra flavours you want to add to your hummus.

But most importantly, would I recommend making hummus in the Thermomix? Yes, I would. It is easy to throw the ingredients into the Thermomix and then blend the hummus until it is perfectly smooth. Unlike many other hummus recipes that end up with lumps its so easy to get it right thanks to the Thermo.

What Is The Ingredients For Hummus?

What Is The Ingredients For Hummus

Chickpeas – To make hummus you will need 2 cans of chickpeas. This will make enough hummus for a girl’s night in. Or if I was to put it into the size of the hummus dip sold in supermarkets, I would say it was 1.5 tubs.

Tahini – I recommend 2tbsp of tahini in this hummus dip. This adds lovely flavour but is not overpowering.

Oil – Whilst extra virgin olive oil is normally a big part of hummus, I used just enough for the garlic and didn’t add any extra. I am on WW and wanted something that was low points.

Lemon – You will also need the juice of a lemon. Our lemons we used were seedless ones from Tesco’s and produced a good amount of juice. You can also adjust this depending on preference.

Garlic – The addition of garlic is an optional thing, but I prefer to include it. I used one small and one medium fresh garlic clove.

Seasonings – Then for seasonings I recommend a sprinkle of sweet paprika once it is made. Then for mixing into the hummus I recommend cumin and ground coriander. As well as a little salt and pepper.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this Thermomix hummus recipe it has just been our TM6 and its wonderful for many types of dips.

Plus, we recommend you head over to our Thermomix recipes category as we will be adding Thermomix recipes as we try new ones for you.

The manual setting is perfect for mixing and cooking at the same time. You can be setting the temperature, the time, and the speed all on one screen. Then it will beep when it is done.

We went with a speed 4 for getting the hummus Thermomix recipe going, and then up to speed 6 for making sure it is perfectly smooth.

Will Hummus Freeze?

Yes, you can freeze this hummus recipe. You can just load it into a freezer container and then add to the freezer.
