Our air fryer chocolate chip cookies are an update based on our best ever soft air fryer cookies that we originally published in the spring of 2017. It also includes extra air fryer cookie information and we hope you like our update.

Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies

Welcome to my BEST EVER soft chocolate chip cookies in the Air Fryer.

After making batch after batch of chocolate chip cookies in the Philips Air Fryer and a lot of recipe testing, we are sharing with you our best ever air fryer cookies.

These are the air fryer chocolate chip cookies that Dominic makes whenever I need that comfort food hit, whenever I am feeling down, whenever I am tired or when I just have that terrible sugar craving that just won’t go away unless there are chocolate chip cookies involved.

These are also very frugal and made from ingredients that we always in the house and saves going out and buying a bar of chocolate.

The best ever homemade cookie dough perfect for placing in the Philips Airfryer.

Our air fryer cookies only take a few short minutes to prepare, then place them in the Air Fryer on some reusable silver foil (or a baking mat) and then let the Air Fryer work its magic!

I make or Dominic makes these air fryer cookies in a glass mixing bowl with butter, coconut sugar, brown sugar, honey, cocoa powder, self raising flour, chocolate chips and milk.

Though I always make extra than the amount I plan to cook because I just can’t help eating the air fryer cookie dough. It is like a lifelong need.

Plus, you can guarantee that my 2-year-old (now 5) will chase me around the kitchen until she gets her share.

So, to make sure there is enough to go around (as you can never get too much cookie dough) I will increase my batch by 20%. Or if I am in a naughty mood it will be more like 40%.

Best to avoid the scales when it is air fryer cookie season!

I then make them into cute little cookie dough balls and then place them in the Air Fryer to cook.

I have the Philips Air Fryer XL and don’t like to over crowd so often do them in batches of four air fryer chocolate chip cookies.

After 3 rounds and I have 12 large cookies. But if you have a bigger Air Fryer or have an Air Fryer Oven then you will be able to do more at once.

I know many of my fellow Air Fryer fans have the Tefal Actifry and if you take out the centre paddle you can get a lot more in than me.

But at least if they are done in batches, I can spread out my cookie binge.

Or if you have a habit of forgetting to get your chocolate chip cookies out of the oven or you like a crunchy edge on your cookies then the Air Fryer is perfect for doing exactly that.

Can You Air Fry Cookies?

The first question I get, is whether you really can air fry cookies. And how they compare to the oven.

Well my first thought, is that air fryer cookies taste BETTER than oven baked cookies.

Firstly, how often do you get preoccupied and totally forget about your cookies and they end up doing a minute or two longer than you wanted?

Well that is us and with the air fryer cookies, your air fryer dings, you know they are done, and they are perfectly cooked.

They also have a slight crunch to the outside with that lovely melty chocolate centre.

Gluten Free Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies

I have also tested our air fryer chocolate chip cookies recipe using Bobs Red Mill. Or to be more specific, his 1 to 1 baking flour.

It was amazing and I couldn’t believe how good they turned out for those that want to remain gluten free. You can get the alternative gluten free flour we used here.

Air Fryer Cookie Sheet

When you think of cooking chocolate chip cookies in the oven, there is always a cookie sheet involved, or a sheet pan.

But you’re probably wondering what fits in the air fryer and what your best option is.

Well for us our air fryer cookie sheet, is a silicone baking mat that we cut to size. You can get one here.

Or alternatively, this is the sheet pan we have and what we do is we use it to rest our air fryer cookies on, when they have finished cooking and it is perfect for storing, with each batch of air fryer chocolate chip cookies that we make.

To follow our air fryer cookie recipe is EASY. I just use a small hand mixer and the air fryer and don’t have a Kitchen Aid Mixer as I find this overmixes the chocolate chip cookie dough and they don’t taste as good.

  • I start by mixing the butter and sugar using my hand mixer until they are nice and fluffy.
  • I add in the rest of the air fryer cookie ingredients bit by bit and use a fork to mix them so that they are not over mixed.
  • I then form cookie dough balls before adding my cookie dough balls to the air fryer for cooking.
  • Fifteen minutes in the air fryer and you have perfect air fryer chocolate chip cookies!

Though you can place your air fryer cookie balls in the freezer and freeze them for later at this point.

To do this place them on your baking sheet and allow them to semi freeze. Once they are semi frozen add them to a freezer bag and freeze for later. You do it this way to stop them sticking together.

Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies Ingredients:

  • Preheat your Air Fryer to 180c/360f.
  • Place your butter and sugars into a mixing bowl and using a hand mixer mix your fat into your sugars. Do this until it is well mixed and is light and fluffy.
  • Add the flour, honey, milk, cocoa powder and vanilla and mix well with a fork.
  • Cover your hands with flour so that the cookie mixture won’t stick wont them.
  • Roll in the chocolate chips or crushed chocolate with your hands.
  • Mix with your hands for a couple of minutes making sure everything is well coated.
  • Roll out into 12 small cookie balls.
  • Place them on a baking sheet inside your Air Fryer. Or use your air fryer grill pan.
  • Cook for 15 minutes on 180c/360f.

In the old days I always used a silicone baking sheet inside of my air fryer. This saved on any mess and then the cookies don’t stick to the air fryer basket. But I have since upgraded to an air fryer grill pan which is perfect for cookies and worth the investment.
If you have some spare chocolate in the house place it inside a sandwich bag and bash it with a rolling pin. It will then resemble chocolate chips and is a much cheaper option. My favourite chocolates for doing this with are Galaxy & Cadburys.
We used heaped tablespoons of honey because we are addicted to it. You could use less if you wish or swap it for maple syrup.

    • Hi Carol,

I think it should be ok, just make sure you have put some holes in it to let the air through and also make sure it is tied down or weighted down as the fan will suck it up and it will get stuck onto the top of the airfryer, trust me when i say it is not a great experience when it sucks things up :/

      Kind regards

  1. I’m curious to know more about using the cut up silicone baking mat. If my basket is 9×9, how large do you suggest I cut it to? Do I need to make slits in it to allow for air flow?

    • Hello Cathy,

Thank you for your question. We cut around the basket by drawing a line around it in felt tip pen and then cutting just inside the line and it fit perfectly. Yes you will need to make holes or slits init otherwise the air does not flow around it properly and will not cook the cookies 🙂

    • Hi Debrah,

Sorry to hear about your cookies. We always cut slits in our paper as it helps the air circulate better around the air fryer. Also we love gooey cookies and it is very easy to over cook things like cookies in an air fryer. Try with slits all around and make sure the air is getting through them and do not put them in for the full time after half the time see if they are cooking as expected and if they are put them back in and finish but if not try and adjust the time a bit at a a time to get them how you want 🙂
