Ninja Foodi Whole Chicken
My most cooked food ever in my air fryer is an air fryer whole chicken. Its my easy, family, go to dinner.
We are a family of five and its easy it dump a whole chicken in the air fryer, then load some vegetables into the instant pot. Or if our whole chicken is frozen, we will cook an instant pot frozen whole chicken and then do air fryer vegetables.
When I received my first Ninja Foodi last summer, my first thought was making a Ninja Foodi whole chicken.
Would a Ninja air fryer roast chicken be better, or would a Ninja pressure cooker roast chicken be best, or should I mix and match the two?
I tried many ways to cook a whole chicken in the Ninja Foodi and today, after months of experimenting and a lot of chicken eating, I am sharing with you the best.
Can You Cook Chicken In Ninja Foodi?
Yes, you can cook chicken in the Ninja Foodi and you are going to love it! Any chicken recipe that you see for an air fryer, or for a pressure cooker, or a slow cooker can be made in a Ninja Foodi.
That is because the Ninja is the best of all three and it has an air fryer function, slow cooker function, and pressure cooker function, as well as many more options for you to choose from.
How About Cooking A Ninja Whole Chicken?
Yes, you can also cook a whole chicken in the ninja foodi, and we have cooked it many times. Whether you would call it a whole chicken, rotisserie chicken, or maybe a roast chicken, it can all be done using the Ninja Foodi.
Ninja Foodi Roast Chicken – when I think about Ninja roast chicken, I will often think about a Sunday roast dinner. Roast chicken with stuffing, roast potatoes, seasonal veggies, and gravy. Well, you can cook your roast chicken in the Ninja as well as all your sides too. Try our roast chicken with ninja foodi roast potatoes for a real treat and any of our pressure cooker veggies will work in here too such as our instant pot carrots.
Ninja Foodi Rotisserie Chicken – Or if you are thinking about the Ninja as a rotisserie like when you buy a rotisserie chicken from the supermarket then it’s a similar taste. I remember trying out all the Costco flavours of rotisserie chicken in the Ninja and they all tasted amazing.
Can You Cook A Frozen Whole Chicken In Ninja Foodi?
Yes, you can cook a Ninja Foodi frozen whole chicken. When using a frozen whole chicken compared to a thawed, we would recommend following our instant pot frozen whole chicken recipe, and using the pressure cook button rather than air frying as it is easier and creates better results.
Ninja Foodi Whole Chicken & Veggies
If you would prefer to cook a Ninja Foodi roast chicken recipe and serve it with vegetables, then we recommend you check out our air fryer roast chicken dinner recipe.
In it, we show people the value of using up every last bit of space. And the art of doing the veggies at the same time as the chicken. You can then follow the idea and add the veggies to the chicken when the chicken is partly cooked and then serve them all at the same time.
Ninja Foodi Whole Chicken & Potatoes
For inspiration for your ninja air fryer whole chicken and potatoes, check out our air fryer leg of lamb where we cook a bone in leg with roasties, or our air fryer Greek lemon chicken and potatoes. Both are examples of pairing them both together.
With your Ninja simply place the potatoes in any gaps that you have and make use of the space and then you can have both the whole chicken and potatoes ready at the same time.

Whole Chicken Ninja Air Fryer Ingredients
Chicken – We used one medium whole chicken from the supermarket. It doesn’t have to be a large chicken unless you want it to be. Just remember a change in size can alter the cook time and you want to make sure it fits your air fryer size.
Oil. You will need a little oil that you can rub on the skin of the whole chicken to make it nice and crispy and to stop it from going dry.
Seasoning. This is of course personal choice as we don’t all like our whole chicken the same way. If you want to keep it simple add salt, pepper, and some dried mixed herbs.
Air Fryer Basket – Because this is a ninja air fryer roast chicken recipe we used the Ninja air fryer basket inside of the Ninja cooking pot. It’s a fantastic size for a whole chicken and fits it in perfectly.
Can You Recommend A Ninja Foodi?
I often get asked which kitchen gadgets I recommend and which one I use. For the Ninja Foodi we have this one. It doesn’t have as many bells and whistles compared to some of the newer models, but it does a great job.
We can dehydrate, air fry, pressure cook, sauté, slow cook, make yoghurt and so much more.
Plus, we recommend you head over to our ninja foodi recipes category as we have been using the Ninja Foodi since 2020 and just love it for simplicity, how delicious the recipes are when cooked in it and how much time it saves us in the kitchen. We even take the Ninja Foodi on holiday with us.

You now have ninja foodi air fryer whole chicken ready for serving for dinner.
How Long Does A Chicken Take To Cook In Ninja Air Fryer?
The cook time for a whole chicken in the Ninja Foodi can differ depending on the method of cooking that you are following.
Plus, don’t forget that the size of the chicken can alter cook times too.
From our various experiments with Ninja Foodi whole chickens, we found that:
- 60 minutes is ideal for Ninja air fryer whole chicken. With a 30 minute cook on each side.
- 30 minutes under pressure was perfect for a frozen whole chicken. Followed by 10 minutes on the air fryer lid if you wanted crispy skin.
- 25 minutes under pressure for a thawed, fresh whole chicken.
- 22 minutes pressure cooked, followed by 12 minutes with the air fryer lid if you wanted to pressure cook and then crisp up.
Though note, that we use a 1.2kg/2.6 lbs whole chicken and that your cook times will vary if you have a smaller, or a larger chicken.
For example, ninja foodi whole chicken that is 6lbs (2.7kg) has taken us 1hr 20 minutes, so 20 minutes longer.
For the Ninja air fryer whole chicken temperature we recommend 180c/360f and this will give an even cook and stop the chicken from becoming dry during the cooking process.
