Soup Maker Pumpkin Soup
Would you believe that growing up, I never even remember trying pumpkin and it wasn’t until I moved to Portugal that I bought a pumpkin and fell in love with the delicious taste of the winter vegetable.
My upbringing is probably responsible for this. My mum is a Halloween baby and because she is always getting ready for a party, the usual Halloween traditions that kids do have never been a big thing.
Then add to this the fact that I grew up in the UK where they really didn’t do Halloween and pumpkins and the whole thing had passed me by.
Back in 2015 when I originally posted our Soup Maker Pumpkin Soup, I had just enjoyed the first Halloween with my beautiful daughter Sofia.
It was less than 4 weeks before her first birthday and I was really looking forward to introducing her to the world of pumpkins.
That introduction was this creamy pumpkin and garlic soup. She got excited as the pumpkin was chopped up and it was loaded into the soup maker for her lunch and dinner that day.
Since then we make pumpkin soup all the time and love the fact that you can get pumpkin most of the year here in Portugal. We also cook pumpkin in a lot of other dishes but that is of course for another day.
Fast forward to Halloween 2021 and we are living back in England and for the first time ever (Portugal never did it) we are pumpkin picking with our little ones and getting excited over our pumpkin soup in the soup maker.

Can You Make Pumpkin Soup In A Soup Maker?
Yes, you can make pumpkin soup in the soup maker. Simply load the soup maker up with your pumpkin soup ingredients and it will do the hard work for you.
You can also make batches of your pumpkin soup and then once cold load into the freezer.
We did a lot of batch pumpkin soup because the pumpkin season is so short here in the UK and we wanted to save some for later.
How Do You Make Soup In A Soup Maker?
The process of making soup in the soup maker is so EASY. And is not like making soup the traditional way in a pan on the stove.
Instead, soup ingredients are loaded into the soup maker (including stock and seasonings) and then the soup maker mixes and cooks the soup for you.
Your soup maker then beeps when it is done, and you have creamy soup maker soup.
How Long Does Soup Take In A Soup Maker?
Some soup maker cook times can be a little different, but generally its 25 minutes to make a creamy veggie soup in the soup maker.
But what I notice is that some soup makers have a 25 minute setting, some 28 minutes and some 30 minutes. But if you cancelled the soup at 25 minutes it would most certainly be cooked.
Pumpkin Picking In York
My first inspiration for updating our soup maker pumpkin soup, was all the pumpkins we picked up when we went pumpkin picking for the first time in York.
The hubby would say I went crazy and bought way too many, whilst I would say, I love pumpkin and they are not around for long!
The kids were a lot more excited than we thought they would be and wanted to take every pumpkin home with them.
They then proudly helped us make their pumpkin soup maker recipe.
If you are going pumpkin picking and have spare pumpkins, then this pumpkin soup recipe is ideal.
Slimming World Pumpkin Soup In The Soup Maker
My second inspiration for making this soup maker pumpkin soup is to create a delicious Slimming World pumpkin soup.

Pumpkin Soup Recipe Ingredients
Onions – For the best ever pumpkin soup I recommend some onion as it adds a lovely flavour to it. You can use red or brown or you can use some shallots.
Garlic – My soup maker hack is to buy some frozen already chopped garlic and then add some in as you make the soup. This saves any peeling and avoids garlic waste too.
Pumpkin – When I’m making pumpkin soup in a soup maker, I go with as much as will fit in, as soup makers never hold that much. In our case we filled it to bursting and then weighed it out and it worked out at 800g of cubed fresh pumpkin.
Stock – You will need some veggie stock to make your soup flavoursome. BUT don’t add in too much as remember pumpkin holds a lot of water and you want a creamy pumpkin soup. My recommendation is 200ml of veggie stock and we use our homemade instant pot veggie stock.
Seasonings – For seasonings, we are keeping it simple with salt, pepper, sweet paprika, and mixed herbs. Though if you want something different, do check out our seasoning ideas below.
Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this pumpkin soup for soup maker it has just been our Ninja Soup Maker. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of soup maker recipes.
Plus, we recommend you head over to our soup maker recipes category as we have more than 50 tried and tested soup maker recipes and have been using soup machines for 7 years.

Can You Make Pumpkin Soup Without Cream?
Yes, you can make pumpkin soup without cream and its very rare that I add cream to a soup that I am cooking.
With our pumpkin soup in the soup maker, we have used less stock as pumpkin is watery and this keeps the thickness of the soup spot on without needing to use cream.
If you do want the creamy texture in your soup, then may I suggest Greek yoghurt, fromage frais or another low calorie ingredient.
What Can I Add To Pumpkin Soup For Flavour?
I get it, you don’t want boring or bland pumpkin soup and sometimes you have had it and it has lacked flavour.
Well, don’t worry there is lots of flavour combos you can do to add flavour to your pumpkin soup.
My all time favourite soup maker soup is soup maker lentil soup, which is red lentils with tomatoes and Thai seasoning.
You can do the same thing and make soup maker Thai pumpkin soup. Just add in some Thai 7 spice or some red Thai curry paste.
Or what about a curried pumpkin soup soup maker recipe? Simply add in some curry powder instead and maybe some cumin and you have another great flavour.

Pumpkin Soup Tips & Tricks
- Because of the way the soup maker works and regularly mixes your soup during the cooking process, it means that you don’t need to stir the soup as you add in the ingredients.
- Use frozen chopped garlic. It’s a total life saver when it comes to prep work for soups and stews. Then you can just get a little out of the freezer as and when you need it.
- Don’t add too much stock to your soup. Pumpkin holds a lot of water and your soup will turn into dishwasher water. Or if your soup ends up too thick you can add water later, whilst you cant take water away if you added too much in the beginning.
- Add veggie stock to the bottom of the soup maker first if you can as it will help start the mixing process and avoid your soup maker from getting burnt.
Interesting Soup Maker Trick – You have a lack of room with soup makers, add quick cooking ingredients last and then you will be able to fit more in your soup maker. If you want to see this in action, check out our speed soup video.
