Jamie Oliver Turkey Twizzlers
The first ever memory of turkey twizzlers was back in 2005 when Jamie Oliver was on a campaign wanting to get turkey twizzlers banned from the school dinner menu.
I remember at the time when Kyle first started school in England (back in 2006) how strict school dinners was and I was too afraid to send Kyle to school with a packed lunch for fear of a telling off.
I remember when Jamie Oliver was all over the media talking about the use of turkey twizzlers in school and how we should be feeding our kids healthy food and that turkey twizzlers was one of the worst foods around.
I believe later his wife was seen buying frozen food, much to the delight of the media.
Having never tried them, I just assumed that they were an alternative to the chicken nugget (but obviously with turkey) and didn’t give them much more attention.
That was back in 2005 and having recently moved back to England, for the first time ever I spotted turkey twizzlers in Iceland.
I later learnt that the recipe has been approved since the Jamie Oliver days and now has majority turkey, compared to before being majority fat.
Today I wanted to show you how to cook the turkey twizzlers in the air fryer. Which of course will reduce the fat even further compared to deep frying them.

What Are Turkey Twizzlers?
Turkey twizzlers are the creation of Bernard Matthews. As in the guy that brings us the amazing turkey produce that you can find in many supermarkets in the frozen food section.
They are shaped like this:
And are perfect for air frying and become wonderfully crispy when you load them into the air fryer with some extra virgin olive oil spray.
Like I mentioned above thanks to Jamie Oliver’s campaign they are no longer on the school dinner menu. But you can serve them at home with air fryer fries for your kids.
What To Do With Twizzlers?
The best option with Bernard Matthews turkey twizzlers is to cook them in the air fryer, and then serve them with some potatoes for dinner for the kids.

Turkey Twizzlers Iceland
When experimenting with cooking turkey twizzlers in the air fryer we bought two different boxes of them:
- American Cheeseburger Flavour
- Tangy Tomato Flavour
Both flavours can be air fried and what I love about the tangy tomato version is the beautiful colour of them. And they have such a wonderful tomato flavour it reminds me of when Walkers did tomato ketchup flavoured crisps.
How To Cook Turkey Twizzlers In The Air Fryer?
- Load. Add your frozen twizzlers into the air fryer basket.
- Spray. Add a spraying of extra virgin olive oil and this will make your twizzlers as crispy as the deep fat fryer but without the high fat content.
- Cook. Air fry for 6 minutes depending on how powerful your air fryer is and how crispy you would like them and then serve.
How Long Do You Cook Turkey Twizzlers?
We recommend a turkey twizzlers cook time of JUST 6 minutes. We found more than this and they were overcooked and under this and they will not be nice and crispy.
You can also do one batch of Bernard Matthews turkey twizzlers at once in the air fryer.

- 8 Frozen Turkey Twizzlers
- Olive Oil Spray
- Air Fryer Frozen French Fries optional
Instructions
- Remove frozen turkey twizzlers from the packaging and place in the air fryer making sure they are spread out.
- Spray with extra virgin olive oil to create a crispier coating.
- Air fry for 6 minutes at 180c/360f, or if you want them crispier opt for 200c/400f.
