Air Fryer Cod Fish Cakes
I grew up in a beautiful pretty town in the north of England. With its amazing beaches, there was seafood wherever you went.
My grandad was a fisherman, so was his dad, so was his grandad and the family of fishermen went on and on.
I loved as a kid watching my grandad make homemade fishcakes and then cook them in his scruffy frying pan, that had seen better days.
There were delicious and you can check out my late grandad’s homemade fishcakes recipe adapted for the air fryer in our air fryer fishcakes recipe.
But right now, I am nowhere near home and don’t have access to the same supplies and I am turning to a batch of frozen cod fishcakes instead.
Of course, air fryer frozen fishcakes are not the same thing as homemade fishcakes, but if you have a craving for fishcakes and are not by the sea, then this is for you.
Can You Cook Frozen Fish Cakes In An Air Fryer?
Yes, you can, and did you know that fish cakes cooked in the air fryer have a much better crisp on them compared to oven baked or pan fried?
In fact, I find that the air fryer is the best place to cook any of your favourite fish cakes.
You also don’t have to use just frozen cod fish cakes like we are using today. Haddock, mixed fish etc also are delicious.
Fishcakes Vs Fish Cake
If you were paying attention above, you will have noticed I have called them both fishcakes and fish cake. In some parts of the world, it is known as air fryer fishcakes and in other parts of the world it’s referred to as air fryer fish cakes.
On a quick Google search, I noticed most recipes call it fish cakes, yet every bag of frozen cod fish cakes I see sold including the bag we have is called fishcakes.
I will let you decide which one you prefer!
Can You Put Frozen Stuff In An Air Fryer?
Yes, you can. I must have cooked more than 100 different frozen foods in the air fryer now. I also find that frozen stuff in the air fryer is the best place to start if you are an air fryer beginner.
Some of our favourite frozen stuff to cook in the air fryer include air fryer frozen French fries, air fryer frozen chicken wings and my personal favourite air fryer frozen chicken nuggets.
How To Air Fry Frozen Fish Cakes?
This is how to cook fish cakes from frozen using the air fryer:
- Load frozen cod fish cakes into the air fryer.
- Air fry + turn.
- Air fry + serve.
You can probably see now why I am so obsessed with cooking in the air fryer.
How Long To Cook Frozen Fish Cakes In Air Fryer?
The air fryer fish cakes cooking time is JUST 8 minutes. This is fantastic because you can turn them at 4 minutes and know that they are going to be ready fast.
If you want to pair them with fries then you can add your fries first and then add the fish cakes for the last 8 minutes of cooking time.

Hi Marian,
Yes as long as when you froze them they are roughly the same size as the ones in the recipe 🙂
My kids loved these and we cooked them with the fries which turned out to not be a disaster, my confidence is growing but it will be a while before i actually bake in the air fryer 🙂
I am waiting for these as i have a pack and thought they would be good in the air fryer but i am not confident using it. Thank you for doing them and showing me how to cook them.
I love fish cakes and used to get them battered from the chip shop back in the day. These were gorgeous and brought back a lot of memories, thank you for making cooking in these so easy.
