Air Fryer Frozen Breaded Haddock
Back in February, we showed you how easy it is to cook frozen cod in air fryer, and the responses we got from our readers, were all about what about air fryer frozen breaded haddock, or can you cook frozen haddock in the air fryer? Is it any good and what are the time and temps.
So here we are back talking about frozen fish in the air fryer, just this time the conversation is frozen haddock in the air fryer.
Firstly, we cooked cod and haddock at the same time in different air fryers, so we could see which one we preferred.
Because haddock is less fatty than cod, this means haddock is the clear winner. As not only is it less fat, but it means that haddock gets much crispier in the air fryer than cod.
So whether you are team cod or team haddock, you can do either, or a mix of both in the air fryer and they are delicious.
Today, we are going to share with you cooking frozen haddock in the air fryer, how long to air fry, what temperature and how golden and delicious this haddock air fryer recipe is.
Can You Cook Frozen Fish In Air Fryer
Yes, you can cook frozen fish in air fryer. Frozen fish, battered, breaded, or no breading are all delicious cooked in the air fryer.
The air fryer also stops the haddock or other fish from being dry, when they are in the air fryer. I could never imagine cooking frozen fish any other way.
If you would rather enjoy air fryer haddock fillets that are NOT breaded or battered, then do check out Air Fryer Easy Everyday which is our 2nd air fryer cookbook. In the fish chapter we have haddock with baby potatoes and green beans, and it is delicious.
Can You Cook Frozen Haddock In Air Fryer?
Yes, you can cook frozen haddock in the air fryer and its so delicious. If you wanted to cook battered fish in the air fryer, you wouldn’t be able to do this if the haddock was fresh. This is because the batter would fall of and make a huge mess in the air fryer.
But with frozen battered haddock in air fryer because it is frozen not thawed it cooks perfectly and no fish in the air fryer is as good as battered. Curious about it? Check out our air fryer battered fish and chips which was made using M&S battered fish and is so good!
Can I Air Fry Frozen Fish Without Thawing?
Yes, you don’t need thraw any frozen fish before air frying. You can of course if you want to, but its not necessary.
We have cooked both fresh and frozen salmon in air fryer, as well as both fresh cod in air fryer and of course frozen. Though for a general rule avoid thawing breaded or battered fish as it goes soggy and is not as nice air fried from thawed, whilst fish without breading is great either way.
Frozen Haddock Air Fryer Ingredients
Haddock – we used a box of frozen haddock fillets from Iceland that had been battered. You can use battered or breaded frozen haddock in the air fryer, keeping the same time and temperature but note battered do taste better.
Oil – Now oil is totally optional as we find that because its battered fish it really doesn’t need much for it to go nice and crispy. But we do recommend a good spray if using breaded haddock in the air fryer.
Can You Recommend An Air Fryer?
I often get asked which air fryers I recommend and which one I use. In 95% of our air fryer recipes, we use either the Philips Air Fryer XL or the Cosori XL because they are the best ones, we have found out of many air fryers we have tried over the years. You can click on the links above and read up on them. But if you would rather have a dual air fryer we recommend this Ninja Dual (make sure you order the right one as not all are good) or the Philips Dual.
How To Cook Frozen Haddock In Air Fryer?
- Load. Place your frozen haddock fillets in air fryer. Spread them out because you don’t want them on top of each other as it will ruin the crispy texture. We can usually fit in 4 at once, but a bigger air fryer could hold more than this.
- Cook. Set the temperature to 180c/360f and air fry frozen haddock fillets for 12 minutes, followed by another 4 minutes at 200c/400f.
- Oil. If you want to add oil spray to the air fryer frozen haddock, we recommend between the 12 minute cook and the 4 minute.
How Long To Cook Frozen Haddock In Air Fryer?
We recommend cooking frozen haddock in air fryer for 16 minutes. Or if you are cooking small frozen haddock fillets that are not breaded, 12 minutes. Though keep an eye on your fish and tweak if needed as it can vary based on the size of your fillets.
What Is The Best Air Fryer Temp For Fish?
We recommend for any frozen breaded or battered fish in air fryer (including haddock), that you start with a temperature of 180c/360f, to cook the haddock from frozen, then increase to 200c/400f to make it nice and crispy.
