How to make a delicious Air Fryer Egg And Bacon Pie. This traditional egg and bacon pie is much easier to make thanks to the air fryer and you can even use the air fryer to cook your bacon.
If you love quiche or a frittata you will love our old fashioned egg and bacon pie. One of those WW2 classics that makes use of ingredients and creates a frugal pie that will leave you full for hours.
Egg And Bacon Pie
I remember as a kid how much I hated it when my grandma would make an egg and bacon pie for my dad. She would always make at least three and one would always be ready and waiting for my dad when he collected me after a week at my grandparents.
I was at that fussy 10 year old stage and hated bacon with a passion. I could never understand why she would not load it up with cheese and basically make a cheese and it seemed really boring without the cheese.
But my Dad absolutely adored her egg and bacon pie and would go back for 2nds and 3rds and it was his thing.
Many years later, when I had finished my fussy I hate bacon and I am a vegetarian phase, I tried egg and bacon pie and thought it was delicious.
Now when I look back, I realise just how frugal the classic egg bacon pie is and how wonderful it is for an easy pie to cook in the air fryer.
Today, I wanted to share with you how to cook a delicious egg & bacon pie using the air fryer, including how to quickly cook the bacon.

What Is A Bacon And Egg Pie?
A bacon and egg pie are an old school traditional pie associated with WW2 rationing. It is compared to as a twist between a quiche and a frittata. That is because the filling comes together like our air fryer frittata and the crust is like our air fryer quiche.
Imagine swapping out the quiche filling to just bacon and then adding a pie lid on the top.
You then have a traditional egg and bacon pie.
Then note because they were made on limited WW2 rations, it means the ingredients for egg & bacon pie are easy to source and its incredibly easy to make.
Bacon And Egg Pie Recipe History
A traditional egg and bacon pie was a huge hit during the WW2 rationing era.
That is because you raised your own eggs, made your own pastry from supplies and then only needed to use a small portion of your bacon allowance into the pie.
The bacon and egg pie is also rather filling because of the high quantity of eggs, the shortcrust pastry and the bacon.
When I had a slice of this bacon & egg pie, I was full for hours.
Make A Egg And Bacon Flan Instead
Not everyone likes a pastry over their egg and bacon pie recipe and that is when the egg and bacon flan can make a fantastic plan B.
Simply follow our egg and bacon pie recipe then leave out the extra layer of pastry on top and then air fry with the same time and temp.
Bacon And Egg Pie With Shortcrust Pastry
For your bacon and egg pie and to keep it traditional I recommend for your egg and bacon pie recipe that you use homemade shortcrust pastry. Its so easy to make your own and I share how to do so in full in my air fryer pie crust recipe.
In a nutshell you only need flour and butter and a little water, and it keeps the cost down.
Can You Use Puff Pastry For Pie Base?
Yes, if you don’t want to make your own pastry for your bacon egg pie then you can use puff pastry instead.
You can use the puff pastry on the bottom and the top of your pie, though it does work best if you use shortcrust on the bottom and puff pastry on the top.
Why Is My Bacon And Egg Pie Watery?
A bacon and egg pie becomes watery because of one of two reasons.
Number 1 that your bacon and egg pie has not allowed the bacon to rest before being added and the fat and grease from the bacon has made it watery.
Number 2 is that you have added too much milk to your egg and milk mixture and this has caused the mixture to become watered down and led to a watery pie.
Is Blind Baking Necessary For Meat Pie?
No, blind baking is not needed to make a meat pie or any other savoury pie in the air fryer. I have cooked savoury pies for years and made many in the air fryer, and never have I blind baked.
Blind baking is only needed for when your pastry is not going to be ready quick enough i.e. your filling will be ready long before the pastry and it needs a head start.
Or for recipes such as chocolate tarts where the pastry needs cooking but the filling doesn’t.

Easy Bacon And Egg Pie Ingredients
Bacon – I recommend bacon that has just been cooked and soaked of its excess fat. This will stop the bacon and egg pie from going wrong and I used the bacon from my frozen bacon in air fryer instructions.
Eggs – We used 9 large eggs in our egg & bacon pie which may seem a lot but it needs to fill your pastry.
Milk – Then you will need to mix your eggs with some milk to make that quiche/flan like batter.
Seasonings – I also added in some seasonings to make the egg bacon pie taste less bland. I used salt, pepper, and parsley.
Pastry – Then I had a batch of my pie crust already made ready to be rolled out into my quiche dish.
It is often referred to as the 4 ingredient bacon and egg pie because you excluding seasonings you just need pastry, egg, bacon, and milk.
Or if you would like to make sausage bacon and egg pie, then simply reduce the bacon portion by about 1/3 and then add in a couple of just cooked air fryer sausages that you have sliced into chunks.
Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this easy egg and bacon pie it has just been our Philips air fryer. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of air fryer recipes.
We also recommend that you have a quiche dish that has a loose bottom that will work well in the air fryer and fit your air fryer size. We used this one.

How To Make Bacon And Egg Pie?
- Bacon. Once you have cooked your bacon, layer it on kitchen towel and leave it for about 20 minutes for the excess fat to drip away. Once it has done so slice the bacon into chunks.
- Roll. Sprinkle a clean worktop with flour and flour your rolling pin. Roll out the shortcrust pastry and then line the bottom of your quiche dish.
- Add. Next add the bacon to your quiche dish over the pastry that you have just added.
- Pour. Then in a jug add the eggs, milk and seasonings and mix well. Pour over the bacon.
- Line. Then roll out the rest of the pastry and cover the top of the quiche dish with pastry. Brush with egg wash and cut the top so the pie can breathe.
- Cook. Load into the air fryer and air fry your egg bacon pie for 20 minutes at 170c/340f followed by a 20 minute rest inside the air fryer basket to fully set. Then you can remove and slice and enjoy.
And I am sure you can see now how easy it is making egg and bacon pie in the air fryer and how you can be doing the same.

Air Fryer Egg And Bacon Pie
- Place your just cooked bacon on kitchen towels and allow the extra fat to soak into the towels. After 20 minutes remove the bacon and slice into chunks.
- Flour a clean worktop and a rolling pin and then roll out your shortcrust pastry. Line a quiche dish with shortcrust pastry and then add your bacon bits, spreading them out so that you will get an equal bacon spread.
- In a jug add the eggs and seasonings and then beat and then add in the milk and carry on stirring.
- Pour the egg and milk mixture over the bacon until you have an almost full quiche dish.
- Then roll out the rest of the pastry and line the top of your egg and bacon pie. Then brush on some egg wash and cut a few holes in the centre to allow the pie to breathe as it cooks. Load into the air fryer.
- Air fry your egg and bacon pie for 20 minutes at 170c/340f and then keep it in the air fryer to set for a further 20 minutes. Then you can remove the pie from the air fryer, slice and serve.
