Halloumi Salad
I remember having this awful holiday in my teens with my parents to the Greek Isle of Skiathos when I was about 13/14.
It was October half term, and we got a really cheap last minute holiday deal. What we didn’t realise before going is that the island shuts down after that week and that hardly anything was open.
Add to this, loads of rain and the maid stealing our chocolate from our room and a dirty swimming pool, you can imagine that we were far from happy.
Because most of the food areas were closed and there was not much left, I still remember now the two foods that I really enjoyed.
One was gyros. Made from pork and a great alternative to doner kebabs and the other was a Greek salad. Loaded with similar ingredients to our Greek halloumi salad today and so delicious, it made me want to have another and another.
So, this summer, I am taking a trip down memory lane.
Firstly, with our air fryer halloumi gyros. Which is a vegetarian halloumi version of the ones I had in Skiathos.
Then secondly, today with halloumi replacing feta in the Greek salad and of course, the halloumi will be perfectly air fried to make the best grilled halloumi you have ever tried.

Is Halloumi Healthy?
Yes, halloumi is healthy. Or how I would class halloumi is a healthier cheese. Its got a fantastic texture making it perfect for air frying because it has a high melting point. It has a lot of similar characteristics as feta, so it makes it perfect as an easy replacement for feta in a classic Greek salad.
Is Halloumi Vegetarian?
Most packs of halloumi cheese are vegetarian but not all. This is because some halloumi contains animal derived rennet.
So, if you are vegetarian do check the labels before buying.
If you are vegetarian, then note, halloumi can replace sliced chicken breast in a lot of recipes such as our air fryer halloumi burgers, or in chicken salads you can swap the chicken for the halloumi.
Can Halloumi Be Cooked In An Air Fryer?
Yes, halloumi can be cooked in the air fryer. Back to that high melting point that I mentioned about halloumi.
Halloumi wont melt in the air fryer at a typical air fryer temperature making it perfect for air frying.
You can then slice up your halloumi, load it into the air fryer and it will come out like grilled chicken.
How Do You Grill Halloumi For Salad?
You place the halloumi in the air fryer in either chunks or strips. You then smother the halloumi with basil or oregano and air fry.
When the air fryer beeps you will have perfect grilled style halloumi for loading into your salad.
Though I love saving time, so I will make the rest of my salad whilst the air fryer is working its magic.
Halloumi Salad Recipe Ingredients
Halloumi – I used one block of Aldi halloumi for this halloumi salad. And then sliced it into cubes so that it was like how feta is served to you in a classic Greek salad. It also looks just like how vegetarians serve their tofu.
Garnish – Then for your classic salad garnish we have used rocket salad leaves, red onion, and cherry tomatoes.
Olives – I find that what makes a Mediterranean halloumi salad look so good, is the olives. They just stand out in the salad and make it look even more delicious. I got a olives medley from the supermarket and had a few different coloured olives added.
Oil – Extra virgin olive oil finishes off perfectly a halloumi salad recipe. You just add a little drizzle on top when you are done.

How Do You Make Halloumi Salad?
- Cook. Slice your halloumi into cubes, spray with extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle with basil or oregano and place in the air fryer. Air fry the halloumi on its own until perfectly crispy.
- Prep. Whilst the air fryer is air frying the halloumi, make your salad. Add clean rocket leaves first and then create a layer of cucumbers, then a layer of halved cherry tomatoes, then a layer of olives. In the middle add sliced red onions.
- Finish. Then drizzle with extra virgin olive oil before adding the halloumi and serving.
And I am sure you can see now how easy it is to make a halloumi salad and why you should be doing it too!
How Long Does Halloumi Take In The Air Fryer?
The halloumi air fryer time is JUST 6 minutes. Even though halloumi is just like chicken, it is much quicker than chicken to air fry. Though this is because you are reheating not cooking the halloumi and just creating a crispy grilled texture.
Then for the halloumi air fryer temp you are looking at 180c/360f to create an even cook.

Air Fryer Halloumi Greek Salad
Ingredients
- 225 g Halloumi
- Sliced Cumber
- Halved Cherry Tomatoes
- 150 g Mixed Olives
- ½ Medium Red Onion
- 200 g Rocket Leaves
- 2 Tsp Oregano
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil Spray
- 4 Tsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil, for drizzling

Instructions
- Slice your halloumi into cubes and season with oregano.
- Place the halloumi in the air fryer. Air fry for 6 minutes at 180c/360f.
- Whilst the air fryer is working its magic make your salad. Start with clean rocket leaves, add sliced cucumber around the edges, then halved cherry tomatoes, then olives and finish with some diced red onion in the middle.
- When the air fryer beeps add a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and add the air fryer halloumi chunks. Serve whilst the halloumi is still warm.
A perfect summer salad in my opinion. The halloumi in the air fryer is delicious and goes great with a cold crispy salad.
