The ultimate halloumi gyros. Made in the air fryer and loaded with halloumi and chips along with a quick prep Greek dip.
Perfect for using up leftover halloumi and chips and tastes just as good as the ones you get served at the fair.

Halloumi Gyros
I remember the day I first had halloumi gyros very well. Because it was also the day that I finally managed to get payback on our eldest son Kyle.
He has spent years and years taunting me about the time we went on the Mount Everest ride at DisneyWorld and how I screamed like a baby because fast rides and me, just donโt go together very well!
That was in 2012 and his comments over the years have got more and more sarcastic, the older he has got.
But last year we went down the coast and had a wonderful weekend away. It was one of those seaside towns that most donโt admit visiting as itโs a bit rough around the edges.
But it has great bowling alleys, plenty of fairground rides and plenty of other things to get out and do.
We got the unlimited pass for the fairground and I got Kyle on the Waltzer and he looked like he was going to pass out by the time he came off.
And finally, I could tease him about it! Especially with Jorge loving it so much at the age of 5!
Then with all the excitement we headed over the food area and whilst the boys tucked into fairground burgers, I had my first halloumi gyro. I had wanted one for a long time and enjoyed every bite.
The halloumi gyro, (or you might call it a halloumi wrap) was loaded with grilled halloumi, chips, salad garnish and a Greek dip. It was amazing.

After eating it, I announced that I was going to make one next summer for Recipe This using our leftover air fryer chips and today is the day.

Halloumi & Chips
I just love the way halloumi and chips goes together. How you can make use of some of your leftover air fryer chips and cook it with air fryer halloumi for the ultimate meal.
You donโt have to cook anything else, just the halloumi and chips and load it into wraps with some salad stuff and some sauce and you have an amazing vegetarian dinner.
And if you have not had halloumi before, then note it can be eaten in a similar way to chicken, you just need to be careful that you handle it gently as it breaks easily.
Can Halloumi Be Cooked In An Air Fryer?
Yes, halloumi can be cooked in the air fryer. Halloumi has a very high melting point, and it makes a fantastic Mediterranean substitute for chicken in recipes.
If you keep it whole then it can be made into air fryer halloumi burgers or slice it and it can replace chicken such as using halloumi to make air fryer chicken fajitas, or even use it as a plan B for a chicken stir fry.
Whatโs In Gyros?
The ingredients in gyros can vary depending on where you buy them from, whether you make your own, or even which country you are in.
But the gyros ingredients usually include:
- Tortilla Wraps
- Meat/Fish
- Salad Garnish (tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce etc)
- Greek Dip
Though of course most British ones also include chips in them and are fantastic for filling you up.
Also, when I had them as a teen in the Greek Isle of Skiathos they were pork meat that was cut similar to a doner kebab with tomato, lettuce and a garlic Greek dip in a wrap.
What Does 100g Of Halloumi Look Like?
Here is the halloumi we have sliced ready for making a Greek halloumi wrap:

As you can see there are 6 pieces of sliced halloumi cut up ready to make halloumi gyros with.
The whole halloumi portion is 225g, the same as 8 ounces. That means each one is 37.5g. That means that 100g is 2. 75 slices.
Which is plenty for lunch or dinner. And because I am making a halloumi wrap, I find that 37.5g (one slice) is plenty for me.
Halloumi Gyros Ingredients

Halloumi โ I used one block of Aldi halloumi for these gyros. And then sliced it lengthways into big chunks ready to be air fried.
Chips โ We also used a portion of leftover chips from our air fryer chips recipe. Though you can use any pre-cooked chips that you have.
Wraps โ To make a halloumi wraps recipe I love to use Weight Watchers Wraps they are of the perfect size, and hold together very well and are of course lower in calories than regular ones.
Garnish โ I also love to load the halloumi wraps with some garnish such as sliced cucumber and some sliced tomato.
Dip โ Then for making your halloumi wraps taste even better, I recommend creating a Greek dip to go with them. For this I add cucumber, mint, garlic, lemon and Greek yoghurt.
Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this halloumi gyros recipe it has just been our Cosori air fryer. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of air fryer recipes.
Plus, we recommend you head over to our air fryer recipes category as we have more than 500 tried and tested air fryer recipes and have been air frying for 10 years.
