Thai Meatballs

Back in June we were at a local holiday cottage filming new recipe videos. Its an Air BnB and has the most amazing country views. Our own kitchen is not suitable for recipe videos and we will use the cottage 2-3 days of the month.

We were there filming a video for my favourite Thai inspired lentil soup and its my all time favourite and I realised we were out of containers, so we couldn’t take the leftovers home with us.

Totally gutted and since then I have made more soup maker lentil soup than any other soup.

It tastes so good and is a mix of tomatoes, red lentils, and some other veggies with my favourite Thai seasoning.

In the process of updating our Thai meatballs I felt it was the perfect time to serve the meatballs over a bowl of yummy lentil soup, so if you also have a soup maker, then I recommend at the same time as making these Thai meatballs that you can get a batch of Soup Maker Lentil Soup cooking too.

Can You Air Fry Frozen Meatballs?

Yes, you can air fry frozen meatballs and air fryer frozen meatballs are delicious, but they only work with prepped meatballs.

You see, when you make these Thai meatballs, you will want to season the meatballs and make them into balls, and you can’t do that with frozen mince. But if your meat is frozen do check out our defrost mince in the microwave guide.

Thai Pork Meatballs

I love pork mince, or as you might call it ground pork. Its amazing and because it holds a little extra fat than chicken or beef, it makes a fantastic texture for homemade meatballs.

As if you go too lean, you can end up with meatballs that are dry and that don’t taste like the ones you have when you eat out.

I recommend if you can, making air fryer meatballs with either pork or a pork and beef mix.

What Are Thai Meatballs?

Thai meatballs are just like sound. Instead of the usual Italian seasoning in your meatballs, instead you are adding Thai seasoning.

It gives a delicious taste to your meatballs and they make a fantastic alternative to dinner, or you can make them smaller and serve them on sticks at a party as an appetizer.

Thai Meatball Recipe Ingredients

Thai Meatball Recipe Ingredients

Mince – You will need about 500g which is just over 1lb of minced pork (ground pork) to make these meatballs with. And if you want perfect uniform sizes you can also weigh the meat as you make the meatballs.

Onion – I also recommend adding some thinly diced red onion to the pork as it adds a delicious crunchy flavour to your meatballs once they have been air fried.

Cheese – I also recommend adding some Philadelphia cream cheese to your meatballs. I do this with all meatballs regardless of flavour as it stops them from being dry and makes the texture on them so much better.

Seasonings – Then my favourite bit is the 7 Thai spice blend which reduces the amount of ingredients needed. Then we also used salt, pepper, ground ginger, kaffir lime leaves and garlic puree.

Soup – Then if you are making a Thai inspired meatball soup you will also want to make a batch of our lentil soup for the meatballs to sit in once they have been air fried.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this recipe for Thai meatballs it has just been our Philips air fryer. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of air fryer recipes.

Plus, we recommend you head over to our air fryer recipes category as we have more than 500 tried and tested air fryer recipes and have been air frying for 10 years.

How To Make Thai Meatballs In Air Fryer?

air fryer thai meatballs step by step
  • Soup. I start with getting the lentil soup going in the soup maker. The soup maker takes 3 times longer than the meatballs do, so it’s good to give it a head start.
  • Prep. Then load your meatball ingredients into a bowl and mix well with your hands. Then shape into Thai balls. If you want perfect sizes then weigh as you go (we did 47g per meatball).
  • Cook. Air fry your homemade Thai meatballs for 10 minutes at 180c/360f.
  • Serve. When the soup is cooked, load the soup into bowls and place the Thai style meatballs over the soup and then serve.

And I am sure you can see now how easy it is to cook Thai meatballs in the air fryer and how you can be doing the same.

Thai Meatball Sauce

Also, if you don’t want a meatball soup with your meatballs, you can use the soup as a sauce instead.

Make our Ninja Foodi Spaghetti Bolognese and then for the sauce you add to the spaghetti have it be our Thai soup then you can have a creamy sauce in your pasta.

Or warm up our soup, just enough to cover some spaghetti and serve it with your Thai meatballs.

What Time & Temp For Air Fryer Meatballs?

I have always found that the same time and temp works every time for meatballs regardless of the meat used.

That is a cook time for meatballs of 10 minutes with no preheat needed. Then a temperature of 180c/360f for an even cook.

Notes

Frozen. If your minced pork is frozen, follow our defrost mince in microwave instructions first.
Serving. If you are serving your Thai meatballs recipe with soup, then I recommend making the soup first as it takes longer to cook than the meatballs do.
Secret. The secret ingredient to perfect meatballs in the air fryer is a little soft cheese such as Philadelphia. It stops them from going dry and gives them the wow factor.
