Ninja Foodi Frozen French Fries

As I get to know the Ninja Foodi bit by bit I have been experimenting with potatoes and analysing how they compare to other air fryers.

If you have been following me for a while you will know that I have more than 400 air fryer recipes and it is growing by the day. If you are new to Recipe This and have stumbled across my Ninja Foodi Frozen French fries, then you should know I am addicted to air fryer fries.

I have made air fryer fries so many times. I love my air fryer cajun fries the most and my least favourite is air fryer oven fries.

After purchasing my first Ninja Foodi I have been experimenting to see how foods cooked in the Philips Air Fryer compare to the Ninja.

One food that is always popular with newbie air fryer users is frozen French fries. I can see the addiction too. It’s a great quick food that you would normally load into the deep fat fryer.

Yet as an air fryer user you can have the same great tasting fries for a fraction of the oil calories. Plus, air fryer frozen fries are so easy, that it builds up your confidence and helps you before you move onto other air fryer recipes.

Todays experiment is all about grabbing a couple of bags of frozen French fries and to see how frozen fries compare from the traditional air fryer to the Ninja Foodi.

Frozen French Fries In Ninja Foodi

Back in 2018 I published a recipe showing you how to cook frozen French fries in the air fryer. I got some complaints because some of our readers said that their frozen fries were not fully cooked.

I took a further look and realised that I was using the quick cook McCain fries. They were already cooked and you were basically reheating back up frozen fries in the air fryer. No wonder they were so quick.

The takeaway from this, is that there are many, many brands of frozen fries and look at the label for the cook time so that you have a rough idea of how long they will take to cook in the air fryer.

Plus, this is also a great advertisement for how good frozen fries are that are being reheated in the air fryer.

How Do You Cook Frozen Food In Ninja Foodi?

Frozen food in the Ninja Foodi cooks in a similar way to many air fryers. You load the frozen food into the air fryer crisp and then press the button to air fry.

You then come back when it beeps to perfectly cooked Ninja Foodi frozen food.

Here are just a few frozen foods you could cook in the Ninja Foodi:

Best Frozen Fries To Air Fry

There is no right or wrong answer here. We have tried a LOT of different frozen French fries in the air fryer and they have all tasted delicious. They have all had a great crisp on them and they have all been dumped from the bag into the air fryer basket.

I recommend that you go with your favourite type of frozen fries and cook that. Or here are three of our favourites:

  • Ninja Foodi Frozen Steak Fries
  • Ninja Foodi Sweet Potato Fries
  • Ninja Foodi Frozen Waffle Fries

How To Cook Frozen French Fries In Ninja Foodi?

ninja foodi frozen fries step by step

Frozen French fries in Ninja Foodi goes as follows:

  1. Dump frozen fries into air fryer basket.
  2. Cook frozen fries at a medium temperature.
  3. Spray with extra virgin olive oil.
  4. Air fry + serve.

There is a little more to it than that, but those are the simple basics!

Ninja Foodi Frozen French Fries Cook Time

During cooking our Ninja Foodi Frozen French Fries we kept an eye on our cook time and compared it to the time on the bag for oven baking or deep fat frying.

Here is what we found:

The quick fry bag had a recommended cook time of 7 minutes and we cooked ours for 8 minutes.

This was two different temperatures so that the fries were fully cooked and crispy on the outside. It was the same fries we cooked in the Philips Air Fryer that took JUST 5 minutes.

The regular French fries we bought, had a recommended cook time on the bag of 13 minutes. We did 15 minutes in total with a medium heat and then a high heat. They were also longer than what we would cook in the Philips Air Fryer.

After our experiment I have found that the Ninja Foodi Air Crisp takes slightly longer than the cook time recommended on the bag.

If you are using different frozen fries than us, I recommend you follow the bag instructions, then check on your fries and see what adjustments you need to make.

Ninja Foodi Frozen French Fries Verdict

You are probably wondering what we thought of the Ninja Foodi Frozen French Fries and if we would recommend them. Well, we did enjoy them, but they were not as good as using the Philips Air Fryer.

From what we have cooked so far, we have found that the pressure cooker is better than the Instant Pot, but the air fryer is not as good as other air fryers. But it’s a great space saver and ideal if you can’t choose between an air fryer and an instant pot.

Notes

Cheesy. If you have a thing for cheesy fries, then 2 minutes before the end of cooking add in some grated cheese and let it melt as it finishes cooking.
Reheating. If you are reheating frozen French fries I recommend you reduce the cook time. Instead cook for 5 minutes at 180c and then 3 minutes at 200c.
