French Toast In Air Fryer
Have you made air fryer toast yet? What about air fryer crumpets or air fryer toasted bagels?
All three of them are fantastic for a quick breakfast in the air fryer. Its your grab and go kind of breakfast.
The sort that would suit you as you are running out of the door on your way to work.
Or maybe you are a little more organised and love to reheat our air fryer frittata instead.
Either way, they are what I call weekday quick grab and go air fryer breakfasts.
But what about those weekends when you are not running out of the door, complaining that you are late?
Or maybe it’s a special occasion like Easter Sunday, or mother’s day or father’s day or your kids birthday.
Those are the days when I recommend you make a batch of air fryer French toast.
Its so easy to make and we took these photos that you see now between Christmas and New Year when we had leftover bread and eggs and wanted something fun with Sofia & Jorge for breakfast.
If you have not done French toast in the air fryer yet, then I recommend you give it a try as its so delicious.

What Is French Toast?
French toast is a type of toast, where the bread is soaked in an egg and milk batter before it is cooked.
French toast is traditionally cooked in a frying pan, but of course like many foods, can taste a lot better cooked in the air fryer.
However, growing up in England, it was never called French toast it was always called eggy bread or gypsy toast.
Can You Make French Toast In An Air Fryer?
Yes, you can. You will love French toast cooked in the air fryer. It’s so simple to make air fried French toast and then you can also use the air fryer to reheat your leftover French toast.
Whilst you might prefer slices of French toast, you can also use the air fryer for air fryer French toast sticks too.
Making French Toast In The Air Fryer
When making French toast in the air fryer, you will notice it’s a little different compared to getting the frying pan out of the kitchen cupboard.
Firstly, air fried French toast requires the use of a non-stick coating being applied to the air fryer basket first.
You would spray the air fryer basket with extra virgin olive oil like I am doing here:
Then you would use your pastry brush to help spread your spray around the air fryer basket.
Then this creates a non-stick area for your French toast to cook on. If you don’t do this before you air fry French toast, then your air fryer will end up doing this to your eggy bread:
Secondly, because the air fryer doesn’t like to be overcrowded, it’s a good idea to only do one big slice of French toast at once in the air fryer.
But don’t worry its easy and fast to cook the French toast, so you are not waiting around too long for it.
What To Do With Leftover French Toast Batter?
I always save my leftover French toast batter in a little container and place it into the fridge for the next day. Then I can use it for another batch of French toast or for French toast sticks or cubes.
Another option is to make into sweet quiches. The batter for French toast is similar to that of quiche but with the added sweetness. You could then make little apple quiches with the leftovers.
Why Does My French Toast Come Out Eggy?
This usually happens to your air fried French toast when you have added too much of the eggy mixture or if the egg mixture has not set properly.
I recommend adding an extra 2 minutes of cook time when this happens.
How Do You Know If French Toast Is Cooked?
Your French toast is cooked when its nice and crispy. The egg is like a crispy texture added to your toast and when its crispy and lost its runny texture you know it is cooked.
How Long Is French Toast Good For?
French toast is usually good for 3 days as long as the eggs were not on their use by date when you started to prep the toast.
You can also use the air fryer to reheat your French toast making it a nice alternative on school days for the leftovers.
How Long Does It Take To Make French Toast?
French toast is rather quick to prep and cook. Whilst French toast probably feels like a hassle to prep, its no more difficult than making air fryer scrambled eggs on toast.
After all, the main prep is mixing the batter, tossing in some bread and then the air fryer works its magic.
French Toast Air Fryer Ingredients
Bread – You can use any bread that toasts well. My personal recommendation is air frying some Warburtons Farmhouse. I mean who doesn’t love Warburtons for their breakfast?
Batter – Then for the batter you will need some egg that you can beat first and then add milk to. You can make it creamier by swapping milk for cream if you prefer.
Seasoning – Then to add that beautiful flavour to your eggy bread, as I call it, lets add in vanilla essence, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Sugar – Then for finishing off your French toast I recommend sprinkling with some icing sugar. Also known in the US as confectioners sugar.
Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this French toast air fryer recipe it has just been our Cosori Air Fryer. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of air fryer recipes.
Plus, we recommend you head over to our air fryer recipes category as we have more than 500 tried and tested air fryer recipes and have been air frying for 10 years.
How To Make French Toast In Air Fryer?
- Mix. In a bowl add your eggs and beat them first, before adding in milk and seasonings.
- Coat. Place your bread into the bowl and toss on both sides in the eggy mixture.
- Prep. Then prep the air fryer by spraying with extra virgin olive oil spray and then using a pastry brush to make sure it is fully coated.
- Cook. Load the French toast into the air fryer basket and cook for 4 minutes on each side before serving.
And I am sure you can see now how easy it is to cook French toast in the air fryer and why you should be doing it too!
How Long To Cook French Toast In Air Fryer?
After lots of experimenting with cook times, I have found the ideal French toast air fryer time is JUST 8 minutes.
We recommend air frying French toast for 4 minutes on each side before serving. This same cook time would also work well with Ninja Foodi French toast too.
What Temperature To Cook French Toast?
Then for the temperature for air frying French toast we recommend 180c/360f. And there is no preheat required.
We have tried it at a higher temperature, but have found the French toast goes hard and the egg mixture then doesn’t cook quick enough.
Air Fryer French Toast Tips & Tricks
- Use a large bowl for your egg mixture. It will make putting the bread in the bowl much easier.
- Make sure you don’t skip the step of spraying and brushing the air fryer basket. Otherwise, your egg will stick to the air fryer basket and come off the toast.
- Before making air fryer French toast, I recommend doing a batch of air fryer toast first, then you can get used to the air fryer toast method.
- Make use of your leftovers by making air fryer French toast sticks or cubes. They are better than sliced French toast and you will be so pleased with the results.
- You can mix and match your flavours in your batter. Instead of nutmeg I love to add some ground ginger at Christmas.
Top Air Fryer Trick – You can also use the air fryer to reheat your leftover French toast and its just as delicious.
