Reheating Baked Potatoes

If you have followed me for a while, you will know that I love using my kitchen gadgets to reheat food.

I am obsessed with reheating meatloaf, reheating mashed potatoes, reheating McDonalds French fries and the list goes on and on.

But reheating baked potatoes is not just about the leftovers, it is also about meal prep and make ahead potatoes.

A way to quickly get dinner together on busy and stressful weeknights.

What you can do is follow our Ninja Foodi potatoes, air fryer baked potatoes or our instant pot baked potatoes recipe and meal prep in bulk.

If you know that you plan to eat 10 baked potatoes through the week, then do a batch of ten using your favourite kitchen gadget. Or if it’s just 6 them cook 6.

What us Milner’s will do is a batch of them in the instant pot and then we will use them over a few days.

After all, even with the fast instant pot, you are still talking a long 30 minutes cook time, plus time to get the instant pot to pressure.

Yet, if you make ahead your baked potatoes, you can then follow my guide for reheating baked potatoes, and it makes it so much faster.

Can You Reheat A Baked Potato?

Yes, you can.

Baked potatoes in my opinion, taste better when they have been reheated, rather than when they were originally cooked.

The beauty of reheating a potato is that they have a much quicker cook time.

I remember years ago I would always buy a baked potato from the same baked potato food truck. They were delicious and you had a zillion toppings to choose from. Well, I always loved how efficient she was and how she had made them all ahead and was keeping them warm. Plus, the fact that the double cook made the potato skin twice as crispy.

Can You Reheat A Baked Potato In The Air Fryer?

Whether you call them jacket potatoes or baked potatoes, they are ideal for reheating in the air fryer.

You can load them into your air fryer with your other leftovers and be amazed by how crispy the skin is when reheated.

Plus, you can reheat baked potatoes with butter and I will show you how to do that.

Also note, that if you want to know how to keep baked potatoes warm, then you will love that the air fryer can keep them warm for up to 45 minutes. Just leave the air fryer turned off and have them sat there until you are ready to eat.

How To Store Baked Potatoes?

I recommend that you keep your baked potatoes in the fridge after you have cooked them ready for reheating. I usually have a large dinner plate in the fridge with my spare baked potatoes, but just use whatever is best for you.

Just make sure they are chilled before you place them in the fridge otherwise you will have a condensation problem.

Best Way To Reheat A Baked Potato?

I love both reheating baked potatoes in the air fryer and the instant pot.

Though both carry a similar cook time and I feel the air fryer has the edge because you can increase the crispiness on the potato skin when you air fry them.

Whilst the instant pot is fantastic if you need to cook multiple things together.

Or another thing I do, is cook the meat in the air fryer and the potatoes and veggies in the instant pot.

Firstly, for the air fryer method:

  1. Load baked potatoes into the air fryer basket.
  2. Air fry for 8 minutes at 160c/320f.
  3. Add foil and butter.
  4. Air fry for a further 4 minutes.
  5. Serve.

It is simple as that. Then the foil becomes the butter collector and then you can have delicious crispy reheated baked potatoes with melted butter.

The second option is the instant pot method.

  1. Place a cup of water into the instant pot.
  2. Add your trivet.
  3. Load it up with baked potatoes.
  4. Add the lid and set the valve to sealing.
  5. Pressure cook for 3 minutes.
  6. Do a QPR and serve.

What I love about the instant pot way of reheating baked potatoes is that you can do much more than would fit in the air fryer. Though, if your baked potatoes are huge, do chop them in half so that they are thoroughly reheated.

Alternative. If you would rather pressure cook in the instant pot, you can do a 3 minute pressure cook with a quick pressure release. Both methods are amazing but the air fryer wins for its crispy skin.
