Bread Machine Rolls
You probably want to know what the story is behind our bread maker dinner rolls. Well, they started as an obsession a few years ago now.
We had bought our bread maker back in late 2017 and wanted a way to make yummy bread and save some money along the way.
But what I hated about making our bread maker bread, is that you have a 2 hour wait from throwing the ingredients into the bread maker to the point of having homemade bread to slice.
So, on a cold day when me and Kyle were working in the office Dominic presented me with these:
They were yummy whole wheat dinner rolls that he had made in the bread maker.
That started our thing with bread maker rolls and to this day, we make these the most out of all bread machine recipes.
Can You Make Bread Rolls In A Bread Maker?
You can’t cook bread rolls in a bread maker, but you can make the bread machine roll dough in it. You then have this amazing bread rolls dough that you can make into balls and then cook in the air fryer or the oven.
Do You Call Them Dinner Rolls?
I always find it amusing that something simple like dinner rolls, has so many different names around the world.
I grew up in Yorkshire in England and they were always known as bread buns, yet when we moved to Manchester, we had to remember to call them barm cakes.
Yet in the US and other parts of the world we see that they are referred to as bread machine dinner rolls, bread maker buns or bread machine yeast rolls.

Air Fryer Bread Rolls
These bread machine dinner rolls are actually the prequel to our air fryer bread rolls. What we do is make our bread machine bun dough first, then we use the air fryer to air fry them.
This is an amazing technique because you are using two amazing kitchen gadgets to produce super fast bread rolls.
I say super fast because it truly is.
Think of the prep and cooking times for a moment:
- Dump ingredients in the bread machine = 3 minutes
- Let the bread machine make the dough = 23 minutes
- Roll out the bread rolls = 5 minutes
- Air fry the bread rolls = 15 minutes
That brings your total time from getting the flour out of the pantry to eating your warm bread rolls to 46 minutes. Though, do note that for 38 minutes of this, you can be laid on the sofa watching Netflix.
How To Make Bread Rolls In A Bread Maker?
Cooking bread machine dinner rolls is one of the EASIEST EVER bread machine recipes.
- Load bread roll dough ingredients into the bread maker
- Roll out the dough into rolls.
- Air fry + enjoy!
There is a little bit more to bread machine rolls, but that is the basics.
Bread Machine Rolls All Purpose Flour
We live in Europe and we have a different name for our flour, but what you call all purpose flour is what we call plain flour. It is ideal for making bread machine rolls and don’t think that you have to buy expensive flour.
Though, if you do have the money and get a quality branded flour, it will make your bread rolls taste even better.
Bread Machine Dinner Rolls No Egg
There is also no egg in the recipe for dinner rolls dough. I do add an egg wash to the rolls when they are air fried, but you could replace this with extra virgin olive oil if you wanted to.
Bread Machine Dinner Rolls + Soup
If I mention to Dominic that we are having soup for dinner, his first reaction is to get a batch of dinners rolls on in the bread maker. They are then perfect for dunking into your soup for a great supper.

Can You Freeze Bread Machine Dinner Rolls?
If you want to save for later then you can.
Load them onto a sheet pan and spread them out like this:
Then place in the freezer.
Then after an hour in the freezer move to freezer bags like this:
By doing it like this it will stop the bread rolls from sticking together. Then you can grab one at a time out of the freezer. Ideal if you eat a lot of soup as you can do a big batch of them and then grab a roll at a time. You can also do the same with shop bought bread rolls.
Bread Machine Dinner Rolls
Ingredients

Bread Machine Dinner Rolls Ingredients:
- 500 g Plain Flour
- 1.5 tbsp Sugar
- 0.5 tsp Salt
- 1/3 tsp Active Dry Yeast
- 50 ml Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 50 ml Semi Skimmed Milk
- 200 ml Water
Instructions
- Place 200ml of water into the bottom of your bread maker as it will stop it sticking. Place all other ingredients into the bread maker apart from the yeast. Then sprinkle the yeast over the top of the ingredients.
- Place the lid on the bread maker and press the dough setting. It will then make the bread rolls dough and take approximately 23 minutes including proving the bread for you. When it is done, and it has beeped, place the bread rolls dough onto a clean worktop.
- Sprinkle it with flour, flour a rolling pin (so that it doesn’t stick) and roll out your bread roll dough. Make your bread dough into bread rolls.

Been waiting for a recipe for bread rolls thanks these were great and the butter meted just how we liked it and then we used the left over buns for some cheese on toast done again in the air fryer delicious.
I used these for a soup recipe i found for my soup maker on your site, tomato i think and both were very good.
Beautiful bread cooked in an air fryer with butter does it get any better than that, not for me thanks.
