TGIF Mozzarella Sticks

TGI Fridays Mozzarella Sticks

We have just moved back to England after 13 years living in Portugal. People ask us why we moved back and are surprised when we say, one of the biggest reasons was the food.

It was the lack of ingredients that we wanted to make air fryer food with, and it was the lack of choice. Of course, I will miss the cheap extra virgin olive oil and the tomatoes and courgettes being in season all year around, be that didn’t make up for what we were missing.

I remember going to the English supermarket that they have in Portugal and falling head over heels in love TGI Friday Boneless Chicken Wings and thinking that they were the best thing ever to cook from frozen in the air fryer.

I looked online to find out more about the TGI Friday range and was really annoyed to see that they sold much more. That the supermarket I was in, only had the bare minimum of TGIF appetizers.

We were already planning our move back to England at this point and I said to Dominic that as soon as we move into a house and update our air fryer, then TGI Friday’s Mozzarella Sticks will be going into the air fryer. And today is that day, so if you love mozzarella sticks and have an addiction to TGI Friday’s then this is how it is done.

Can You Cook TGI Friday’s Mozzarella Sticks In An Air Fryer?

Can You Cook TGI Friday’s Mozzarella Sticks In An Air Fryer

Yes, you can. In fact, ANY brand of mozzarella sticks or as you might call them cheese sticks, can be cooked from frozen in the air fryer.

We have previously shown you how to cook frozen mozzarella sticks in the air fryer using a cheap brand and today is all about our love for TGI Friday.

TGI Friday’s Frozen Cheese Sticks

One confusing thing is when you are being told to buy frozen cheese sticks from Iceland and then all you can see is frozen mozzarella sticks.

Well, TGI Friday’s frozen cheese sticks are the same as TGI Friday’s frozen mozzarella sticks.

Many people call them cheese sticks because they are strips of mozzarella that have been breaded.

Its up to you what you call yours, though for me they will always be mozzarella sticks!

Cosori Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks

We also recently unboxed our Cosori air fryer (see the video here) and made a cosori air fryer review for you, and naturally these TGI Friday mozzarella sticks were cooked in it.

Though this recipe will work with any air fryer, not just the Cosori. Next we plan to make them in our Philips Air Fryer.

How To Cook TGI Friday’s Mozzarella Sticks In Air Fryer?

tgif mozzarella sticks step by step
  • Load. Add your frozen mozzarella sticks or frozen cheese sticks into the air fryer basket.
  • Spray. Add a spraying of extra virgin olive oil and this will make your mozzarella sticks as crispy as the deep fat fryer but without the high fat content.
  • Cook. Air fry for 6-8 minutes depending on how powerful your air fryer is and how crispy you would like them.
  • Serve. Load into a bowl with your favourite dipping sauce (I used burger sauce) and then enjoy.

How Long To Cook TGI Friday’s Mozzarella Sticks In Air Fryer?

You will note that I mentioned 6-8 minutes above for TGI Friday frozen mozzarella sticks. This is because after 6 minutes they are cooked. BUT the mozzarella cheese in the centre is not melted at this point, but its edible.

Then if you add 2 more minutes of cook time and take it to 8 minutes then it will be 100% melted in the middle and perfect for serving.

Though note go just one minute over, and you can end up with the cheese escaping out of the breading.

Unlike other frozen foods in the air fryer, you need to be cautious of the cook time as too long and it explodes and messes your air fryer and go under and they are not done enough.

What Temp To Cook Mozzarella Sticks?

Another consideration to make is the correct temperature for your mozzarella sticks. If you want very crispy like deep fried then I recommend 200c/400f. Or for a crispy breading similar to the oven, then stick to 180c/360f.

Notes

We used two boxes of the TGI Friday Mozzarella sticks as found that 1 box of 240g wasn’t a big enough portion. You could do 1-3 boxes in the air fryer at once.
For a dipping sauce we used burger sauce. But you can use any of your favourites in this recipe.

This recipe truly held the key to everything I could want in life.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate everything God has given me so far in life and I thank him for all of it every moment of every day. However, today when I went to prepare for myself a delicious snack of TGI Friday Mozzarella Sticks, I found the included documentation utterly lacking in instruction as to how I could prepare my delightful little afternoon morsels. I found myself quickly approaching the depths of despair. To think, in this day and age, that such a noble and well-established frozen food giant as TGI Friday could fail to acknowledge the single greatest innovation in the preparation of frozen foods of this age causes my stomach to turn. I shudder at the thought of being forced to employ the arcane technology that is my conventional oven to cook a simple after lunch nibble.

Your useful guide has not only saved me tens of minutes, and likely my marriage, but provided me with the ecstasy of perfectly cooked TGI Friday Mozzarella sticks in golden-crispy perfection I honestly did not know was possible. I will add you to the top of my list of blessings.

    Thank you.

Yay thank you for the instructions! As per above the instructions on the box did not include those for the air fryer. This worked perfectly on the larger flatter style of mozzarella sticks by TGI Friday which is what I purchased. I made it in a 7 qt Gourmia with no issues at all. 10 minutes at 400 was perfect.
