Instant Pot Salmon And Broccoli. Salmon and broccoli in the Instant Pot Pressure Cooker is one of my all time favourite Instant Pot lunches. Delicious, healthy and perfect for lazy lunches.
Instant Pot Salmon & Broccoli was the first ever meal we cooked in our Instant Pot Pressure Cooker and also the day we got our Instant Pot out of its box. We decided to take a trip down memory lane and update our Instant Pot Salmon and Broccoli for you today.

Instant Pot Salmon And Broccoli
Instant Pot Salmon and Broccoli is my ultimate favourite diet lunch and a quick salmon lunch Dominic and I used to cook for each other long before we got our Instant Pot.
We used to have one of those annoying 3 tier steamers that never cleaned very well and took up too much room in the kitchen. When I first heard about the Instant Pot, it was the steaming of our food that appealed to us most.
When we started showing people how to use the Instant Pot, we started off by showing people Instant Pot Broccoli and it only felt like the natural next step to introduce people to Instant Pot Salmon & Broccoli.
Just like you, I was brand new to the idea of making delicious recipes in the Instant Pot and it is a learning curve for all of us.
Not that there is anything wrong with starting with a cheese cake or a homemade yoghurt, for a lot of us that have never used an electric pressure cooker before this can be really frightening and then if you get it wrong you are likely to leave the Instant Pot in your cupboard forever.
But by doing it one step at a time it’s fun and you are learning something new each day.
We lost over 10 stone each between us between 2013 and 2014 and our go to lunch during this time was always steamed broccoli and salmon. If you were wanting a carbs hit, we would add some delicious new potatoes to the mix, and it was heaven on a plate.
If you have missed it here is our Instant Pot Salmon & Potatoes.
Plus, if you love your fish and vegetables for lunch it is quick to make and simple. If you’re part of the crowd that usually has sandwiches for lunch, then try this next time as a fantastic healthy alternative.

Instant Pot Recipes – The Outtakes
For a bit of fun this is what we said about making salmon and broccoli in the Instant Pot, after the first time doing so back in late 2016.
Done 10 minutes after our Instant Pot Broccoli, and Dominic is back in the kitchen making some salmon and broccoli. This time I am getting a lecture telling me it better not ruin his salmon as he pays good money for it.
Next thing I look up and I have delicious salmon added to my plate of broccoli. I can’t believe it has cooked it is so fast that I didn’t manage to eat my first portion of broccoli first!
Clearly, there is no excuse not to be healthy when you can cook salmon and broccoli together in the Instant Pot in JUST 2 minutes!
Instant Pot 4 Minute Salmon
I call this my Instant Pot 4 minute salmon. That is because the salmon cooks with the broccoli in JUST 2 minutes in the Instant Pot + a further 2 minutes for it to naturally release a bit.
Ever since I first showed people how to cook Instant Pot 4 Minute Salmon, many people have come to me and said how amazing their Instant Pot Salmon is and how they couldn’t imagine cooking it any other way.
How To Instant Pot Salmon?
Instant Pot Salmon is so easy. You just need a good steamer basket to place the salmon in and you’re all set. I have written a blog post of the Best Instant Pot Steamer Baskets and it gives you an amazing choice for steaming your salmon in.
Then you place your salmon in your steamer basket and add water to the bottom of your Instant Pot. Lower your steamer basket into the Instant Pot, set the valve to sealing and cook your salmon.
Instant Pot Salmon & Vegetables
Even better you can serve your Instant Pot Salmon with your favourite Instant Pot Vegetables. Just remember to focus on quick cooking vegetables. That way you don’t need to adjust your cooking time for steaming salmon and vegetables together.
For example, carrots and other root vegetables are a bad idea as they take too long to cook. However, broccoli, cauliflower, leeks and cabbage work perfectly.
Quick Instant Pot Salmon
I love cooking Instant Pot Salmon because it is so quick and effortless. I thoroughly recommend you give Instant Pot Salmon a go and you can mix and match for your favourite seasonings.
Use our quick instant pot cooking time for your salmon and load it with your favourite salmon marinades such as:
- Maple
- Teriyaki
- Dill
- Lemon Pepper

Hi Elec,
Sorry about that the recipe appeared to disappear 🙁 We have re-added it for you 🙂
Was great but unsure whether or not to natural release or quick
Hi Virginia,
It was quick release for this recipe 🙂
Thanks
Question: My IP came with a trivet but not a steamer basket. What do you put the salmon on before you place it on the trivet? I assume for steaming just veggies I could use my own steamer basket, but not sure what to use for the salmon.
Hi Jo
Yes we use our own steamer basket that we kept from our old soup maker come steamer. For the salmon we used the trivet and placed the salmon across it but if you find that hard to get the salmon off of it then put some silver foil or some baking sheet on top of the trivet and place the salmon on there and it should fine.
Thanks.
Dominic
I see this is an older post, I used tin foil and st it on the rack
