Welcome to our 7 days of butternut squash recipes here on Recipe This. The butternut squash party started the day before yesterday with our air fryer butternut squash fries and then carried on yesterday with our air fryer butternut squash cubes.

I cook a LOT of kitchen gadget recipes with butternut squash and had a lot in my to do list to write up and thought it would be perfect, as it comes back into season, to dedicate 7 days to the wonderful winter vegetable.

I have this habit of comparing instant pot recipes to air fryer recipes. I find that they often overlap and that you can often cook similar foods in both.

Yesterday after sharing with you our air fryer butternut squash cubes, I realised that its one of those foods, that is just as perfect, if not better in the instant pot pressure cooker.

You see when we got our first instant pot back in late 2016, the first thing we did was use the instant pot to steam vegetables.

We made instant pot broccoli, instant pot carrots, instant pot cauliflower, instant pot rutabaga and many others.

We also showed people how to combat food waste by swapping fresh for frozen in our instant pot frozen vegetables guide.

We also shared with you how to cook a whole butternut squash in the instant pot. But while we were sharing with you how to chop a butternut squash in half and load it into the instant pot, we had forgotten about our other favourite way to cook instant pot butternut squash.

That is as instant pot butternut squash cubes.

They are just so versatile. You have a great idea for instant pot baby food, you have the base for a squash curry, you have a soup in the making and of course you have a yummy side dish to serve with your family dinner.

Also, if you are an instant pot beginner, it doesn’t get any better than the simplicity of instant pot butternut squash.

Instant Pot Butternut Squash Baby Food

If you have a baby, then instant pot butternut squash baby food is ideal. I remember when we had our daughter Sofia back in late 2014.

There was no instant pot in our kitchen then and we spent hours with pans pureeing apple and pear for her.

But you can steam butternut squash along with many other fruit and vegetables in a 10th of the time.

Load into the instant pot fruit and vegetables of choice, steam, and blend.

But beyond baby food instant pot butternut squash is also fantastic as a sauce base for healthy meals. Think of it as a replacement as a pasta sauce or those cream of anything recipes.

Butternut Squash In An Electric Pressure Cooker

I have always been a big veggie eater and I thank my late grandad for that and introducing me to growing and eating raw vegetables at a young age.

But my grandad and many of that generation taught me that the way you cooked vegetables was always to boil them.

I used to always boil my butternut squash and it wasn’t until I bought my first steamer and then got an instant pot, that I realised how awful boiled vegetables are.

You lose the flavour of the butternut squash and often overcook it.

However, when you steam butternut squash in instant pot, its not cooking directly in the water and instead you are keeping the delicious flavour and the butternut squash is not boiled dry.

It includes the steamer basket we used in this instant pot recipe and one that I use almost every day with my instant pot.  

How To Instant Pot Butternut Squash?

Cooking butternut squash in the instant pot is one of the EASIEST EVER pressure cooker methods.

  1. Peel and slice your butternut squash and remove the seeds from the butternut squash.
  2. Dice into medium sized cubes.
  3. Pour a cup of water into the instant pot.
  4. Add your steamer basket.
  5. Load cubed butternut squash to the steamer.
  6. Place the lid on the instant pot, set the valve to sealing and cook for 3 minutes.
  7. Use quick pressure release and serve.

How Long Do I Pressure Cook Butternut Squash?

How does 3 minutes sound for perfect instant pot butternut squash? Of course, you have the time it takes the instant pot to go to pressure but note that this is not as long as some instant pot recipes.

This is because the instant pot is not overloaded and it’s a fairly quick to pressure instant pot recipe.

Ingredients

Instant Pot Butternut Squash Recipe Ingredients:

  • 500 g Butternut Squash
  • Salt & Pepper

Instructions

  • Peel and slice your butternut squash into butternut squash cubes, making sure you get rid of all the seeds.
  • Remove any fleshy/soft bits of butternut squash.
  • Pour a cup of water into your instant pot inner pot.
  • Load your steamer basket into the instant pot.
  • Load the butternut squash cubes into the steamer basket, sprinkle with salt and pepper and cook for 3 minutes on manual.
  • When it beeps do quick pressure release.
  • Serve.

Notes

As a guide because not all butternut squashes are the same size our cubed squash weighed 500g. It might be easier for you to work off 2 small/medium whole butternut squash.
