Defrosting Sausages
We have already shown you how to defrost bacon in microwave, how to defrost chicken in microwave and today is the turn of defrosting sausages.
You are probably wondering why I am talking about defrosting sausages after all, you can air fry frozen sausages, but if you are using the slow cooker, the only way you can enjoy sausages is if they are thawed.
Such as our slow cooker sausage hotpot or slow cooker sausage casserole.
What I find myself doing sometimes is planning what to eat on a weekend last minute. I can’t decide what I want to eat for a Sunday dinner and often will grab something from the freezer last minute.
The frozen sausages are often the best find because I can cook them in the air fryer from frozen, or defrost them in the microwave, or defrost and then load into the slow cooker.
Today, I wanted to show you how easy it is defrosting sausages in the microwave for your quick last minute go to.
Can You Defrost Sausages In The Microwave?
Yes, you can defrost sausages in the microwave and its one of the great reasons for having a microwave.
I have a favourite butchers and will buy their red onion sausages in bulk when I visit the butchers. It’s a 1 hour round trip from where we live so they will pack them into packs of 12 for me and then I can freeze them and then use them as I need them.
They often end up in our air fryer frittata, but before making the frittata I will defrost them first using the microwave.
Can You Cook Richmond Sausages From Frozen?
Yes, you can if you are NOT using the slow cooker. The slow cooker is dangerous for cooking meat from frozen unless it is a stock. But you can cook frozen Richmond sausages in the air fryer or the instant pot.
Can You Cook Pork Sausages From Frozen?
Yes, you can. The rules are the same regardless of what type of sausages they are. You can cook any sausages from frozen including pork sausages as long as you are not putting frozen sausages in the slow cooker.
I have even cooked pork sausages from frozen in the oven long before I fell in love with kitchen gadgets.
How Long Do Sausages Take To Defrost?
Then time to defrost sausages will vary depending on the method used. Most of the time in the Milner house we will leave them out overnight and then the next morning they are defrosted and ready for the slow cooker.
However, if you are looking at defrosting sausages FAST nothing beats the speed of the microwave.
I have found that defrosting sausages in the microwave can be as quick as 16 minutes if done correctly and without the edges of the sausages browning.
How Long Can You Leave Defrosted Sausages In The Fridge?
The time you can leave defrosted sausages in the fridge depends on how they entered the freezer. You see if you got them on yellow sticker (I do this a LOT) then they would have only had 1 day shelf life when they entered the freezer. So, this same rule applies when they are thawed.
But let’s say they had three days left on the date at freezing, then you have three days to cook the sausages.
Best way and to avoid confusion is to defrost the sausages and cook them the same day.

Defrost Sausages Microwave Ingredients
Sausages – We used a pack of 12 frozen sausages from the butchers. They are thick pork sausages, but any will do.
Water – Because we are using our microwave steamer basket for an even defrost of the sausages, we need a little water into the steamer basket.
Steamer – Then our favourite steamer basket. We picked it up from Lakeland but this one will work too. You just add a little water to it and your sausages and then microwave your sausages to fully defrost them.
Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this defrost sausages microwave recipe it has just been our Panasonic Microwave Oven. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of microwave recipes.

We always have a bag of Richmond frozen sausages in the freezer. Long before airfryers my partner insisted that he only likes sausages fried but I got fed up with the spitting and splattering so I started putting them on a piece of kitchen paper with another over the top and microwaving them for about 2 minutes which defrosted them nicely and also started the cooking process slightly. Then just transferred them to the frying pan to get the crisp brown skins that he likes so much.
I have to admit that I’m still doing them this way as I haven’t experimented with them in the airfryer. Also I can do the chips at the same time in the arfryer so it makes a good quick meal with some microwaved corn on the cob or baked beans. I know “frying pan” is almost a dirty word these days but some people just won’t have the healthier option.
Great instructions, the packets from the butchers do not have any directions on them for defrosting as i bet like me a lot of people buy them and put them in the freezer so to get just a few out at once.
