Turkey Chilli In Instant Pot

Today will be mine and Dominic’s 19th wedding anniversary and we will have spent 22 years together, by each other’s side.

Behind the scenes at Recipe This, we are a double act and love working together whilst raising our kids.

I was recently asked what my cooking style was through our marriage and what kinds of food I cook the most for Dominic.

My immediate response was leftovers.

Cooking a nice meal and then transforming the leftovers into something else that is equally special.

For example, our slow cooker Monday pie from leftover roast dinner and then into a Tuesday carbonara.

Or even better to have what I call a fridge clear out. Which I recommend everyone does to clear out their fridge, avoid food waste and make something yummy out of that vegetable supply you forgot about.

This is what today’s leftover turkey chilli is all about. Grabbing what needs using up and making it in a healthy turkey chilli that is kid friendly and perfect for dinner.

Then of course, you always end up making too much instant pot turkey chilli, so you are then covered for the next day and the next day.

Healthy Turkey Chilli Instant Pot

What I love most about the instant pot, is its ability to cook a bunch of ingredients that you have just loaded up.

Even though it is nice to, you don’t always have to sauté an onion first, or add white wine or cheese.

In our healthy instant pot chilli we will be swapping those add ins for a healthy oil free version that is perfect for weight watchers or slimming world.

On slimming world this chilli is totally syn free and then on weight watchers if you have the personal plan with beans then it is zero point.

Plus, because there are no extra ingredients, you literally dump everything in the instant pot and then let it work its magic.

Turkey Chilli For Weight Loss

Last year I followed this amazing 3 day WW inspired diet from my good friend Sara for a quick weight loss boost. You can read all about it here.

She taught me more about the WW system than I had ever learnt before and it even inspired me to join WW.

It included a pot of turkey chilli, and I was like I MUST MAKE THIS IN THE INSTANT POT. And that is what today’s recipe is about. Up until then I had never had a turkey chilli before and only ever made them with beef.

Plus, I feel a dump in the instant pot with what veggies that you have in that are non-starchy is an easy method.

If you want quick weight loss, then check it out here or just make this turkey chilli instant pot recipe 2-3 times a week and it will make a big difference.

Instant Pot Turkey Chilli Recipe Ingredients

Instant Pot Turkey Chilli Recipe Ingredients

Mince – You can use any mince, though I prefer to make a chilli with turkey mince. You could also use chicken, beef, pork, veal, or a combo.

Tomatoes – I am using tinned tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, and salsa. You can do the same or use a mixture of the three. Salsa works very well for giving you the heat in your turkey chilli but also gives you extra liquid to help it go to pressure.

Beans – Of course a chilli is not the same without the beans. You can load up the instant pot with any of your favourite beans. Though I love to use black beans, kidney beans, black eyed beans, haricot beans, or a mix of the four.

Veggies – We are mixing it up with lots of leftover veggies to avoid food waste and clear out the fridge. We have leftover courgettes, peppers, cherry tomatoes, onion, pumpkin, and carrots.

Seasonings – Then for your turkey chilli seasoning, I recommend salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, coriander and basil.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this chilli turkey recipe it has just been our Instant Pot. We have this one and its my favourite and great for a quick pasta bake.

Plus, we recommend you head over to our instant pot recipes category as we have many electric pressure cooker recipes and have been using instant pots for 5 years.

How To Make Instant Pot Turkey Chilli?

instant pot turkey chilli step by step
  • Prep. Start by peeling, slicing, and washing any veggies that you are using in your turkey chilli. If your veggies are particularly old then I recommend chopping any bad bits off.
  • Load. Load everything but the turkey into the instant pot and stir well.
  • Top. Add your minced turkey over your chilli ingredients and then place the lid on the instant pot and set the valve to sealing.
  • Cook. Pressure cook, stir your chilli and then serve.

And I am sure you can see now how easy it is to pressure cook turkey chilli and why it has become one of my favourite cheap dinners.

Can I Freeze Chilli?

Yes, you can freeze your chilli.

I recommend once cooked and once it has cooled, that you transfer your chilli into freezer containers.

Then label them up and freeze them.

If you want to eat your turkey chilli in the next 2-3 days instead load the freezer container into the fridge.

Turkey Chilli Tips & Tricks

  • Make sure you have enough liquid to take it to pressure. I recommend adding in a little extra water or veggie stock and it will make a big difference.
  • To add extra flavour, I recommend adding some salsa. For even more flavour you could replace all tinned tomatoes with salsa.
  • After cooking as you stir it the turkey chilli thickens up perfectly.

Interesting Instant Pot Trick – Pressure cook your turkey chilli for the usual 6 minutes and then do a 2 minute natural pressure release. This will then help thicken your turkey chilli and improve the flavour.

Notes

Quantities. This turkey chilli will easily feed 6 people and if you are serving it with extras, then there are plenty of leftovers.
Swaps. Our turkey chilli is all about using vegetables that we already have in. You can mix and match your vegetables just avoid ones that go mushy too quickly such as broccoli or cauliflower.

I love a good chilli. I used chicken mince with mine nearly the same and it tasted lovely. I will try and source some turkey mince but it can be quite hard to get in my experience, unless i do it myself with a turkey breast. Thank you for the recipe.
