Oil Free Air Fryer French Fries. 150 Calorie Air Fryer French Fries. Totally oil free and so easy to make in your air fryer at home.
Perfect for if you want to lose weight and don’t want to give up on your favourite French Fries.
From as young as I can remember my mum was on a diet. My dad was on one too (well when my mum was looking).
I saw them follow soup diets, Atkins diet, Slimming World and Weight Watchers. Add to this gym memberships too.
But what I hated was not the constant diets or no chocolate in the house (well unless you ate the vile cooking chocolate) but the obsession with really horrible diet food.
The lentils used in really eggy casseroles and of course the weird way to eat healthy French Fries.
You would have to soak them, partially boil them, then oven cook them and by the end of it you had spent an hour just to make some French Fries.
It just didn’t seem worth the effort!
When you had a chip shop at the end of your street and could pay just 55p for a portion (YES I am back on 90s prices here) instead of this annoying way of making them, then you know which choice I would make!
When you cook them in the air fryer and make oil free air fryer French Fries, you lose all this time that otherwise went with prepping them and they are a lot crispier than what they used to be when you baked them in the oven.
Oil Free Air Fryer French Fries
Oil Free Air Fryer French Fries has been a long time coming here on RecipeThis.com. This is because I like to get my air fryer recipes spot on before I share them with others.
With French Fries it is so hard to get them right without oil, but we have finally cracked it, and this is exactly how we make oil free Air Fryer French Fries.
#1 Peel & Chip
Start by choosing the potatoes that you plan to use. We used a couple of large ones that once chipped worked out at 782g once the skin was removed.
We then used a chipper to chip them into potatoes ready for cooking oil free air fryer French fries with.
#2 Soak Your Potatoes
Once you have sliced them. You need to place them in a bowl and soak them. This way it helps remove the starch and stops your potatoes from being dry when you cook your Air Fryer French Fries.
#3 Rinse & Cook
After a good soaking, place your potatoes in a large sieve and rinse them under cold water. Continue to do this for a couple of minutes and then drain them well. DON’T pat dry your potatoes as it will lose too much of the moisture.
Season your potatoes. Then place your chipped potatoes into the air fryer and make your air fryer French Fries. Shake half way through to help them cook better.
I often get asked about why you would soak your French Fries before cooking? Well the truth is you only ever need to do this when you are cooking French Fries in the air fryer WITHOUT oil.
The rest of the time the oil takes away from the soaking process. This is because removing the starch from the potatoes makes it perfect for oil free cooking.
Another important question is how long do you cook air fryer French fries for? Well this depends on the amount of potatoes that you are cooking and the thickness of the French Fries.
The recipe below is a good example for your averaged sized French Fries in the Air Fryer.
The most important question I get, is it safe to cook fries in the air fryer WITHOUT patting dry the potatoes?
Well I have done it several times like this and it does add a little bit of steam to the room, just like when you cook chicken in the air fryer, but it has never stopped the air fryer from working or caused me any harm.
