Air Fryer Cream Cheese Bagels

The first time I had a cream cheese bagel I was in a park in Boston and it was the summer of 2012. We were on the last couple of days of a 5-week holiday in the United States and I was tired and hungry.

I should tell you now that long holidays can be very tiring.

It sounds fantastic to say that you went on a 5-week dream holiday, but in reality, it can be exhausting at times.

We did a trip to Boston on our way there and on our way back. It was the airport we chose as it was cheaper, and it made a good base. In between this we had 21 nights in Orlando and visited family in Vermont too.

On one of the days, we headed to a park in Boston and over tired from too many rides at Universal Studios and Disney World, we sat in the park while our son played in the lake.

He was 10 at the time and loved Boston.

At the café at the park I had a cream cheese bagel. My first one EVER, while the boys enjoyed their American favourite sandwich of pulled pork.

From that moment on I loved Bagels and fell in love with them. Especially, loaded up with my favourite cream cheese!

But they are unpopular here in Portugal, so when I see them, I buy them. Lidl had a special Americana theme running a couple of weeks ago and before I knew it, I had toasted my bagels in the air fryer and loaded them up with cream cheese and avocado.

Can I Toast A Bagel In An Air Fryer?

Yes you can. I find that a bagel is much better in an air fryer compared to a regular toaster.

When you toast a bagel in an air fryer you pick and choose the temperature. You could go with a higher temperature to have a better browning or crunch on your bagel.

Plus, unlike a toaster it is sat up and you can load it with butter as it toasts.

Do You Have To Toast Bagels?

I know many of you will be wondering “Do you have to toast bagels?”

After all, not everyone has bagels toasted right?

That is TRUE you don’t have to toast bagels. Just like you could eat a slice of bread with some butter on and not toast it. Its all about personal choice and how you prefer it.

But often when you get out a bagel, you might toast your bagel if its cold in the fridge, compared to eating a freshly just cooked bagel.

What Can You Put In Bagels?

Do tell me in the comments below what your favourite bagel toppings are. Mine is a big layer of Philadelphia cream cheese, but yours might be different!

I also love the following bagel toppings:

  • Strawberry Jam
  • Lemon Curd
  • Butter
  • Cream Cheese + Sliced Avocado

How To Toast A Bagel In Air Fryer?

A toasted bagel in Air fryer goes as follows:

  1. Slice frozen bagel in half
  2. Load frozen bagels in the air fryer basket
  3. Air fry and load with toppings.

There is a little more to it than that, but those are the simple basics!

How Long To Air Fry Bagels?

The air fryer bagels cook time is JUST 5 minutes cooked from frozen. You can also cook your bagels for 3 minutes, add butter, then cook for a further 2 minutes.

This will give you a wonderful, melted butter bagel. You can also do the same with the cream cheese if you prefer it warm.

The air fryer bagel temp is recommended to be 180c/360f. This stops the bagel from going to brown and makes it like a regular toasted bagel. If you like less of a crunch, I recommend reducing to 160c/320f.

Reheat Frozen Bagel

I love to make frozen bagels with cream cheese. Or as us Brits call it “soft cheese”. There is nothing better that a warm bagel that you have reheated from frozen loaded with Philadelphia cream cheese.

If you have not done so already, I recommend you air fry a frozen bagel.

You can slice the bagel in half while the bagel is frozen, which is much easier its less likely the knife will slip.

Then load the frozen bagel into the air fryer and let it do its magic. Then you have one of these ready to eat:

Thanks Samantha. I love your breakfasts that you show us how to cook in the air fryer. This is next to your scrambled eggs on toast as my joint favourite.
