Chunky Vegetable Soup In Soup Maker
I love my soup maker and have made you a lot of different soup maker recipes over the years. BUT they are nearly all smooth soups and not chunky, hearty ones like the ones that would be a starter served on a restaurant menu.
I often wonder why not? And I think its just easier to make a smooth soup using your soup machine.
After a few requests for chunky veg soup in soup maker, here is an updated one that we have re-do for you from 2017. It is loaded with veg, is easy to make and you can choose how chunky you want your soup.

What Is The Chunky Setting On A Soup Maker?
When you look close at your soup maker, you will have a chunky soup setting. On the cheaper soup makers you may just have chunky, smooth and blend. Whilst with soup makers like our Ninja, you will have lots of buttons.
What the chunky soup setting does is it mixes but it doesn’t blend as it makes your soup. That way if you prefer a chunky soup, you can just press “chunky”.
Or if you live in the USA we have seen the buttons there for the soup maker and what we have as a chunky setting they have as “hearty”.
Why We Use The Chunky Soup Maker Setting Every Time!
So most of our soup maker recipes are for smooth soups on Recipe This so why do we always choose to use the chunky setting. Well, the reason is simple, when making soup there is always the concern that the soup will end up too thick or too watery. By blending at the end, rather than as you go, you can then reduce the liquid or add liquid at the end, and it will combat this problem.
How Do I Make Soup Thicker In A Soup Maker?
If the soup is really thin in the soup maker and you have already blended it, the easiest way, is to put it on again with extra ingredients. Such as dicing a handful of potatoes, some carrots, or another root vegetable. Then put it on the smooth soup setting and it will blend the new ingredients into the soup as it cooks. You will then have a thick soup.
But for the best soup maker soups, we recommend instead that you don’t blend your soup, and only add a small amount of liquid. That way you can add more liquid at the end if too thick, to avoid extra cooking.

Chunky Soup In Soup Maker Ingredients
Veggies – We had a mix of veggies in our chunky soup and its easy to mix and match with seasonal favourites along with what you like or dislike. For example, whilst I love celery the kids hate it. In this soup maker chunky vegetable soup we added potatoes, onion, celery, carrots, and cabbage.
Texture – We also recommend some other beans or pulses that can then give your soup texture, especially if you are making a chunky soup. We used frozen peas, but you can use sweetcorn, chickpeas, beans etc.
Liquid – You then need to add some liquid for your soup. You can opt for traditional stock, the homemade stock you make yourself such as our instant pot vegetable stock, or canned tomatoes, jars of pasta sauces also work well. In this recipe we have used canned tomatoes.
Seasonings – For seasoning your chunky soup we have used salt, pepper, and dried parsley. Then also added both garlic and tomato puree.
