Welcome to my virtually Syn Free Slimming World Chips. If you want to learn how to make Slimming World Chips without having to pre-boil your potatoes, mess about with fry light or wait an age for them to cook then you have come to the right place.
I was a Slimming World member as a teenager back in the 1990’s. I was about 13 at the time and was on Slimming World because I hated exercise, had too many McDonalds and needed to lose about 25 pounds. Unlike todays generation where there is a lot of childhood obesity I was still in the normal weight range. But to look at me you probably thought that I was carrying too much puppy fat and seriously shouldn’t wear crop tops.
So during one summer break I lost all the weight that I wanted to + some extra. I went from being around 11st7 down to 8st7 and went from looking chubby to looking skinny. I had taken up swimming again, cycled to school and consumed a lot less calories thanks to Slimming World style meals.
Three stone off in 6 weeks….not bad at all.
I then stayed at that weight until I had my first child five years later and was very much a Slimming World target member.
On the night that I would get weighed I would go to the chippy as my treat for the week. I would have chips, scraps and gravy and they never counted. They were my naughty fix and it felt so good having them.
After all the Slimming World Syn Free chips were so disgusting you couldn’t think of ever eating them again. It was like a lot of the Slimming World Recipes back then. It was at a time before social media, before we all shared recipes and before any of us really had any imagination.
Slimming World meals for kids usually involved a can of pasta with a slice of cheese and some chopped up cucumber and tomato and now the thought makes me feel sick.
But those Slimming World chips was the weirdest thing. You would get some chopped potatoes, soak them in water, pre-boil them, place them in the oven with some of that horrible frying spray and then you would get really weird baked chips that were incredibly dry.
You simply cook them with a very small amount of oil and then serve them up and you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between those and these delicious chips.
Even better cook them with bacon and cheese and you have a Slimming World dream. They are also virtually Syn free. And if you follow the old Slimming World books (well before extra easy) you can use the cheese and the oil as healthy extras. Talk about a chippy dream come true!

Preheat your Airfryer to 180c.
Peel and dice your potatoes. Place them in the Airfryer and sprinkle a teaspoon of olive oil over them. Cook for 10 minutes at 180c.
Remove the fat from your bacon and cut into bacon bits.
When the Airfryer has finished, shake the chips and add the bacon. Cook for a further 5 minutes.
Give them a shake, add another teaspoon of olive oil, adjust the temperature to 200c and cook for a further 2 minutes.
Sprinkle with salt, pepper and grated cheese.
Remember portion control. No more than 1 medium potato for each person you are serving. We weighed out our chopped chips and one medium potato = 150g.
We used 4 rashers of back bacon. We removed the fat bits and it worked out at a total weight of 100g. So if you think bacon = 1/3 of the amount of potatoes.
