Slimming World Chips
I can picture it in my head like it was yesterday. It was the night I first joined Slimming World at the age of 12. It was 1994 and my mum took me with her to her diet group.
They had boards up like a board meeting with homemade recipes written on them, as that was the way things was done before the internet.
Me and my chips obsession wanted to try the slimming world chips right after signing up.
Sat at the kitchen table, I watched my mum blanch the potatoes first before finishing them in the oven. It was a labour of love that took forever, and I had fairly dry chips that was just not as good as the chippy that was less than 20 steps away from the front door.
But they tasted okay and was better than no chips at all.
Fast forward 17 years and I am reading the Slimming World magazine and I see this ad for this amazing air fryer that I can do chips and so much more in.
I was sold on the spot and we had one in our kitchen within a few days. I have since been obsessed with air frying and how little oil is required.
I have also shown people how to do the naughty food in the air fryer too and what has been very popular is air fryer frozen French fries.
Then would you believe it, I walked into the Portuguese equivalent of Iceland and found bags and bags of frozen slimming world chips. I had never tried them before (first time they have been in Portugal) and mass bought so that I could experiment with them for you in the air fryer.
Today, is the result of weeks and weeks of testing and having fun eating slimming world frozen chips. If you too wanted to cook frozen chips in the air fryer, this this is for you.
Iceland Slimming World Chips
When I heard about Iceland stocking Slimming World Chips I was super excited in trying them and seeing how they would compare to the 90’s homemade syn free version.
The idea is that they are grilled instead of fried before being frozen, making them half the calories of many other brands of frozen French fries. Think about that the next time you opt for our air fryer oven chips!
They are also skin on, making them easier to keep their moisture and not go dry.
As someone that always adds just a little bit of extra virgin olive oil, I was curious about the challenge I had set myself.
Slimming World Chips In Air Fryer
I experimented with a few different ways to cook slimming world chips in the air fryer and decided on two versions that I loved the most:
A little extra virgin olive oil – This makes such a difference to the slimming world chips. But you don’t need a lot and when you add them, its better than chips from the chippy. By a little oil I am talking adding 1 teaspoon between 4 servings. The same as half a syn on slimming world. Just imagine if you can have chip shop chips for half a syn!
Salt & vinegar – The best option if you want syn free chips in the air fryer. What you do is toss your chips in salt and vinegar and the vinegar stops the chips from going dry. It also helps with getting your chips crispy.
How Many Slimming World Chips Can I Have?
How about as many or as few slimming world chips as you want. If you follow our salt and vinegar technique, then these slimming world chips will remain a free food and you can have them as much or as little as you want.
I recommend not having them too much though because if you are like me, your body sees a potato and you don’t lose weight.
Think of them in moderation with your other healthy slimming world food. Rather than eating chips at every mealtime!
How To Make Slimming World Chips?
If you are wondering how to cook slimming world chips in the air fryer then its easy:
- Load frozen chips into the air fryer.
- Air fry.
- Toss chips in salt and vinegar.
- Air fry + serve.
Or if you don’t want them syn free and want them like the British chippy then swap the tossing in salt and vinegar for extra virgin olive oil.
The Milner’s Verdict On Slimming World Frozen Chips
I was really excited to try slimming world frozen chips in the air fryer. I was thinking that because the chips had already been cooked on the grill, that they would be easy to keep moist in the air fryer.
But part of me was worried that they would be dry.
Well, it turned out that the slimming world frozen chips tasted AMAZING:
- They were not dry
- They were crispy
- They were effortless
Best of all, was how easy it was to turn them from regular oven chips to crispy chips.
Though the crispy coating is down to the air fryer. That is because you can cook air fryer chips at too different temperatures ensuring they are cooked first and then crisped up.
Plus, no worrying that you have forgotten about your chips in the oven!
