Reheating Fried Rice

Yesterday we showed you how to reheat pizza in the microwave and today, we are heading to the Chinese takeaway and reheating fried rice.

I am not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but we have a Chinese takeaway, a corner shop and a pizza takeaway all within a 3 minute walk of our front door.

I like having quick access, but OMG it is not good for temptation when you are on Weight Watchers!

The hubby would rather have a big juicy burger, Kyle is more about a pizza, and I am team Chinese.

We can then send Kyle out and he will go to both places and we will order them on the app.

But my biggest complaint is that we always have way too much leftover. The calzone pizza Kyle gets is huge and has lots left, then there is the fried rice.

I mean seriously???? I just want to order a bit of rice for me, and I have enough fried rice to feed four people!!!

That is when reheating fried rice is a great way for me to combat food waste and get a yummy bowl of Chinese rice the next day.

Today I wanted to share with you all about reheating cooked rice in the microwave. Regardless of it being leftover Chinese rice, boiled rice, brown rice etc.

Can You Reheat Rice From The Chinese?

Yes, you can. You can reheat rice from the Chinese, or any other rice for that matter. If you had a curry yesterday and have spare boiled rice or pilau rice, then that can be reheated too.

Can I Reheat Rice In A Microwave?

Yes, you can reheat rice in a microwave and its DELICIOUS. It’s a great way to use up your leftovers and make another meal from them.

You can reheat a small portion of white rice in the microwave and then serve it with our air fryer breaded pork chops or our air fryer chicken breast.

Or you could pair together on a plate your leftover chicken curry with the rice and cook them together in the microwave.

Best Way To Reheat Fried Rice?

I have regularly reheated fried rice in both the microwave and the air fryer (check out air fryer fried rice here) and have found that they are both great ways to reheat rice.

The air fryer excels in giving your fried rice that crispy Chinese texture, whilst the microwave version of reheating fried rice, will do it much quicker.

Its personal choice which kitchen gadget you use to reheat your rice.

Best Way To Reheat Rice In Microwave?

The best way to reheat rice in the microwave is in either a serving dish or a serving plate. You want to avoid loading your rice into a steamer basket because you will end up cooking the rice again rather than just reheating.

How Long Does Cooked Rice Last In The Fridge?

Though before you reheat your rice in the microwave, you need to be thinking about its storage, after you originally ate it and keeping yourself safe from food poisoning.

I recommend that you keep the rice in its takeout container and then load into the fridge once cool.

Then make sure you reheat your rice within 2 days of purchase.

You see, whilst many will tell you, that you have 3 days, there is something that you might not have considered.

And that is, that the Chinese might not have just cooked it and it could already be a day old.

Reheating Rice Essentials

Reheating Rice Essentials

Rice – I recommend keeping your leftover rice in an airtight container (like the one ours came in from the Chinese) and then storing it in the fridge. Then when ready for reheating cooked rice in microwave, that you load it onto a cooking dish or plate.

Butter – I have found that butter is the secret ingredient to stop the rice from drying out as you microwave it. Just a little goes a long way and then it melts into the rice and makes it taste even better.

Optional – Alternative to butter is to transform plain rice into egg fried rice. Like we do in our air fryer egg fried rice. You can add in extra frozen peas, soy sauce and your favourite dried Chinese seasoning.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this how to reheat rice in microwave guide it has just been our Panasonic Microwave Oven. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of microwave recipes.

  • Load. Place your leftover rice into a serving dish or a serving plate and add a few little chunks of butter or margarine.
  • Microwave. Then microwave your rice for 2 minutes and then serve piping hot.

And I am sure you can see now how easy it is to warm up rice in the microwave.

How To Microwave Rice Without Drying It Out?

The secret to prevent rice from being dried out in the microwave is the butter. The butter keeps the rice nice and wet as it cooks and then absorbs into the rice.

Then you can stir the rice with a fork and all the butter will mix in as you stir.

Secondly, the other reason rice often dries out is because you have reheated the rice for too long and its gone dry.

Keep an eye on it and make sure that it is cooked right for your wattage.

How Long To Reheat Rice In Microwave?

The microwave rice reheat time can vary depending on your microwave wattage. We have an 800w Panasonic microwave and find that 2 minutes is the ideal time.

After all, it is essential that your rice is piping hot.

However, if you have a higher wattage microwave it might be quicker. I recommend you start with 90 seconds and then check on your rice and see how much longer it needs.
